Chapter 16: Can't Hide Anymore

Emma scurried over in her yellow duck slippers and hugged Sophia's leg.
"Mommy."
Sophia affectionately rubbed the little one's head. Ethan also approached, looking worriedly at Sophia.
"Mommy, are you okay? Don't worry."
Ethan looked around, checking for any injuries, and only then felt relieved.
After Mommy left, he went to the study to hack into the nearby surveillance devices. He saw Mommy walking away with that man, and he became very worried. He quickly investigated and found out that they went to a kindergarten and stayed there for over an hour.
By then, it was already noon. Sophia cooked a meal and ate with the two little ones before calling Vincent.
"I can stay here, you and the children can temporarily stay as well, it's inconvenient to go to a hotel." Vincent didn't want Sophia to stay in a hotel.
With him, he could take care of them when he returned home after work, but Sophia didn't want to trouble Vincent too much. Plus, they were of the opposite sex, and it wouldn't be friendly for a single nobleman like Vincent to have her and the cute little ones staying with him.
It wouldn't be good if any gossip started circulating.
"We can't stay in a hotel for long anyway."
When Vincent heard this, he looked disappointed. She still wanted to go back to Country M.
"Alright, then we have to choose a hotel nearby, in case anything happens, I can rush over in time."
"Okay."
After hanging up the phone, Sophia took the two children to a nearby hotel. After settling in, she immediately went online to search for a house.
"Huh, Mommy, why are you only looking at houses in City B? Is Mommy buying a house?" Ethan asked, his small head full of questions as he approached.
Upon hearing this, Emma dropped the blocks in her hand and ran over.
"Mommy, are we staying here for good?"
Sophia gently pinched Emma's nose. "Yes, my dear. Mommy has decided to return to her hometown, and from now on, the three of us will live in City B."
"Yay, that's great! Mommy grew up here, and now my brother and I can grow up here too."
Emma clapped her hands happily and hugged Sophia tightly. "Long live Mommy!"
Sophia didn't know that Emma would be so happy about returning to City B. Not only Emma, but Ethan was also very happy.
In Country M, they were often bullied by other children because they looked different. And Mommy's career there was frequently obstructed as well.
But why did Mommy suddenly make this decision, didn’t she say yesterday to Uncle Vincent that she would return to Country M after taking care of something.
Ethan's little brain quickly figured out that this might have something to do with Mommy's visit to the kindergarten today. More and more doubts arose.
But no matter what, he had to protect Mommy and not let that man bully her again. Ethan pointed to a set of houses that Sophia had just found.
"Mommy, I like this one."
Emma also glanced at it. "This house doesn't look nice, it doesn't have the same..."
"That set is so pretty, all pink."
"That set looks nice but is not practical, Mommy, let's buy this set."
He had surveyed the terrain where this house is located, and it has good security and convenient transportation, with many supermarkets nearby.
Sophia took a look at the price of this house and was shocked.
In line with the rapid economic development, the housing prices in B City have skyrocketed. Five years ago, a house like this would only cost three to four hundred thousand, but now it's over three million.
Her savings are just about this much.
Should I just rent a place?
But if she does that, it will be difficult for the children to enroll in school in B City and attend a good one.
Sophia thought for a while and decided to buy it for the sake of the children. To move into the new house as soon as possible, Sophia immediately made an appointment with the real estate agent to view the house and quickly sign the contract.
The house has already been renovated, and furnished with all brand new appliances. They can move in directly.
On the day Sophia received the house, she hired professionals to clean it and moved in right away.
Vincent finally got a holiday and came to the hotel where Sophia was staying. He called Sophia from downstairs.
"Have you arrived at the hotel? Sorry, Vincent, I forgot to tell you, I just moved into the Yulan community today."
"What happened?" Vincent asked in confusion.
"I have decided to stay and live in China."
Vincent's breathing paused for a second, he gripping his phone excitedly, unable to believe it, and asked, "Really? Have you made up your mind?"
"Yeah, by the way, I have something to ask you, Vincent, why don't you come over for dinner and celebrate my new home?"
"Okay."
Sophia had no friends in B City anymore. Those friends had already disappeared when her family fell apart. After marrying Gabriel, she kept a low profile and relied solely on Gabriel.
She didn't have many friends, so there was no one she could contact now that she returned to China. Vincent immediately drove over.
On the way, he couldn't figure out why Sophia suddenly changed her mind. No wonder she said she couldn't stay at the hotel for long. So that's what she meant.
When Vincent arrived, Sophia was cooking in the kitchen. Emma came to open the door and when she saw her godfather, she sweetly called out, "Godfather."
Vincent picked up Emma and pinched her little nose.
"Why does godfather also like to pinch my nose?"
"Oh? Who else likes to pinch your little nose?"
"Mama, Mama always likes to pinch it." Emma showed her unhappiness.
Vincent chuckled, "If Emma doesn't like it, then godfather won't do it anymore."
"Forget it, I only allow godfather and Mama to pinch, no one else is allowed." Emma acted generously.
Vincent was amused by the little one. He put Emma down and wanted to help in the kitchen but was chased out by Sophia.
"Just wait outside."
After half an hour, four dishes and a soup were ready. Vincent looked at them, the
Color and fragrance of the dishes filled their hearts with emotion, as it seemed like it had been a long time since Vincent last enjoyed a meal cooked by Sophia.
The two little ones were excited about moving to a new home, and they even had an extra bowl of rice. After causing a ruckus for a while, they finally went for their afternoon nap. It was only then that Sophia had the chance to ask Vincent.
The TV was turned on, but neither of them had any interest in watching it. Suddenly, the atmosphere became heavy, and Vincent nervously glanced at Sophia, as if something was about to be revealed.
"Vincent, the other day Gabriel took me to a kindergarten and I saw a little boy who was the same age as Ethan," Sophia inquired, with a probing look.
She had to ask Vincent in order to uncover the truth. Five years ago, she had fainted during childbirth, and Vincent performed the operation on her. He also made all the arrangements, and when she finally woke up, everything had been settled.
Upon hearing her words, Vincent's expression slightly changed, and the hand by his side clenched suddenly. As expected, he knew that he couldn't hide it any longer.
In fact, he had no intention of keeping it a secret for long either. After a moment of silence, Vincent sighed and shifted his gaze to a corner, slowly speaking, "I'm sorry, I lied to you."
"Gabriel is sensitive and suspicious, and if I didn't give him a child to distract his attention, he would easily find you."
