Chapter 84 So Sweet
Gabriel saw Sam going downstairs alone and gently asked, "Where are your little friends?"
Sam gestured with his hands, "They're shy, Daddy. Don't scare them away."
Gabriel touched his own cheek. Did he look terrifying?
Mrs. Lancaster chimed in, "Alright, hurry up and grab the documents, don't scare them off. Otherwise, Sam will be left without any friends."
Gabriel touched his nose again.
Although he didn't understand why those two kids were afraid of him, he didn't insist on meeting them.
If they didn't want to, then so be it. There would be other opportunities in the future.
Gabriel hurried upstairs, grabbed the documents, and left.
Emma was dawdling in the bathroom while Betty stood outside to make sure nothing happened to her.
She knocked on the door.
"Emma, are you done? Do you need Grandma's help?"
"No need, I'm fine." Emma opened the door and smiled sweetly at Betty.
Afraid that their negligent father would return, Ethan and Emma didn't dare to let loose and play.
So, Mrs. Lancaster took them to the orchard to pick oranges.
Seeing the three children running freely in the orchard, Madam felt her heart fill with something.
The energy that Ethan and Emma possessed was exactly what Sam lacked.
With these two children leading the way, perhaps Sam's illness would improve soon.
Mrs. Lancaster thought about Emma's suggestion of transferring Sam to another school.
Initially, it was just kids' talk, but now Madam started considering it seriously.
Maybe it was worth a try.
The three kids ran and began to sweat profusely in the orchard, filling a basket with oranges.
The servants carried them over.
"Great-Grandma, this is the biggest orange I picked for you." Emma proudly presented the one she thought was the largest to Mrs. Lancaster.
Ethan and Sam also offered one each.
Mrs. Lancaster beamed as she accepted the three oranges.
"Very well, very well. Let Grandma taste and see whose orange is the sweetest, alright?"
"Okay!" Emma and Ethan echoed in unison.
Sam also opened his mouth slightly.
Mrs. Lancaster, with her keen eyes, noticed, and a flicker of anticipation surged from within.
However, Sam didn't make a sound after opening his mouth, but the genuine smile in his eyes couldn't be faked.
Mrs. Lancaster wasn't disappointed either; in fact, hope filled her heart.
Betty helped peel the three oranges, and Mrs. Lancaster tasted each one.
With three pairs of expectant eyes watching her, Madam playfully booped their noses one by one.
"They're all sweet. Grandma will reward you later."
"Yay, there's a reward!" Emma happily hugged Mrs. Lancaster.
Ethan and Sam also approached with admiration.
The three kids were all sweaty, so when they returned to the villa.
Betty promptly arranged for the servants to run a bath for them.
Emma saw the princess dress brought by the maid and felt delighted.
Ethan, on the other hand, fell into contemplation.
Does that scoundrel father have only Sam as a child?
Why is there a princess dress in the house?
Could it be... that scoundrel father wants to have another daughter?
With that wicked woman?
Ethan furrowed his brow, feeling even more concerned about Sam's situation.
He needed to help Mommy snatch Sam back as soon as possible, or else Sam would have a stepmother and stepsister.
The three children went to bathe separately, while Betty stayed with Madam.
"We are fortunate that you prepared clothes for Miss Emma. Otherwise, Emma would have had nothing to wear."
Mrs. Lancaster nodded in agreement.
For the past five years, Madam had prepared clothes for those two children every year.
She even decorated two rooms, one similar to Sam's room, clearly meant for a boy, and the other had a princess theme.
Madam poured her yearning into these things, having the servants clean them every day, as if the two children could still come back, as if they could move in.
Today, when she dressed Emma in the clothes, she could pretend that Emma was her great-granddaughter for a day.
After lunch, all three children took their afternoon nap.
Ethan and Emma played at the Lancaster family's old mansion until four in the afternoon, bidding farewell reluctantly to Grandma.
Sam personally walked them back.
"Today must have been the happiest day for the young master," Betty couldn't help but sigh.
"Yes, it has also been my happiest day," Mrs. Lancaster's smile had yet to fade from her lips.
Betty supported Madam as they entered the house.
"Throughout the day, I kept feeling that these two children looked familiar, but I just couldn't remember who they resembled. I'm getting old, my brain is deteriorating," Madam sighed.
One mustn't resist getting old; after spending the whole day with the children, her energy couldn't keep up either.
Betty poured her a glass of water. "I also felt familiar. Today, when I saw Ethan seriously studying the toys, he bore some resemblance to our young master."
Mrs. Lancaster took the glass and took a sip, then smiled. "Both of those children are so beautiful, and so is our Sam. Good-looking children are bound to have some resemblance."
After all, they all look good.
Betty agreed, saying, "That's true."
Mrs. Lancaster leaned against the sofa, closing her eyes slightly.
"When they call me Grandma, I always feel like those two children are calling me. Maybe, I could really want to meet them soon."
Betty's heart skipped a beat, and she quickly said, "Madam, please don't overthink. Take care of yourself."
"Just teasing with you, why are you so anxious?" Madam opened her eyes, full of laughter. "I can't bear to leave Sam behind, I don't want to die so soon."
Betty couldn't help but laugh and cry; Madam was playful today.
After Sam sent Ethan and Emma back to their home, he returned home immediately.
Madam and Betty were having a casual conversation.
When her great-grandson came back, Madam smiled kindly and waved him over.
"Did you have fun today?" Madam gently stroked Sam's head.
Sam nodded, happiness shining in his eyes.
"You really like them, don't you?"
Sam nodded again and asked, "Does Granny like them too?"
Mrs. Lancaster smiled, "Granny likes them too. Next time, you can bring them to the house to play."
Sam was very happy.
"Do you want to go to the same kindergarten as them?" Mrs. Lancaster didn't forget about this matter.
Sam certainly wanted to, but he gestured, "Does Daddy agree?"
"If you want to go, Granny will talk to your Daddy, and he will agree," Mrs. Lancaster assured him.
Sam grinned widely.
Mrs. Lancaster hugged her great-grandson, her heart filled with infinite longing and hope.
Meanwhile, Ethan and Emma, who had returned home, were discussing their feelings after meeting Granny.
"I think Granny is really nice. She even prepared a princess dress for me," Emma said, looking at the princess dress she was wearing, reluctant to take it off.
Ethan agreed, "Sam said Granny is lonely at home, so maybe we should spend more time with her in the future?"
Originally, Ethan only intended to meet Granny this once, but after spending a day with her, they realized how kind and warm Granny was, and they instantly grew fond of her.
With their plan set, Ethan decided that the next time they go, they must ensure that his mean Daddy won't show up, and it would be best if Granny could come out to play.
