Chapter 132 Calling the Police, Capturing Alfred

In the elevator, no one spoke, each lost in their own thoughts. When they arrived on the floor, the three of them stepped out, and Gabriel followed suit.

Upon reaching Colin's room, Colin instructed Caroline and Sophia to go in first. As he turned around, he cast a casual, distant smile at Gabriel while adjusting his glasses.

"Mr. Lancaster, this is where we part ways."

Gabriel remained unfazed and not at all annoyed by Colin's brush-off. He gestured towards Sophia, who had already gone inside.

"I am her child's father, and we have the same purpose for coming here."

Colin, unimpressed by Gabriel due to Tiffany, retorted, "What does that have to do with me?"

Originally, Colin thought it wouldn't be bad to get acquainted with the wealthiest man in Z country. Little did he know that the billionaire would come with a foolish woman, making him question whether the title was empty.

"I know more about our child's life than she does," Gabriel calmly noticed Colin's dislike towards him because of Tiffany. He added, "Furthermore, I sincerely apologize for Tiffany's behavior. I truly mean it. Colin, I really hope you can see my son."

Observing Gabriel's different attitude towards Tiffany, Colin furrowed his brow, hesitating.

Sophia approached and said, "Mr. Colin, let him come in. He indeed knows more about Sam's condition."

What Sophia knew was only what she had heard from Harrison, so she was aware that Gabriel had a deeper understanding. For her son's sake, she could tolerate Gabriel being present.

Considering Sophia's request, Colin stepped aside.

Colin resided in the hotel's VIP suite. The four of them sat down in the living room. After a while, a service staff member knocked on the door. Colin went to open it, returning with a glass of water in his hand, which he handed to Sophia.

"This is honey water. It can help alleviate discomfort."

Sophia was taken aback momentarily. She had consumed some alcohol and indeed felt a bit uncomfortable in her stomach. For Colin to be so attentive and notice this, it unexpectedly touched her.

She accepted the glass, feeling the warmth transfer from Colin's cold hands to her whole body. She took a gentle sip, feeling the warmth enter her heart directly.

Caroline cast a subtle gaze at Sophia, then glanced at Colin. Could it be that Colin has fallen for Sophia at first sight?

Ever since they met yesterday, Colin's gaze hadn't strayed much from Sophia. Moreover, she hadn't even noticed her own discomfort, but Colin had.

Gabriel, by their side, subtly clenched his fingers, furrowing his brow with an indescribable mix of emotions racing through his mind.

He didn't like this feeling at all.

He disliked the presence of so many men around Sophia.

But he had no right to intervene. He and Sophia were just former partners, let alone...

Why does he care so much about Sophia when he doesn't even like her? It must be an illusion.

Colin flicked through the medical records.

"The so-called autism is a disease that causes developmental disorders of the mind and body due to abnormal brain function. There are two factors that cause autism. The first is genetic factors, which can be mostly ruled out in Sam's case. The second is other factors, which may include influences during birth. However, based on my judgment, Sam's condition is caused by harmful external environment."

"So, think carefully, did he experience any triggers before developing autism?"

Triggers?

Gabriel said in a deep voice, "No, he suddenly had high fever for three days. After the fever subsided, he woke up and refused to speak."

He asked Sam and everyone else, but no one mentioned anything about Sam's experiences.

Sophia had lost five years of her life, and she had no say in these matters. It was heartbreaking for her.

"We started intervention when he was two years old, and now it's almost completely curable. I think the doctor you found is a quack, absolutely outrageous. He even prescribed medication. I seriously doubt how someone like that could become a doctor after passing multiple exams."

Colin asked a few more questions and was almost infuriated.

The medical record described Sam's recent symptoms and the treatment plan with medication, which Colin strongly disagreed with. He believed that Sam's symptoms didn't require medication and that early intervention by parents was the best treatment.

Gabriel's eyebrows wrinkled, and his heart tightened along with it.

"Do you have a problem?"

"It's a big problem." Colin threw the bag of medicine that Caroline gave him, reminding Gabriel and Sophia, "You should call the police immediately and have this quack arrested."

Sophia's heart skipped a beat, and her face turned pale.

"Why, why?" She trembled, her whole body cold. An idea flashed in her mind.

Is what Colin said what she was thinking too?

"Are you saying there's something wrong with this medicine?" Caroline asked the question Sophia wanted to ask the most.

"Are you sure this medicine you gave me is the medicine Sam took?" Colin replied with a question.

Caroline nodded solemnly. Ethan had told her that Sam secretly hid it and handed it to him, so it couldn't be fake.

Gabriel also saw the name of the medication written on the transparent bag. There was no room for misunderstanding. The medication name was completely different from what Alfred prescribed for Sam.

The pills have been switched!

Gabriel temporarily couldn't figure out how this bag of medicine ended up like this. He rose grimly, about to make a phone call when his phone rang.

He didn't have the mood to answer Tiffany's call now, so he hung up. As he was about to dial Alex's number, Tiffany called again. Gabriel hung up once more, and finally managed to connect with Alex's call.

"Call the police, arrest Alfred!"

In five words, he spoke calmly yet with great determination. Alex's heart skipped a beat as he listened.

There was a sudden jolt in her spirit.

"Yes!"

With red eyes, Sophia said, "I clearly saw that the medicine Tiffany brought that day was not this one, and I have also taken that medicine, experiencing the same side effects as me."

She had taken it too?

Colin's gaze flickered with a hint of pity as he gently explained, "These two medicines are from the same pharmaceutical company overseas. The shape of the pills is the same, but there is a slight difference in the first letter carved in a foreign language on the pills. People who don't understand that particular language wouldn't be able to recognize it. That's also the reason why others can successfully replace the medicine without being easily discovered."

Caroline asked, "What would be the consequences if he continues taking it?"

"It would affect the functions of his heart, lungs, kidneys, and so on. That's why as doctors, we generally don't recommend patients to take this medicine, unless it's an extremely severe case, and even then, we only allow a small amount for a month to provide relief."

Sophia's hand, holding the cup, was shaking violently.

Colin continued, "Don't worry, Sam stopped the medicine in time. And from the results of his thorough examination, the impact is not too severe. He's still young, so his body can gradually recover through proper care, and his autism can be treated with intervention as well."

Caroline held Sophia's hand and noticed that it was as cold as if it had just been taken out of the freezer. She rubbed it, trying to warm her up.

Meanwhile, after Gabriel hung up the phone, Tiffany called again, and this time, he answered.

Tiffany's panicked voice came through.
