Chapter 54 The More I Listen, the More it Hurts
Emma took a big bite, her cheeks bulging as she chewed, resembling a little hamster. Sam couldn't help but be captivated by her cuteness. After finishing her bite, Emma asked him, “Did you see clearly? Food tastes better when you take big bites.”
"But Daddy said we should chew slowly and swallow carefully." Sam said.
"My mommy says food tastes better when you eat it with relish, and it helps you grow taller too."
Sam was curious about this. Did eating with big bites really taste different from chewing slowly? Why does eating with big bites make it more delicious?
Emma scooped up a spoonful and brought it to his mouth.
Sam hesitated and declined.
She had scooped from her own bowl, but Daddy said it's not good to eat from someone else's bowl, it's unclean.
"Come on, it's delicious," Emma urged.
Emma loved rice with gravy, especially when her mommy made it. She could eat two big bowls of it. Plus, she and Ethan had tasted each other's food before, so to her, it was normal. Moreover, she already considered Sam her little brother.
Yes, she saw Sam as her little brother, not her big brother.
She had always dreamed of having a little brother so she could tease him, but this little brother was too delicate, so she refrained from teasing him.
Sam still refused to eat.
Emma was getting angry. Her little brother wasn't obedient!
Seeing her unhappiness, Sam didn't want to upset her, so he reluctantly opened his mouth. Emma forcefully feeding him, stuffing his mouth full.
A spicy and pungent taste spread in his mouth, Sam wanted to spit it out, but his good manners made him chew it carefully and swallow, then drink a glass of water.
Ethan asked curiously, "Is it too spicy?"
He scooped some and tasted it, but it wasn't spicy at all.
Oh right, maybe Sam can't eat spicy food. Emma eagerly asked him, “Is it delicious?” Not wanting to disappoint Emma, Sam nodded and indicated that it was delicious. She immediately looked happy and satisfied and offered him half of her rice.
Being a good sister meant sharing what you liked with your little brother. She truly was the best sister in the world.
Sam: ...
Now he had no choice, he had to eat.
Meanwhile, Gabriel found out about Sam's leave of absence right away.
As the three adorable kids enjoyed their meal together, David received a call from the boss.
"Why did he take leave?" Gabriel asked in a stern voice.
David stuttered and couldn't come up with a reason. The young master didn't allow him to speak, but he couldn't deceive the boss either.
"If you don't tell me now, go back home. Sam won't need your protection anymore."
David trembled. He was counting on this salary to save money for marriage. If he went back home like this, his mother would definitely kill him.
He chose to betray the young master without hesitation.
"The young master didn't want to stay in kindergarten and said he wanted to go to the amusement park instead."
"In the garden." Gabriel furrowed his brows. He had never wanted to go to the amusement park before when Tiffany and he took him there. So why did he suddenly want to go and play?
"Just him?"
David glanced at the two kids not far away, his gaze flickering.
"Yes."
After hanging up the phone, Gabriel immediately called Alfred again and explained the situation to him.
Alfred analyzed, "Young master seems to want to step out a bit. Going to the amusement park alone shows that he also yearns to play with other kids. If he has such thoughts in the future, try to fulfill them as much as possible and encourage him to interact with other children."
With this, Gabriel's worries disappeared.
As long as it was for Sam's well-being, he would never stand in the way.
He then made another call to instruct David to stick close to Sam and keep him safe, no matter where he went. He could indulge Sam in his desires, but he had to report back.
On this day, Gabriel was in a particularly good mood, so when Tiffany mentioned the conflict Sophia had with someone in the design department, he treated it as a boring piece of gossip.
"Miss Kelly's temper is too impatient. Fiona didn't mean it on purpose. How could she ruin Fiona's sample clothes?"
Tiffany observed Gabriel's expression as she spoke.
Gabriel actually thought Sophia was not wrong.
What was wrong with fighting fire with fire? Should he just stand and take blows?
But he didn't argue with Tiffany either.
Seeing Gabriel's lack of response, Tiffany quickly withdrew her probing thoughts.
"By the way, do you have time this weekend? We haven't been on a vacation for a long time. Let's take Sam and go on a vacation to S City," Tiffany suggested.
Gabriel glanced at his itinerary and found that he could make time this weekend. Since his son showed signs of improvement, it would be good to take him out to play. So, he agreed.
"Then I'll arrange it right away," Tiffany said excitedly.
Since Sophia appeared, it had been a long time since Tiffany felt so relaxed. During this vacation, she wanted to try again and see if she could get closer to Gabriel.
As long as she could break through this barrier, no one would be able to stop her and Gabriel.
...
Sophia, Larry and Charlotte were having lunch in the cafeteria when someone sat down next to them. The three of them looked up.
"Harrison." Charlotte exclaimed in surprise.
Harrison gave Charlotte and Larry a slight smile. "I have something to talk to Sophia about. You guys..."
The two quickly realized the situation and gave face by carrying their trays to another table.
Harrison sat opposite Sophia, his eyes fixed on her without blinking.
"So, you're not dead."
Sophia glanced at him indifferently. "You and Gabriel are really brothers. Neither of you wishes for my survival."
Harrison widened his eyes and said, "This is a pleasant surprise, a tone of pleasant surprise, you know?" He took a few bites of his food and glanced at Sophia a few times. After not seeing her for over five years, Sophia had become much more beautiful than before.
"I'm curious, how did you manage to deceive Gabriel? He's such a clever person, yet you managed to trick him. Tut tut," Harrison said.
"I don't want to mention the past," Sophia replied.
Harrison was Gabriel's childhood friend, and Sophia had seen him several times five years ago. They weren't very close, but they were not strangers either.
"Fine, let's not talk about the past then. Let's talk about the present. How did Gabriel hire you at the company? Are there... something between you two?" Harrison gave her a suggestive look.
Finally, tired of Tiffany, did Gabriel realize that his ex-wife was better?
"Don't make wild guesses. I joined Lancaster solely for the sake of the child," Sophia said.” You mean Sam, huh? But speaking of which, if you are alive, Sam would probably be the happiest person.” Harrison said.
Hearing this, Sophia's eyes lit up, and her attitude towards Harrison softened a lot.
"Would Sam be happy?" Sophia asked.
"Of course, but you know, Sam is autistic," Harrison said.
Sophia nodded with a heavy expression.
Harrison didn't hesitate to share many things about Sam, starting from when she "passed away." The more Sophia listened, the more her heart ached.
It turned out that Sam had spent a month in an incubator.
He refused to drink milk, just like Emma, being picky with food.
