Chapter 349 Did You Want to Lose Your Mom?
Aragorn smiled and raised his glass to have a drink with Daniel, but Gummidge pulled him back. "The doctor said you can't drink alcohol."
Aragorn said, "Just two glasses. Don't worry."
Daniel, now middle-aged with white hair showing, exuded a gentle demeanor. He smiled warmly and advised, "Health comes first. Why not have coffee instead of alcohol?"
Since Daniel suggested it, Aragorn put down the alcohol and had coffee brought over.
Aragorn replaced the alcohol with coffee and had a drink with Daniel, while Michael, sitting on the other side, looked displeased. Whenever Daniel was around, Aragorn always revolved around Daniel, neglecting him instead. It was the same in the past, and it's the same now!
Once upon a time, and even now, it remains the same! Aragorn has never changed; he remains as materialistic as ever.
The Wolf family had two sons; the eldest, Daniel, was outstanding, while the younger son, Michael, had average abilities. Therefore, the Wolf family handed over the family business to Daniel, while Michael only managed a position in the company. After taking over the company, Daniel quickly caught up with and even surpassed the Watson Group. When the Watson Group faced a crisis, it was the Wolf Group that came to their aid.
At that time, Aragorn fell ill, and Nicholas also faced troubles. Later, Nicholas overcame his difficulties, took on the family responsibilities, devoted himself wholeheartedly to the company, and resolutely expanded into new research labs. In just a few years, Nicholas had expanded the Watson Group to its current size, becoming a leader in the industry.
"When I think back, we must thank Daniel for his support. Without Daniel's financial backing, there would be no Watson Group today" Aragorn expressed his gratitude when reminiscing about the past.
Michael felt very unhappy, as only Daniel was being thanked. If it weren't for him supporting the engagement of the two children, there wouldn't have been this connection, and Daniel wouldn't have provided assistance.
Daniel smiled faintly. "It was just a small effort."
The research project proposed by Nicholas was indeed worth investing in. Daniel supported Nicholas by providing funds to establish a new research lab, and it proved that his judgment was correct. Nicholas was a young man of great ability.
"Yes, that amount of money is insignificant to our Wolf family." Michael, feeling ignored, raised his voice and interjected into their conversation.
A forced smile appeared on Aragorn's face.
Daisy kept looking towards the door, feeling disappointed each time she looked. Ms. Wolf gently patted her hand to comfort her. Josie sat next to Daisy, eating quietly and obediently, not making a sound.
"Josie is quite lovely." Linda affectionately looked at Josie and handed her a chicken leg.
Josie looked timid but politely said, "Thank you, Grandmother Linda."
Linda smiled warmly. "So well-behaved and sensible."
Although Josie wasn't Daisy's biological child, she was raised with manners, obedience, and sensibleness, and she did not cause any trouble at the dinner table, much better than the other children.
Linda was only a year older than Daisy's mother, but she appeared much older. Daisy's mother took good care of herself, with few wrinkles on her face and shiny black hair, while Linda had several wrinkles, especially noticeable at the corners of her eyes, adding a touch of storytelling to her appearance.
Yet Linda seemed more approachable and kind.
Josie was meeting with Linda for the second time, the first being at Michael's birthday party two years ago when Linda gave her a large doll, which Daisy had already discarded. Although it was their second meeting, Josie really liked Linda. Because Linda praised her.
Linda looked particularly nice, just like Caroline.
After dinner, Daniel and Linda bid farewell. Aragorn personally escorted them out.
Once in the car, Linda mentioned Josie to Daniel. "That child seems quite timid."
"After all, she's not Daisy's biological child. She has never had children, so how can she take care of her so well?" Daniel rubbed his forehead.
Linda reached out to massage his temples, saying, "I told you to drink less when you came."
Daniel said, "Aragorn's enthusiasm is unstoppable."
Looking at Daniel's graying temples and the fine lines on his face, both of them had aged considerably over the years.
"What's wrong?" Sensing Linda's pause, Daniel opened his eyes and looked at her.
Linda stared at a spot, her eyes slightly red.
Daniel sighed. "You're thinking about her again."
"I can't help it, darling. I really can't stop myself from thinking about her. After all these years, I don't even know if she's still alive, if she's doing well, if she's married and has children, if her husband mistreats her."
"Do we have a chance to see her in our lifetime?"
Listening to Linda, Daniel's eyes also welled up, and he hugged his wife, placing his hand on her shoulder, gently patting and comforting her.
"We will, we will definitely see her," Daniel said.
In another room, Daisy's mother and Daisy were having a conversation.
Daisy was in tears, holding onto her mother.
"The other day, Caroline hit me. Not only did Nicholas not help me, but he also won't let me back into the Watson Group."
Daisy's mother comforted her softly, "I've told you before you need to treat Josie better; use Josie to tie him down. As long as Josie approves of you, he will definitely marry you for Josie."
Daisy sobbed hoarsely. "But she's not my biological child. How can I treat her well? Every time I think about her being Caroline's child, I can't control myself."
A cold glint flashed in Daisy's mother's eyes.
"From now on, you must treat Josie as if she were your own, you must show Nicholas how good you are to Josie, and you must make Josie feel your motherly love."
"You absolutely cannot give Caroline a chance!"
Upon hearing this, Daisy burst into tears once again.
After about ten minutes, Daisy's mother called Josie into Daisy's room.
As soon as Josie entered, she saw Daisy with swollen eyes lying on the bed, looking lifeless, which made Josie nervous.
"Josie, come here." Daisy's mother beckoned Josie over.
Josie walked over.
"Your mom just cried." Daisy's mother held Josie's small hand, her face full of tenderness.
Josie looked at her with a puzzled expression.
"Did your mom hurt you?" Daisy's mother asked.
Josie wanted to nod but hesitated.
"Your mom knows she was wrong. She already admitted her mistake to me."
Daisy's mother tugged at Daisy's clothes, signaling her to react.
Daisy suddenly sat up and hugged Josie, and tears streamed down her face once again. "Josie, I'm sorry. I was wrong. I was angry at Caroline that day, that’s why I laid hands on you. Josie, can you forgive me? I'm really afraid that Caroline will take Nicholas away. If Nicholas is taken away, then I'll only have you. If you've taken away too, then I'll have nothing. Josie, do you want to lose your mom?"
