Chapter 433 Something Happened at Harbor Bay
Ella fretted, "What if Sophia doesn't want to go? We can't just force her, right? Ruth seemed like she'd still protect Sophia."
Logan pondered deeply.
"The Blackwood family is loaded. We've finally got some power thanks to them. If they find out about that incident, we're screwed. We need to get rid of Sophia," Ella said, a ruthless glint in her eyes.
Logan thought about how he'd been living the high life for the past six months, with everyone kissing up to him. He used to beg others. Now they begged him. Losing it all because of Sophia was out of the table.
Logan and Ella exchanged a knowing look. Chloe, unaware, went to her room for a nap.
Sophia decided to put the Brown family aside for now. She wasn't going abroad.
That evening, Sophia called Caroline.
Caroline didn't mention what happened in Country Y. It was over, and telling Sophia would just worry her.
"Are you coming back?" Sophia asked, surprised. "Did something happen?"
"Nicholas found us. He won't let go. We've agreed I'll live in City B with Josie from now on."
Sophia frowned, unsure what to say. Like Caroline, she didn't have the power to fight such a powerful figure.
"When are you coming back?" she asked.
"In a few days."
"Okay, stay at my place when you get back."
"Sure, Josie will be thrilled to play with Emma again."
Talking about the kids, Sophia and Caroline had endless things to discuss.
With Harrison away and Alex too busy, Gabriel couldn't slack off anymore. He'd been swamped these past few days.
Early in the morning, Sophia heard the doorbell.
She opened the door to see Gabriel in a suit, with a Bentley parked outside.
"You..." she said, puzzled. 'What's Gabriel doing here so early?'
Gabriel looked at her gently. "I have to go on a business trip to City S for three days."
Sophia was even more puzzled. 'Why is Gabriel telling me about his trip?'
"Oh."
Gabriel, unhappy with her cold reaction, suddenly hugged her. Sophia was stunned and tried to push him away, but he held her tighter.
"Can't you be gentle?"
Sophia stayed silent.
"Even if you can't, I have to try."
He had been heartless before, and now that she'd given up, it was her turn to be cold. Gabriel knew he'd been a jerk, so he couldn't give up now. If he did, he'd have nothing left.
Gabriel let go and got in the car. As he was getting in, he heard Sophia's voice.
"Be careful on the road."
Such a simple sentence made Gabriel smile. He turned back. "Okay, I'll bring you a gift when I return."
Sophia nodded lightly.
Gabriel was in a great mood, even humming on the way to the airport. Little did he know, after he left, a faint smile appeared on Sophia's lips, one she didn't even notice herself.
Two days flew by, and the kids were about to start school. Sophia urged the kids to come home. In the video call, Emma was tanned.
"Mommy, it's so fun here. Next time, let's bring you along," Emma said, holding a big peach, juice dripping as she took a bite.
Ethan, looking disgusted, wiped her mouth with a tissue, while Sam waved his big peach at Sophia.
"Mommy, we're coming back tomorrow. Do you miss us?" Ethan's voice was sweet.
Sam immediately gestured. "I miss you, Mommy."
Sophia wanted to hug the three kids and kiss them one by one.
"I miss you all too. Come back soon, and I'll make you something delicious."
"Great-grandma said she wants to eat Trifle."
"Okay, I'll make Trifle for her. What about you?"
The three kids each said what they wanted to eat, almost drooling as they spoke. Emma took another big bite of her peach.
After hanging up, Sophia thought about the food for tomorrow.
'The kids will be back tomorrow, and Gabriel should also be back from his business trip. He'll probably come to see the kids, right?'
Thinking about it, Sophia sent a message to Alex, asking what time Gabriel would return to City B tomorrow.
It took several minutes for Alex to reply.
Alex: [Mr. Lancaster has already returned early.]
'He cameback early?'
For some reason, Sophia felt a bit stifled.
Putting down her phone, Sophia got up to open the window for some fresh air.
Breathing in the cool air, the stuffiness in her heart dissipated a lot.
Her nose was a bit stuffy. 'Am I catching a cold again?'
Her health was really poor. She had just recovered a few days ago and now she was catching a cold again.
Sophia took her phone upstairs, forgetting to close the window.
She lay down but couldn't sleep, so she picked up her phone to check Twitter.
Soon, she saw a post from Tiffany.
Tiffany said she was sick and posted a photo of herself getting an IV. Sophia was about to scroll past but noticed a foot in Tiffany's photo.
She clicked on the photo to enlarge it.
The shoe on that foot was a high-end custom design, Gabriel's favorite style, unique.
Being sensitive to sizes, Sophia looked at the size of that foot and was even more certain it was Gabriel's.
'So, Gabriel came back early because Tiffany was sick?' she scoffed inwardly. 'And he is with Tiffany right now?'
Sophia felt like she had been punched hard, completely stunned.
She stared at the photo for about two minutes, then returned to the main screen, no longer interested in looking at anything else.
Sophia buried her face in the pillow, making it hard to breathe for a moment. Then she turned back, facing up, took a deep breath, and exhaled.
She finally got rid of that stifling feeling in her heart.
"Gabriel, you really can't change your nature," she murmured.
She had even been thinking about what to cook for him tomorrow, considering his gastritis and planning to make something light yet delicious.
Now she felt angry. 'Let Tiffany cook for him!'
Taking a deep breath through her stuffy nose, Sophia pulled up the covers and turned off the light to sleep.
Gabriel, after getting off the plane and preparing to go to Harbor Bay, received a call from Tiffany.
He didn't go to Tiffany's place. After hanging up on her, he immediately called for an ambulance.
Tiffany was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Gabriel went to the hospital to check on her and found out that Tiffany had food poisoning, causing diarrhea and a high fever.
When Gabriel left the hospital, it was already past ten. He calculated that it would take fifty minutes to get to Harbor Bay from there. Sophia slept early, and he didn't want to disturb her rest.
He decided to give her the gift tomorrow.
That night, something happened at Harbor Bay.
