Chapter 397 There Was Trash in the Ward
"Your dad is sick, but you can't even spare a minute to be with him?" Gummidge looked at Nicholas, her eyes filled with sadness and disappointment.
Nicholas clenched his fists on his lap.
"Yeah, he made mistakes, but he's still your father. How can you be so heartless and ignore his illness?"
"And Daisy, she's your wife now. Even if you're planning to move out, she should go with you."
Gummidge walked up to him, her eyes earnest and loving. She knelt down and held Nicholas' hand.
Her hand was warm, while his was icy cold, just like his heart.
"Nicholas, Daisy's a good girl. You can't keep letting her down."
"As for Caroline, it just wasn't meant to be."
Gummidge tried to persuade Nicholas. A family should be harmonious, and Daisy was a good match for Nicholas.
Nicholas stayed silent, feeling powerless.
Facing his family, he felt deeply powerless.
He pulled his hand out of Gummidge's grasp, his cold eyes mixed with despair.
"You all took advantage of my coma to hold a wedding I didn't want, and now she's my wife?" Nicholas sneered. "What if one day she gets pregnant with someone else's child and claims it's mine?"
His words cut Daisy deeply.
"Nicholas!" she screamed in pain. "How can you think of me like that? I'm not that kind of person. I love you. How could I get pregnant with someone else's child!"
Gummidge also sternly condemned him.
"Nicholas, that's too much!"
Nicholas' sense of powerlessness grew stronger. He realized he couldn't communicate with them at all.
He could never acknowledge that absurd wedding!
"Dad's illness isn't serious. The doctor said he just needs a few days of rest. Mom, you should take good care of him."
Leaving those words, Nicholas raised his hand, and Sharpe immediately pushed him away decisively.
Sharpe felt very sympathetic towards Nicholas.
He thought, 'Nicholas clearly cares about Aragorn, yet they still accused him of not caring.'
'If he didn't care, Nicholas wouldn't have spent so long talking to the doctor about Aragorn's condition.'
'Moreover, they even held a wedding while Nicholas was in a coma.'
A wedding without a groom—Sharpe had never seen such a thing.
'The Watson family must be crazy.'
'Nicholas really has no one who cares for him.'
Back at the villa, Sharpe sighed.
'Fortunately, Nicholas still has Josie.'
When Nicholas returned, he heard a violin playing.
Josie's violin style now faintly resembled Caroline's.
She was like a miniature version of Caroline.
Whether it was her posture, expression, or the style of the music, Josie was exactly like Caroline.
"How's Caroline doing today?" Nicholas asked.
Sharpe had always had someone keeping an eye on Caroline, and he received daily reports.
"Ms. Clark has been very obedient, staying in bed and cooperating with the doctors for rehab. The doctor said she should be able to go home in about a week."
The music stopped, and Sharpe pushed Nicholas inside.
When Josie saw Nicholas return, she put down her violin and rushed over.
"Daddy." She threw herself into Nicholas' arms. "We had our final exam today."
Even kindergarten had final exams.
"How'd you do?"
Josie said happily, "A hundred percent!"
"Josie, that's amazing." Nicholas smiled as he patted Josie's head.
Josie beamed.
Living in a new place, Josie had initially been quite unaccustomed, but now she had fully adapted.
It seemed better than the Watson family.
She no longer had to worry about being scolded for doing something wrong every time she came back.
She no longer had to fear seeing the stern Aragorn.
And her room was so big, with so many Barbie dolls, princess dresses, and all the things Emma had talked about—she had them all.
"Daddy, I want to see Mommy. Can I?"
She hadn't seen Caroline for two days.
Josie missed Caroline very much.
Faced with Josie's request, Nicholas smiled.
"Tomorrow."
"Thank you, Daddy."
At the hospital, Daisy burst into the room with red eyes.
"Caroline, what exactly do you want? Are you trying to break up me and Nicholas?"
Daisy screamed at Caroline like a mad woman.
Caroline was half-sitting on the bed, eating an apple.
She slowly chewed and swallowed the apple, then sneered, "Yes, I am trying to break you up."
Daisy, enraged, raised her hand to strike.
Caroline caught her hand.
"Daisy, I haven't even settled the score with you for stealing my child, and now you're here to cause trouble. Don't think that just because you're from the Wolf family, I can't do anything to you."
Even though Caroline was a powerless orphan, if pushed to the brink, she would destroy Daisy even if it meant mutual destruction.
Daisy was frightened by the fierce look in Caroline's eyes.
She stammered, "I didn't steal your child. Josie was... found."
"Don't tell me you found her in a hospital," Caroline mocked.
Back then, she had barely survived giving birth, only to pass out afterward. When she woke up, a nurse handed her a stillborn, saying the baby had died within minutes of birth.
The baby had been fine during prenatal checkups, so how could it have died at birth?
Later, Caroline overheard gossip from the nurses that someone had tampered with her delivery, causing the baby to die.
She was led to suspect Nicholas.
Dragging her weak body, she went to the Watson family to confront Nicholas, only to be beaten by people sent by Daisy.
For over six years, Caroline had believed her child was dead, and she hated Nicholas for it.
Daisy's eyes widened, her face twisted.
"Yes, I found her. Caroline, you should thank me for finding Josie. I raised her as my own. I helped you raise her."
"Back then, Nicholas wanted to kill the baby. I swapped your baby with a stillborn to keep her alive."
Daisy laughed. "So, you should thank me. Without me, Josie wouldn't have survived!"
If she could, Caroline would have jumped up and beaten Daisy.
She didn't know if Daisy was telling the truth, but it was true that Nicholas and Daisy had kept her from Josie for six years.
She would never forgive them!
Daisy had the nerve to say she raised Josie as her own!
Caroline, furious, laughed.
"Do you think I believe you? You've done so many bad things. You will inevitably face retribution."
Daisy said, "Whether I face retribution is none of your business. I am now Nicholas' wife. As for your Josie, she will still call me 'Mom' and be my daughter. Nicholas and I will have our own children."
"Why does this room smell so bad? Oh, it's because there's trash in here."
A voice full of disdain came from the doorway.
