Chapter 217 Deliberate Pleasing
Jade Wilson arrived bearing a pile of supplements and greeted Madam Blackwood with a worried expression.
"Grandma, how are you feeling?"
"I'm fine; I’m quite good actually." Madam Blackwood smiled gently upon seeing Jade.
"I'm sorry I didn't come to see you sooner."
"It's okay, your thoughtfulness is enough."
Seeing Jade reminded Madam Blackwood of her deceased daughter. Tears were welling up in her eyes, but she held them back.
"Today is Christmas Eve. Can you be discharged, Grandma? Let's spend the evening with my cousin at home."
Colin interjected, "Grandma can't be discharged yet."
Jade said regretfully, "We've prepared a lot of dishes at home."
"It's okay, we will go once Grandma is discharged." Madam Blackwood lovingly patted Jade's hand.
Jade lowered her head, noticing that the beautiful, translucent bracelet Madam Blackwood usually wore was missing. She assumed it was because of the hospital stay and that Madam had put it away.
Next time, when Madam Blackwood was discharged, she would find a way to get the bracelet.
Such a beautiful bracelet would look great on her and surely make others envious.
Jade tried to cheer Madam Blackwood up with kind words. Regardless of what she said, or whether it was funny or not, Madam Blackwood always responded with a squinted smile.
In the middle of their conversation, Jade received a phone call.
"You don't need to keep me company, go have fun with your friends."
"But Grandma..."
"After the holidays, let your cousin take you to M country. You'll have plenty of time to accompany this old woman then."
Jade hesitated. Her friends were planning an outdoor activity tonight, and she really wanted to join. Staying in the hospital was too boring, and she had exhausted all her tricks to entertain Madam Blackwood.
Not insisting further, Jade reluctantly said goodbye to Madam Blackwood and left with her newly bought designer bag.
Madam Blackwood shook her head helplessly.
"She's not my real granddaughter. Her parents are gone, so Jade must have had a hard time in the Wilson Family."
Colin didn't know what to say. His aunt only had one daughter, and no matter what kind of person she had become, the Blackwood family could not ignore her.
Besides, vanity was not a big issue, as long as her character was not too flawed, it could be corrected.
Moreover, the Blackwood family certainly has the means to indulge Jade. Once they arrived in M country, Jade could have whatever her heart desired. He, as her cousin, would also spoil her to prevent her from being bullied.
Jade's awkward attempts to please Madam Blackwood and Colin were obvious, but they attributed it to the fact that they were strangers to Jade who were only connected by blood. This change in identity was forced on her as an adult.
About ten minutes after Jade left, Sophia arrived carrying a thermos lunch box.
"Madam Blackwood, this is a nutritious lunch for you."
Madam Blackwood was pleasantly surprised, "You've gone to a lot of trouble."
"Not at all, it's just something I did along the way." She was also preparing a nutritious meal for Madam Lancaster.
"This is for you, Mr. Colin." Sophia handed another portion of food to Colin.
Colin was surprised; there was a portion for him too?
He had planned to order from the hospital cafeteria.
"I'm on vacation now, and when I have nothing to do, I like to experiment with food. It's the same whether I cook for one person or two, so I did it along the way."
Sophia smiled brightly, revealing six neat teeth.
Every time she saw her, Madam Blackwood felt an urge to get closer.
‘If only Sophia were her real granddaughter.’ Madam Blackwood wished internally.
The meal she made for Madam Blackwood was light, with both meat and vegetables. The lid was opened, and the aroma wafted out and covered the entire ward.
Madam Blackwood tasted a bite and praised it.
"Delicious."
Seeing that Madam Blackwood was satisfied, Colin also ate heartily, leaving Sophia with a sense of accomplishment.
She liked to cook. Initially, she wanted to cook for Gabriel, but Gabriel didn't want to eat her food. Gradually, she began to enjoy cooking for the people around her. Getting their approval gave her a sense of achievement, and she would do even better next time.
Madam Blackwood, who usually had a modest appetite, ate all the food Sophia brought. Colin was a bit worried that his grandma might overeat.
"Madam Blackwood, there's a Christmas dinner tonight. If you can get out of bed, come and walk around to aid in your digestion." Sophia suggested before she left.
There was a Christmas dinner?!
Madam Blackwood was starting to look forward to it.
After Sophia left, Madam Blackwood turned to her grandson.
"Colin, what do you think of Sophia?"
"She's great, kind, hardworking, beautiful, and generous." Colin rarely praised people, and when he did, he usually only used one or two words. Today, however, he had a lot of complimentary things to say about Sophia.
It was clear that he was quite pleased.
"Then you should make an effort. I think she would make a good daughter-in-law for the Blackwood family. Although she's been married and has a child, the Blackwood family wouldn't mind, and you shouldn't either."
Colin nearly choked on his own saliva and was coughing violently for a while. Once he recovered, he quickly waved his hand.
"Grandma, don't jump to conclusions. I do like her, but not in the way a man likes a woman. It's more like... I feel like she's family."
Madam Blackwood had the same feeling, which was why she thought of letting her grandson marry Sophia. If he married her and brought her home, wouldn't she become family?
However, since her grandson had no such intentions, she didn't say anything more.
Sophia went back and rested for an hour, then started preparing Christmas dinner with Caroline.
Today was Christmas Eve, a day for family reunions.
The servants at Lancaster Manor were all on holiday, even Betty went home to reunite with her family.
Around six in the evening, Sophia and Caroline, along with the three children and the prepared food, arrived at the hospital.
Madam Lancaster had specially ordered the room to be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected today. She invited Madam Blackwood over, and the two of them chatted about family matters.
"Great-grandma." The three little ones rushed in like cannonballs, piling into Madam Lancaster's arms. They were careful not to hurt Madam Lancaster.
"Easy, easy." Madam Lancaster patted each of their heads.
The kids were very well-behaved.
Madam Blackwood watched enviously from the side. She admired Madam Lancaster for having such beautiful and well-behaved great-grandchildren. She couldn't help but give Colin a meaningful look, letting him interpret it himself.
Colin didn’t know what to say...
"Uncle Colin." The three kids greeted Colin enthusiastically, and Sam even made a little gesture.
"Hello, you guys."
"Eh, who is this Grandma?" Emma looked at the kind and gentle Madam Blackwood.
"She's also your great-grandma; she's Uncle Colin's grandma." Sophia explained to the children.
Except for Sam, the other two kids sweetly greeted her, "Hello, Great-grandma."
Madam Blackwood smiled and hugged Ethan, who was nearest to her, and then hugged each of the others in turn.
