Chapter 454 Giving You a Taste of Your Own Medicine
Caroline didn't get why Nicholas was telling her all this. She looked at his handsome face and pressed her lips in a thin line.
Nicholas turned to look at her too. Their eyes met, and neither looked away.
Nicholas' voice got deeper. "So, don't doubt Daniel's intentions. He probably just thought of his own daughter and decided to help."
He knew how she felt about Daniel, so he said this to comfort her.
"I get it, thanks," Caroline said, clenching her fist. After a pause, she added, "Josie is staying at the Lancaster family tonight. I'll pick her up first thing in the morning."
"Okay."
As Caroline was about to get in the car, Nicholas called out again.
"Caroline, wait a few more months. I'll prove Daisy's child isn't mine."
Caroline didn't respond. Her hand trembled slightly as she opened the car door, then she got in and drove away.
Even if Nicholas could prove it, so what? The damage was done.
Their issues weren't just about Daisy.
The woman who threw acid was caught and confessed everything to the police.
It had been a mistake.
Her husband had cheated with someone who looked a bit like Caroline from the side. She saw a profile photo and assumed it was Caroline.
She found out that Caroline was playing the violin at the engagement party, snuck in, and acted impulsively.
All the evidence was clear. The woman sincerely repented and begged for forgiveness. Caroline frowned but signed the letter of understanding.
Sophia walked out with Caroline.
"Forgiving her is letting her off too easily!" Sophia said angrily.
"If I didn't, she'd keep begging," Caroline sneered. "I don't buy her story about the photo."
"It must be Daisy!" Sophia guessed. Only Daisy would see Caroline as an enemy.
"I'll look into it," Caroline said, flipping through her contacts.
By that afternoon, Caroline had some information. As suspected, the woman had been bribed by Mia!
Caroline gritted her teeth. The Wolf family still wouldn't leave her alone.
Sophia said, "We can't let this go. They pushed you before, and now they're trying again. The less you fight back, the bolder they get."
Caroline clenched her fist, her veins standing out. "I know."
Sophia said, "I have a plan. We can teach Mia a lesson."
Since Nicholas refused to come home, Daisy whined to the Watson family, saying she was too ashamed to stay. She packed up and went back to the Wolf family.
Now, the Watson family was in despair. Aragorn had a stern expression all day, and Gummidge was walking on eggshells, afraid of upsetting him.
The doctor had warned that Aragorn's health couldn't take any stress.
Gummidge sighed every day. Nicholas wouldn't answer her calls or texts. It felt like he didn't care about his family anymore.
"If you have time to call him, go check on Daisy at the Wolf family. See if she needs anything or just ask how she's feeling. Her pregnancy is still in the early stages, so she can't be stressed," Aragorn said calmly.
Gummidge put down the phone. "I saw Daisy yesterday. She's doing well, and her morning sickness has eased."
"Good," Aragorn said, continuing to read his financial magazine.
Gummidge sighed again, feeling helpless.
Daisy was determined to have this child and was very careful with her diet. Diana's return made Daisy uneasy.
It meant she wouldn't be the only daughter of the Wolf family anymore.
Diana's illness was still a secret, but if she got better, Daniel and Linda would definitely throw a big party to announce it. What would Daisy's status be then?
To show her worth, Daisy went to the hospital with Linda during the day, but Linda often sent her back after an hour.
After dropping Daisy off, Mia went to the beauty salon.
She had a regular monthly appointment for beauty treatments. She used to go with Daisy, but now that Daisy was pregnant and couldn't do these treatments, she went alone.
After her treatment, Mia went to the parking lot. The only sound in the quiet parking lot was her high heels clicking on the ground.
Mia took out her car keys, and suddenly two people appeared, standing by her car. Mia stopped and looked at them warily.
"What do you want?"
Caroline and Sophia each held a cup with a clear liquid inside. They stood there leisurely, with a few traces of a smug smile on their faces.
Mia, feeling guilty, didn't dare to approach. She instinctively thought the liquid in the cups was acid.
She slowly backed away.
"There are cameras here. If you do anything to me, I'll call the police and make sure you spend the rest of your lives in jail."
Sophia and Caroline took a step forward, slowly walking towards Mia.
The parking lot was empty except for the three of them. Mia backed away and turned a corner, ending up against a wall.
"Sorry to tell you, the cameras here are broken. Even if we do something to you, there won't be any evidence," Sophia said coldly, her eyes sending a chill down Mia's spine.
Caroline also stared sharply at Mia. "The woman who tried to throw acid on me at the engagement party was bribed by you, right, Mia? Do you want to experience jail again?"
Caroline's words reminded Mia of her time in jail, and she glared at Caroline.
"You bitch! Because of you, my daughter has suffered so much, and she even almost lost her unborn child. I'm just a mother trying to protect my daughter. If you throw that stuff on me today, if it doesn't kill me, I'll come back and kill you."
"Fine, I've recorded your words. If anything happens to me, it'll be your doing," Caroline said, taking out her phone.
Mia's eyes widened in shock. 'This bitch Caroline is playing dirty.'
"You ordered someone to throw acid on Caroline. Today, we're just giving you a taste of your own medicine. You're old enough not to mind being disfigured, right?" Sophia said, swirling the cup in her hand.
