Chapter 594 Don't Want To

Daniel just stood there, like a statue.

Turns out he wasn't trippin' last time.

His eyes started to get all red as he stared at Caroline, itching to run over and ask her. But nah, he kept his cool.

Now wasn't the right moment.

Caroline finished one piece and jumped right into another.

Daniel chilled out too.

He found a spot to sit and just soaked in Caroline's violin tunes, thinking things over.

Diana had a similar birthmark on her back, and he checked—it was legit.

So, his daughter's birthmark wasn't one-of-a-kind.

To avoid another screw-up, Daniel had to hit up City H again.

He also felt something was off about the whole Diana mix-up. Like, he always felt like someone was watching him, so he had to be extra careful.

To keep Caroline out of any mess.

Daniel kept his excitement on the down-low and focused on Caroline's music, feeling way calmer inside.

Maybe 'cause he saw that birthmark, Daniel felt a stronger connection when he looked at Caroline.

Sophia eyed Daniel suspiciously, thinking, 'Am I trippin'?' She felt like this middle-aged dude had been staring at Caroline.

She frowned a bit.

Gabriel and Colin stood on either side of Sophia, like her personal bodyguards.

After three pieces, Caroline wrapped up her performance for the night.

She packed up her violin, and Rose walked over.

"Thanks for the beautiful music. I was totally mesmerized."

Caroline smiled, "Thanks. You're too kind."

"Let's be Facebook friends!" Rose whipped out her phone and showed her profile.

Rose's straightforwardness impressed Caroline, so she pulled out her phone and added her.

Rose then turned to Sophia, "Can I add you too?"

Sophia sighed.

Both Sophia and Caroline added Rose. Rose raised her glass, "Cheers to me joining you—no, to us becoming friends."

Sophia and Caroline exchanged a look, smiled, and clinked glasses with Rose.

"Caroline," Sophia whispered, "that guy over there has been staring at you."

Caroline glanced over and saw Daniel.

Daniel smiled at her.

Caroline turned back, stone-faced. "He's Daniel, Daisy's uncle."

Sophia thought, 'Someone from the Wolfs!'

Caroline wasn't a fan of the Wolfs, and neither was Sophia.

Gavin came over and took Rose to mingle. Soon, someone came to chat with Colin and Sophia, and Sophia reluctantly kept socializing.

Gabriel stayed quietly by Sophia's side the whole time.

Jake watched from a distance, and Gavin nudged him.

"Aren't you gonna go over?"

Jake replied, "Nah."

It wasn't the time or place to go head-to-head with Gabriel. If he did, it would just make Sophia uncomfortable.

Besides, winning Sophia wasn't urgent right now. Jake thought, 'I'll win her my way!'

Gavin shook his head and went back to entertaining guests with Rose.

Jake sat alone in a corner, gently swirling his wine glass, looking deep in thought, but his eyes were locked on Sophia.

"Miss Clark," Daniel walked over.

Daniel's voice cut through Caroline's snack time. Hearing that, she paused, remembering those two photos.

Nicholas picked up on her vibe and stepped in for her.

"Mr. Wolf, what do you need?"

Daniel started, "I wanted to ask..."

"I wanna go home," Caroline cut him off, talking to Nicholas.

Nicholas nodded, "Alright, let's head home."

He turned to Daniel. "Sorry, Mr. Wolf, Caroline's tired. We're out."

Daniel, feeling a bit lost, said, "Okay."

He felt like Caroline didn't like him.

She seemed even more distant than before.

Daniel wondered, 'Did something go down while I was away?'

Caroline didn't want to see Daniel. Every time she saw him, she thought about the possibility of being a Wolf.

But she didn't want to be part of the Wolfs!

Nicholas asked Sharpe to say goodbye to Gavin, while Caroline quickly pushed him to leave.

Not far away, Mia saw Daniel approaching Caroline, and her heart nearly jumped out of her chest.

Luckily, they didn't chat much before Caroline and Nicholas left.

Mia thought, 'Did Daniel see the birthmark on Caroline's back? He must have.'

Mia was so focused on Linda not seeing it that she forgot about Daniel.

But judging by Daniel's chill expression, it didn't seem like he noticed the birthmark.

Mia was puzzled.

Linda brought Diana over to Daniel.

"Honey, what are you looking at?"

Linda followed Daniel's gaze but saw nothing.

"Nothing, just thinking about work," Daniel said, lowering his eyes and unclenching his hand.

Linda smiled and took Daniel's arm, then signaled Diana to go elsewhere.

Diana didn't dare get too close to Daniel. He seemed friendly, but Diana always felt like he kept people at a distance.

As the engagement party was winding down, Daniel and the others also said their goodbyes.

In the car, Daniel chatted with Linda.

"Caroline's violin performance was really something."

Talking about Caroline, Linda's face changed a bit.

Daniel didn't notice and kept praising Caroline.

"She and Nicholas look great together. And she plays the violin so well, with such grace. Even you can't compare."

He ended with a playful tease.

Linda's face darkened.

"Do you like Caroline?" she asked coldly.

Daniel replied, "I think Caroline is awesome."

He turned his head and finally noticed Linda's angry look.

"What's up?" he asked.

He thought Linda didn't like Caroline because of Daisy. 'But she shouldn't be this mad, right?' he thought.

"Do you know that Diana was almost attacked by thugs because of Caroline?"

"What do you mean?" Daniel frowned.

"That day, Caroline and Diana were having dinner together. When they went for a walk, they ran into some drunk thugs. Caroline broke free first and ran away, leaving Diana alone and scared."

Diana, sitting in the front seat, turned pale.

"Impossible," Daniel snapped, "Caroline's a good kid. She wouldn't do that. There must be a misunderstanding."

Diana weakly spoke up, "It was a misunderstanding, Mom. Please don't blame Caroline anymore. She donated bone marrow to me. She can't be that bad."

Linda said, "It's because she donated bone marrow that she thinks the Wolfs owe her."
