Chapter 494 Reminder
Clayton overheard everyone gossiping about Caroline's boyfriend behind her back. He was livid. Caroline openly flaunting her relationship with Nicholas felt like a betrayal to Daisy.
Clayton wanted to confront Caroline but remembered Daniel's warning before he left. So, he just glared at her from a distance, seething.
Caroline was clueless about why Clayton was acting up again. Every time he saw her, he had that angry, embarrassed look. She couldn't care less.
Since everyone found out she had a boyfriend, Caroline faced less trouble. Even the girls who liked Kieran were nicer to her.
Meanwhile, after redoing the bone marrow match, Blake looked at the data and asked, "Are you two father and daughter?"
Daniel replied, "Yes."
Blake sighed, "I'm sorry, but the data shows you're not a match. You can't donate bone marrow to your daughter."
Daniel had hoped redoing the match would work, but this result crushed him.
Blake added, "You need to find a match soon. Only a transplant can save her. Medications will eventually stop working."
Daniel nodded. "We'll do it ASAP."
Outside, the Declan couple waited anxiously.
"Mr. Wolf, how did it go?" Declan asked.
Daniel shook his head, and their faces fell.
"Mr. Wolf, Diana's illness can't wait."
"I know," Daniel said, frowning.
Back in the ward, he saw Linda, who looked worn out from worry. His heart ached seeing her and Diana, who had been so hard to find.
Blake double-checked the data and made a video call to Nicholas, who was on his way back to Heights Hill Villa.
"Nicholas, is this girl's father really Daniel?"
Nicholas was puzzled. "Yes, she was missing for over twenty years and was just found."
Blake said, "Her background is bizarre, but... there's no genetic match between them. Could there be a mistake?"
Nicholas' eyes narrowed. 'Did David mess up? Did he skip the paternity test?'
"I didn't tell Daniel yet. Since you recommended them, I'm telling you. You decide if you want to investigate."
"Okay," Nicholas said. He didn't want to meddle in the Wolf family's business, but Daniel was different. He decided to warn him to prevent any deception.
Back home, Nicholas called Daniel. Daniel was surprised; it was late, and Nicholas was still up.
"You just finished work?" Daniel admired Nicholas' dedication.
"No, Mr. Wolf, I wanted to ask, how did you find your daughter?"
Nicholas never pried into others' business, so Daniel was even more surprised.
But it wasn't a secret.
Daniel briefly explained.
"Did you do a paternity test?" Nicholas asked.
"Yes."
"Where was it done?"
"What are you getting at?" Daniel asked, sensing something was off.
"Mr. Wolf, you might want to do another paternity test."
Daniel was silent. 'Is Nicholas suggesting I found the wrong person?'
"What's your basis?" Daniel asked.
Nicholas replied, "When Blake did the bone marrow match, he found you might not be biologically related."
Daniel's mind went blank. He couldn't accept it.
After a long pause, he said, "I understand, thank you."
Nicholas hung up, confident Daniel would verify it himself.
Daniel couldn't believe his daughter might not be his.
He stood outside the hospital, watching people pass by, with Nicholas' words echoing in his mind.
After about ten minutes, Daniel clenched his fist and went back inside.
He wanted to find Blake, but he was gone. So, he found Blake's assistant and got Diana's blood sample.
Caroline got a call from the bone marrow registry in the morning.
Back in college, she had registered after reading a plea for help from a leukemia patient. Moved by compassion, she signed up and left her contact info.
For years, she never got a call.
She had forgotten about it until now.
"Ms. Clark, the patient is still abroad. Once they return, we'll notify you for the match."
"Okay," Caroline agreed and hung up, then started looking up some precautions.
She had registered hoping to save a life someday. Now that the call came, she wouldn't refuse.
She thought of it as good karma for Josie.
She wanted Josie to grow up healthy and happy.
Meanwhile, Declan got feedback from the hospital.
"Diana, there's hope. The hospital contacted Caroline, and she agreed to do the match when we return," Declan said happily.
Linda, listening nearby, looked relieved.
She had been with Diana, watching her suffer, and it broke her heart.
She had repeatedly asked Daniel to find Caroline, but he hesitated because Caroline and Daisy were rivals.
They feared Caroline would refuse if she knew Diana was Daisy's family, so they decided not to tell her.
After the surgery, the Wolf family would properly thank Caroline.
Linda wanted to share the good news with Daniel but couldn't find him. He wasn't answering his phone either.
At that moment, Daniel returned to their temporary apartment with the paternity test results.
His hands trembled as he held the report.
He was really afraid to open it.
But he needed an answer, didn't he?
Daniel took a deep breath, then quickly opened the file and took out the report.
