Chapter 673 Going Home
Nicholas keeping secrets really got under Caroline's skin.
Caroline thought, 'Aragorn and Nicholas are family; they're tight. When Aragorn wanted to kill me, Nicholas knew and didn't say a word.'
Even though she still had feelings for Nicholas, Caroline couldn't stop her mind from racing.
When Daisy spilled the beans, Caroline acted cool, but inside, she was a mess.
She shut her eyes and went silent, her thoughts all jumbled up.
Nicholas, in a panic, opened his mouth but had no clue what to say.
It hit him hard that he had messed up.
'Should I have told Caroline the truth right away?' Nicholas wondered.
Nicholas was a sharp businessman, always quick on his feet. But with Caroline, he got scared.
He was terrified of losing her again. He never thought that when Caroline found out the truth from Daisy, she'd be this mad.
Downstairs, Sharpe helped Nicholas out of the car. Usually, Caroline would help with the wheelchair, but today she just walked off.
Nicholas urged Sharpe, "Hurry up."
When Sharpe wheeled Nicholas out of the elevator, Daniel was blocking Caroline's door.
"Mr. Watson, you and Caroline aren't married yet. Staying at her place every day isn't good for her reputation." Daniel smiled, but his eyes were icy, and his voice had a sharp edge.
Nicholas's heart sank. Daniel was clearly pissed after finding out what Aragorn had done.
Nicholas pressed his lips together, stayed quiet for a few seconds, then told Sharpe, "Let's head back to Heights Hill Villa."
Watching Nicholas leave, Daniel walked into the house.
"Caroline."
Caroline was on the couch, flipping through channels with the remote.
Daniel sat next to her, letting out a sigh.
"Caroline, if you're feeling down, just let it out. My shoulder's always here for you."
Hearing Daniel's comforting voice, Caroline's sadness overflowed, and she leaned on his broad shoulder.
"Why? Even if Aragorn doesn't like me, why does he want me dead?"
She was filled with self-doubt.
She had faced so many hardships and near-death experiences since she was young, but back then, she was too young to grasp what death meant.
She worked hard to get into college, met Nicholas, and fell in love. He became her light.
But no matter how hard she tried, she still lost Nicholas.
She couldn't understand and thought, 'Is family background really that important? Important enough for Aragorn to want me dead?'
Daniel, with a pained look, gently stroked Caroline's head.
"Aragorn is all about profit. For him, anyone in his way has to go, no matter what."
"People like Aragorn usually don't end well. Caroline, he'll pay for what he did!" Determination flashed in Daniel's eyes.
Aragorn saw the Watson Group as his life, so Daniel would do everything to bring it down.
Caroline cried on Daniel's shoulder. She was always strong and rarely cried, but Daniel was her dad, someone she could lean on.
Right now, Caroline let her guard down completely and opened up to Daniel.
She felt so wronged.
"If Nicholas hadn't thrown himself on me back then, and if Charles hadn't blocked the bullet, either Nicholas or I would've been hurt or worse."
If that had happened, she would've never known her real parents.
Josie would've been left without a mom or dad.
"I'm sorry. I should've found you sooner so you wouldn't have gone through all this."
Caroline's tears soaked half of Daniel's shoulder.
Her eyes were puffy from crying.
Half an hour later, Caroline wiped her tears and noticed Daniel's wet shirt.
"I'm sorry, I..."
"Don't worry about it, I'm your dad. What's a wet shirt?"
As long as Caroline was okay, he didn't care if she soaked all his clothes with her tears.
Daniel was happy because today, Caroline was truly leaning on him as her dad.
Daniel's phone rang; it was Linda.
"Your mom's calling," Daniel said with a smile.
Caroline nodded slightly.
Daniel answered the call.
Linda's angry voice came through, "Daniel, that bastard Aragorn dared to harm our daughter. I'm telling you, you must not let him off. Make him regret it, make him pay. I..."
Linda was fuming.
Daniel cut her off, "I know. I'm with Caroline right now."
Linda paused.
"Wait for me, I'm coming over."
"No, you don't need to come over," Caroline couldn't help but speak up.
Linda heard Caroline's slightly hoarse voice, like she'd been crying.
"Caroline, have you been crying?"
Caroline nodded, "Yeah."
"Caroline, don't cry. We've got your back. We'll make the Watsons pay for this," Linda said fiercely.
Caroline responded and then said, "I want to go back and stay for a few days, is that okay?"
Linda thought she misheard.
"What did you say?"
Daniel quickly explained, "Caroline said she wants to come home for a few days."
Linda's anger instantly vanished, replaced by joy.
"Okay, when are you coming back? I'll have the kitchen whip up something delicious for you."
Caroline said, "I'll pack some things."
"Okay."
Linda was so happy. Lisa was practicing the violin with Josie when Linda suddenly ran over and excitedly kissed Josie.
She had seen the scene at the hospital entrance trending online and felt immense satisfaction when Daisy's disguise was exposed.
But she hadn't expected that Aragorn had once tried to harm Caroline, almost costing her life.
Linda angrily walked to the corner to call Daniel.
Caroline had just returned from abroad, so there wasn't much to pack. She grabbed her suitcase and got in the car with Daniel to head back to The Wolf Mansion.
It was so nice to have parents she could count on when things went wrong.
Caroline was kind of hooked on that feeling.
As soon as she walked in, she was greeted by Linda's warm concern, and during this time, Linda angrily cursed Aragorn a few times.
In the evening, the large study was very quiet. Nicholas sat inside with the lights off.
It wasn't cold today, but Nicholas felt a bit chilly, and the room felt cold too.
Sharpe stood at the door, raising his hand to knock but hesitating.
Since coming back to Heights Hill Villa from Caroline's place, Nicholas had locked himself in the study.
