Chapter 17: Cannot Let Them Recognize Each Other.

"But why have you never told me all this?" Sophia's eyes welled up with tears. She had been absent from Sam's life, and Sam had become different from others because he didn't have a mommy.
She was now filled with guilt, feeling that she had failed Sam.
"Sophia, have you forgotten? You were still battling depression and even attempted suicide when you went abroad. If I had told you about this, you would have definitely gone back to Gabriel to claim your child.
Do you think the Lancaster family would be willing to give a child to a mother with depression, and what about Ethan ,and Emma? They would have been taken away from you as well."
Vincent's words hit Sophia like a hammer, reminding her of those painful years.
"I had planned to tell you at the right moment, but I never expected that Gabriel would find you so quickly and bring you back."
"Gabriel has been keeping a close eye on that child all these years. Many times, I tried to find out news about him, but to no avail."
Vincent looked at Sophia, unsure of how she would react. He was afraid that she would blame him, blame him for taking the initiative to separate them as mother and son, blame him for not telling her all this time... Would she break ties with him because of this?
Thinking about all this, Vincent's heart sank.
To be honest, Sophia did feel some anger in her heart, but she also knew that Vincent had done all this for her own good.
If it wasn't for him back then, she wouldn't have had a "rebirth." Her depression wouldn't have been cured so quickly. For her, Vincent was her benefactor.
After so many years of friendship, she knew Vincent quite well. Looking back, there were indeed a few times when Vincent seemed like he wanted to say something important, but in the end, he didn't say anything at all.
It must have been about this matter.
"Vincent, I know you did all this for my own good. I won't blame you."
Vincent was right. When her depression flared up, taking care of two children was already difficult. If she had gone back to Gabriel to fight for her child, she would have probably lost Ethan and Emma as well.
"I'm sorry," Vincent lowered his head. To ease the tension, Sophia stood up.
"I'll cut some fruit. Ethan and Emma will wake up soon."
"Alright."
Seeing that Sophia didn't blame him, Vincent felt relieved.
Finally, this matter had been brought to light, and he no longer had to feel guilty and suppressed.
"Sophia, what are your plans from now on?" Vincent went inside to help.
"I plan to stay in the country and slowly make Sam accept me as his inadequate mommy. Then, I'll find a way to win him over."
Her child, of course, should be raised by her just like Ethan and Emma. If he continued to stay by Gabriel's side, who knew how he would treat the child, especially with Tiffany around.
But for now, she needed to understand the situation with Sam clearly…
In the president's office of the Lancaster Building, Alfred adjusted his glasses and reported to Gabriel with a serious expression, leaving no detail unmentioned.
"Based on our observation this week, the young master's condition has temporarily stabilized. However, he must avoid any further stimulation as it could easily trigger a relapse and lead to more severe consequences."
Gabriel furrowed his brows, emanating a cold and imposing aura. He glanced at Alfred with icy eyes.
"According to your observations, should we prevent Sophia from recognizing him?"
Alfred felt unsettled under Gabriel's sharp gaze. After a momentary pause, he nodded saying, "It would be best not to. In the young master's mind, his mother is already deceased.
If she abruptly appears, it would not only be futile, but it could also worsen his condition, making him feel that his own mother is alive but unwilling to acknowledge him."
If that's the case, why did he go to such great lengths to bring Sophia back?
Sam's illness was triggered by Sophia. He believed that bringing her back would benefit Sam, but instead, it only aggravated his condition. Gabriel waved his hand irritably.
Alfred silently stepped back and left.
Five minutes later, Tiffany entered with a cup of tea. She gently placed the cup down and stood behind Gabriel, massaging his shoulders.
Today, she had applied a special fragrance that, when close to Gabriel, would create a sense of tranquility and decrease any internal turmoil he felt.
"No need to continue," Gabriel spoke in a calm tone.
Tiffany had no choice but to stop.
"Have some tea. I brewed it specifically for you to warm your stomach." Tiffany's voice was gentle and affectionate. Seeing Gabriel's furrowed brows, she comforted him, "Don't worry too much. Sam is still young. When he grows a little older and becomes more understanding, he will be willing to speak.
Alfred is a renowned child psychologist with numerous successful cases, and he will definitely succeed in curing Sam this time as well."
Gabriel tightly pursed his thin lips and remained silent. His profound eyes were like ancient wells, making it difficult for others to fathom his thoughts.
"You have a meeting later. Today, I'll pick up Sam for you."
"Mhmm," Gabriel responded.
His busy schedule often prevented him from taking care of his son. Tiffany always took the initiative to share the burden, for which he was very grateful.
Before leaving, he considerately added, "Thank you for your hard work."
Tiffany turned around, her face filled with both gratitude and affection. "It's not hard for me to do things for you. Besides, Sam will eventually become my son too."
Gabriel nodded, then turned his attention to the documents in front of him.
Tiffany gracefully walked out, and upon seeing the secretaries outside, she lifted her head, straightened her posture, and had a smile of happiness on her face as she walked away with a swaying gait.
As she left, two people gathered together and began whispering to each other.
"Miss Foster is so fortunate, she doesn't have to do any work, just needs to accompany the boss."
"Tsk, it's been so many years and they still haven't gotten married. Who knows how much longer she can accompany him."
"You're jealous."
"Yes, I'm jealous. I just can't stand Tiffany's superior attitude."
"Alright, don't let her hear you."
They murmured for a while and then dispersed. Tiffany didn't hear any of it, she sat in the car admiring her exquisite makeup, not in a hurry to pick up Sam from kindergarten.
After all, he's not her own son, let him wait a little.
...
Sophia waited anxiously outside the kindergarten, as the dismissal time approached, parents gradually started to pick up their children and leave. She didn't have the pick-up card, so she couldn't go in, she could only wait outside hoping to see Sam.
But almost everyone had left and Sam still hadn't come out.
Could it be that no one came to pick him up?
Is this how Gabriel takes care of children?
Sophia's anger built up inside her, just as she was about to approach the security guard to inquire about the situation and see if she could make an exception to go in and find Sam, she saw a teacher appearing with two children, one of them being Sam.
The teacher handed the two children over to another teacher, gave some instructions, and then left.
"Sam, Jackson, you can play here for a while until your family comes to pick you up."
Jackson responded loudly and crisply, "Okay, teacher, I'll behave."
The teacher affectionately patted Jackson's head, saying, "Such a well-behaved child."
But when faced with Sam, she sighed and said nothing. The situation of this child is known to all the teachers at the kindergarten, he had to be treated differently. However, this child is intelligent, he must have understood her words.
