Chapter 675 Travel
Caroline had just finished breakfast and was about to head out when her phone buzzed. It was Sophia.
"Hey, wanna take the kids on a trip?" Sophia asked.
Caroline raised an eyebrow. "Where'd this idea come from?"
Sophia's voice turned serious. "Nicholas hid something big from you. Don't you think he deserves a little payback?"
Caroline thought for a second, then grinned. "Alright, I'll pack up."
"Great, I'll pick you up at eleven," Sophia said.
"Sounds good!"
Caroline hung up and told Daniel and Linda about the trip. Daniel just nodded.
"Take Josie and have a blast, but stay safe," he said, handing her a bank card.
Caroline shook her head. "I’ve got money."
Linda pushed the card back into her hand. "Save yours for later."
"But you’ve already given me a bunch of these," Caroline laughed.
"Take them all," Linda insisted.
Caroline finally gave in.
Daniel had to head to the office, so Linda stayed to help Caroline pack.
Just as Daniel was leaving, a guest showed up—Aragorn.
Aragorn didn’t usually read tabloids, but he’d heard about Nicholas getting trashed and had seen the reports.
Daisy had accused him of plotting against Caroline, and Aragorn couldn’t let that slide. He had to explain things to Daniel.
Daniel sat in his car, glaring at Aragorn and Gummidge with icy eyes.
Aragorn felt a shiver run down his spine.
He stepped forward. "Daniel, don’t believe Daisy’s lies. I never hurt Caroline."
"How dare you!" Daniel snapped.
Aragorn’s face turned awkward. He gripped his cane tightly, with Gummidge supporting him.
"Daisy got kicked out of The Watson Manor. She’s holding a grudge and trying to drive a wedge between us. Don’t believe her," Aragorn pleaded.
Daniel snorted. "I’ll find out the truth. You should be in the hospital, not meddling in Caroline and Nicholas’s business. Keep it up, and you’ll die even faster."
Even with his usual calm, Daniel couldn’t help but curse.
He’d already sent people to investigate. While the final results weren’t in, what they had so far matched Daisy’s story.
Aragorn’s face went pale. He looked like he might faint.
He felt a wave of panic but quickly calmed down. Even if Daniel guessed the truth, he had no proof.
Plus, Caroline loved Nicholas. As long as they loved each other, the marriage between the families would stand.
Aragorn thought, 'Daniel wouldn’t go against Caroline’s wishes and break them up, right? That’d make him just like me.'
He didn’t believe Daniel, who loved Caroline, would do that.
Aragorn’s confidence surged, and the panic on his face vanished.
"Mr. Wolf, thanks for your concern. I’m feeling much better! I’ll definitely live to see my son get married and have kids, and to see my grandkids born."
Daniel gave Aragorn a cold look, wondering where his sudden confidence came from.
Aragorn glanced at The Wolf Mansion.
"Josie's been here long enough. I'm taking her back today," Aragorn declared.
Daniel laughed, but it was more of an angry bark. "If you even think about stepping through that door, I'll have someone break your legs!"
Aragorn was taken aback, thinking, 'Are we really going to ruin the relationship between our families over Caroline?'
"Josie is a Watson. She belongs with us," Aragorn insisted.
Daniel shot back, "Don't forget, you didn't want Josie in the first place. Now you want her back? Dream on. And as for plotting against my daughter, the Wolfs won't let it slide!"
With that, Daniel rolled up the car window, told the driver to go, and called Linda at home. He told her that if Aragorn refused to leave, to let the dogs loose.
Hearing Daniel's words, Aragorn suddenly couldn't catch his breath, rolled his eyes, and fainted.
Gummidge quickly called for help to get Aragorn to the hospital.
Linda saw the whole thing on the surveillance cameras and muttered, "Good thing you know better, or I'd have to release the dogs myself."
Caroline came downstairs just then and caught Linda muttering. "What's going on?"
Linda turned around with a big smile. "Nothing. By the way, where are you going on your trip?"
Sophia sent the address, and around eleven, she arrived to pick up Caroline.
Linda, feeling a bit emotional, held Caroline and Josie's hands, giving them a ton of instructions.
"Remember to call me when you get there. Let me know you're safe. Call if anything happens. Eat on time. It's getting colder, so keep warm and don't catch a cold, and..."
Sophia watched, smiling. She was so happy for Caroline. 'Caroline finally has real family who care about her,' she thought.
For the first time, Caroline felt the warmth of someone caring about her departure. She listened to Linda's instructions for half an hour. Linda's mouth was almost dry before she realized she'd been talking for so long.
She felt a bit embarrassed. "You guys should get in the car."
"Okay."
Josie got in the car and waved to Linda. "Goodbye, Grandma."
"Goodbye, Josie."
In the back seat, the four kids—Sam and Ethan—were sleeping, while Emma and Josie were chatting.
Sophia was driving, and Caroline sat in the passenger seat munching on snacks, occasionally feeding some to Sophia.
With her mouth full, Sophia mumbled, "Once we get there and let everyone know we're safe, we're putting our phones on silent. No answering calls from those two men during the trip."
Caroline knew she meant Gabriel and Nicholas. She nodded, "Okay."
Gabriel and Nicholas needed to be taught a lesson.
Caroline had already taken leave from school, and Sophia had informed Celeste and Ruth.
This trip was just for them.
Before leaving, Sophia hadn't told Gabriel.
So when Gabriel came home, he found the place empty.
Even the maids and housekeepers were gone.
The house was brightly lit but eerily empty.
'What's going on?' he wondered.
Gabriel immediately called Sophia, but she didn't answer. He then called Ruth, who also didn't pick up. Finally, he called Betty, who answered.
