Chapter 40 Begging Him

Gabriel furrowed his eyebrows and forcefully pulled Sam's hand towards him. When he saw the bruises on it, a storm of darkness immediately brewed in his eyes.

He turned his head to scrutinize Tiffany.

"What happened?" His voice seemed to come from hell, chilling Tiffany to the bone. Her face turned pale as she hastily explained.

"I-I didn't mean to, Gabriel, please listen to me, I..." but she hadn't come up with an excuse yet.
Damn it, Gabriel had never noticed her little actions before, but today... It's all because of Sophia, that busybody!

In an instant, she thought of something and lowered her head in apology.

"I'm sorry, Gabriel. I thought I saw my uncle just now and got nervous, that's why I couldn't control my strength."

Gabriel knew about Tiffany's past. Her uncle was her childhood shadow, and even now, mentioning him would terrify her, let alone seeing him.

Throughout these years, Tiffany had been by Gabriel's side, treating Sam as her own. She often took care of Sam and accompanied him when Gabriel was busy. He trusted that she wouldn't intentionally hurt Sam like this.

Seeing Gabriel easily believe Tiffany's lie, Sophia was extremely disappointed.

Gabriel turned to explain to Sophia that Tiffany didn't mean to hurt Sam, but he was met with Sophia's icy and indifferent face, rendering him speechless.

Sophia gently blew on Sam's hand and asked him with concern, "Does it hurt? Auntie will take you to get some medicine."

Sam was not used to this. Every time Auntie Foster accidentally hurt him, he would cover it with his clothes and wait for it to heal on its own, without his dad ever finding out.

But this woman noticed Auntie Foster hurting his hand right away.

Sam's little heart felt complex and confused.

Regardless, Sophia was Sam's biological mother, and Gabriel had no reason to refuse Sophia taking Sam to get his medicine.

Tiffany followed Gabriel with a grievous expression, continuously apologizing. Gabriel grew somewhat impatient from listening and coldly said, "I understand."

Tiffany kept her mouth shut, not daring to say another word.

Sophia bought the medicine from the pharmacy and found a place to sit down and personally applied it to Sam.

Her actions were gentle, afraid of hurting the little guy again. As she applied the medicine, she coaxed him, "If it hurts, just say so. I won't laugh at you, it's okay to cry."

Emma would cry loudly when she got hurt, and Ethan would sometimes groan when the pain was unbearable. But Sam didn't utter a single sound, as if the hand didn't belong to him.

As Sophia continued to apply the medicine, tears started to fall uncontrollably from her eyes.
She couldn't control her emotions and looked up at Gabriel with excitement.

"Give Sam to me, please, give him to me."

"Oh no, Sam is still so young, he needs me. If you really love children, then have another one with Tiffany. Your own child, Tiffany will definitely cherish them beyond measure and ensure that they don't suffer even a bit."

Her tears blurred her vision, but she couldn't worry about that anymore.

Tiffany's attitude towards Sam, as well as Gabriel's attitude towards Tiffany, made her extremely worried about Sam.

After all, Sam is not Tiffany's own child, so how could Tiffany give her whole heart to him?
Gabriel paused, is she... begging him?

Since they first met five years ago, Sophia always opposed him and showed her displeasure towards him in every way. Now, for Sam, she was desperately pleading with him, crying out loud.

In that moment, Gabriel felt that he no longer needed to doubt Sophia's love for Sam.

After Tiffany's initial surprise, her face turned dark and she firmly refuted Sophia's words, saying, "Miss Kelly, although Sam is not my biological child, he is just as dear to me as my own. I have already explained, what happened earlier was just an accident and I am filled with guilt now."

Sophia seemed not to have heard Tiffany's words as she anxiously looked at Gabriel.

She had put aside her grudges and her pride, and now she was pleading in this manner.

Even if Gabriel could give Sam to her, she could let go of all her hate towards him in the past.

She desperately hoped that Gabriel wouldn't be so cruel and heartless, right?

But reality slapped her in the face.

Without any hesitation or thought, Gabriel rejected her, saying, "Sam is my son, I cannot give him to anyone. It's getting late, I need to take him back."

After speaking, he went to hold Sam.

However, Sam for the first time refused to be held by his father. Gabriel's hand froze in mid-air, while Sam seemed not to have noticed at all as he pulled Sophia and she turned around.
Sam reached out his small hand and wiped away her tears, gently drying them.

Sophia instantly went from sobbing to smiling, berating herself in her heart for being too impulsive just now, for pleading with Gabriel, a man with a heart of stone. She despised herself.

Look at how good her son is, he even knows how to wipe away her tears, how much he cares for her.

Sophia suddenly hugged Sam tightly, and Sam didn't struggle, allowing himself to be held quietly.

In this moment, the scene was very heartwarming, but it felt particularly glaring to Tiffany. She wanted to ruin it, but when she saw Gabriel's expressionless face, her thoughts came to a halt.

"I'm sorry, I couldn't protect you and let you get hurt. Next time, I will personally make you a meal to compensate, okay?" Sophia whispered softly in Sam's ear.

Sam nodded.

These short two hours of being together had brought Sam closer to accepting Sophia.

Reluctantly, Sophia watched as her son was carried away by Gabriel in the car. She had a slight smile on her lips, until the car completely disappeared from sight, and the smile vanished from her face.

She took out her phone and opened the photo she had just taken when Gabriel and Tiffany weren't paying attention. It was a picture of Sam's bruised hand. She then forwarded it to the lawyer.

...
Gabriel didn't bring Sam back to the old house. Sam fell asleep not long after getting in the car, so Gabriel decided to take his son to the apartment. When they got out of the car, Tiffany tried to hold Sam, but Gabriel stopped her.

She gritted her teeth in anger and obediently followed behind Gabriel.

"I really didn't mean to," she continued to explain.

Gabriel walked out of the room, glanced at her coldly, and from what he had seen today, Tiffany really didn't know how to take care of a child.

If it were Sophia in this situation, she would probably try to endure her fear and would never harm the child.

Gabriel had no idea that in such a short period of time, his perception of Sophia had already changed a bit.

He sat down on the couch. "I will have Alex investigate whether your uncle has come to B City. Don't worry, I won't give him a chance to get close to you, and you don't need to be afraid anymore."

Tiffany knew very well that her uncle hadn't come to B City; it was just an excuse she came up with in a moment of desperation. But she couldn't say it.

"I'm sorry," she sat next to Gabriel, tears streaming down her face, looking pitiful. "I've made things difficult for you."

Seeing her like this, Gabriel's heart softened slightly.

"I told you, you don't need to worry. I won't fall in love with Sophia. Now everything is for Sam."
