Chapter 450 Always There
Daniel said, "We're Diana's real parents. We just found her, and I won't let her suffer. I'll arrange everything and get her to Country M for treatment.
"If she needs a bone marrow transplant, I'll do whatever it takes to find a match."
Declan and his wife stood up. "We've already found a match in the registry, but Diana's condition wasn't right for surgery, so we didn't contact her."
Daniel asked, "Who is it? Give me the info."
"Her name is Caroline Clark."
"Caroline?" Linda's eyes lit up, then she frowned and glanced at Daisy.
Daisy's expression changed, and she stayed silent.
No one noticed Mia's gloomy face as she looked down. Things were going off track, and she needed to fix it.
Gabriel had been bedridden for days but had finally gotten up. Sophia had been taking great care of him, arriving early and leaving late every day.
After the doctor said he could walk, Gabriel had Sophia help him up.
Sophia rolled her eyes. "Your legs are fine."
Gabriel said, "But my internal organs aren't. I haven't walked in days, so my legs are weak too."
He looked at her pitifully, eyes pleading.
Gabriel had been using this look to get her to feed him and give him attention.
Sophia thought, 'Forget it, he got hurt because of me.'
She helped Gabriel out of bed. As soon as he touched the ground, he leaned heavily on Sophia, almost crushing her.
He wrapped one arm around her shoulder and held her hand on his waist. "Hold on tight. If I fall, it's your fault."
Sophia glared and pinched his waist. Gabriel yelped but smiled.
Sophia helped him walk out of the room. Gabriel's grip tightened, making it look like he was hugging her.
Betty had just left the ward and saw them. She was stunned, then quickly went back inside and whispered to Ruth, "Guess what I just saw."
"What? You seem so happy." Ruth was curious.
"I saw Mr. Lancaster and Ms. Kelly hugging."
"What?" Ruth was overjoyed. "Are you sure?"
"Absolutely. If you don't believe me, come take a look with me."
"Alright, let's follow them, but don't let them notice."
Betty helped Ruth into a wheelchair, and they quietly left the ward. After asking a bodyguard, they learned Sophia and Gabriel went to the garden, so Betty quickly pushed Ruth there.
There weren't many people in the garden. Most patients who could walk around only came out in the evening.
The sun was gentle and felt warm with the autumn breeze.
After about ten minutes, Sophia, worried about Gabriel, helped him sit on a stone bench. "Let's sit for a while. Are you thirsty?" Sophia asked.
Gabriel smiled, feeling very happy.
Being cared for by Sophia made Gabriel really happy.
He suddenly remembered a time during their marriage when he worked overtime for days and got a fever. She took care of him just as meticulously back then, but he didn't appreciate it and only thanked her afterward.
Thinking about it, Gabriel felt like slapping himself. He had been such a jerk, not realizing Sophia's true feelings. Ruth had beenright to scold him.
Gabriel shook his head. "I'm not thirsty. Come and sit with me."
He pulled Sophia to sit beside him and leaned against her.
"Sophie."
"What?" Sophia was watching a middle-aged couple nearby. The woman, in a wheelchair, was scolding the man, who kept coaxing her gently.
Gabriel noticed Sophia staring and followed her gaze. The man fed the woman some water, and she finally stopped scolding him. Then he pushed her away.
"Are you envious?" Gabriel asked with a hint of amusement.
Sophia snapped back to reality. "I used to be, but not anymore."
"Why not now?" he asked.
"Because I no longer have any expectations."
Gabriel felt a pang in his heart. He grasped Sophia's hand, looking at her with sincere, determined eyes. "Sophia, as long as you want me to be, I'll always be here."
Sophia looked at him, her heart slightly moved. She used to think Gabriel was so dreamy. She used to envy other couples and wanted to be happy with him. But in the end, her true feelings were scattered like sand by him. Their marriage ended with her near-death from childbirth.
Sophia slowly withdrew her hand, stood up, and didn't respond to his words. "Do you still want to walk?"
"Yes!" he said.
Gabriel let her support him again, but this time she held his arm instead of allowing him to hug her.
On the way back, a nurse pushed a bloodied person past them.
"Move aside, make way."
Gabriel quickly pulled Sophia to his side. She bumped into his chest, her forehead hitting him.
"Are you okay?" They both asked at the same time.
"I'm fine," they both responded simultaneously.
Sophia was stunned for a couple of seconds, then quickly stepped back, her cheeks slightly blushing.
Gabriel took her hand again. "Let's go."
"You're already better, and you still want me to support you," Sophia complained softly.
Gabriel sighed inwardly. 'She has seen through me.'
His injuries had indeed improved a lot. He had been pretending to be weaker to get more of Sophia's care. In his haste, he had forgotten to keep up the act, and she had noticed.
Sophia gently shook Gabriel off and walked straight to the inpatient department. Gabriel followed helplessly behind.
"After this, Mr. Lancaster and Ms. Kelly's relationship seem to have improved," Betty smiled.
Ruth also smiled. "Sophie loved deeply back then; now it's Gabriel's turn."
Before entering the hospital room, Sophia saw a message from Caroline, and her expression changed.
