Chapter 159: The Dramatic Encounter

Early the next morning, after Gabriel and Sam had both left, Betty put on a thick down jacket and a gray Kelly scarf. She called the driver, Lao Song, to go to the downtown hospital in City B.

The downtown hospital in City B had top-notch testing facilities. Betty had analyzed it well, and Mrs. Lancaster would surely choose the best testing facility in the city. That's why she had arrived early and was waiting here.

Caroline recognized Betty as she got out of the car, following her given license plate number.

Betty asked Lao Song to wait in the car while she went into the hospital with her hair sample.

Caroline wore a beret and her long coat made her look even more slender, with an outstanding temperament. She looked around and then pretended to be going for a doctor's appointment, following Betty directly to the testing area.

"Oops, sorry."

After all, Caroline was sneaking in to switch the samples, so she felt a little guilty. She walked with her head down, accidentally bumping into a passerby. Caroline quickly apologized.

"Wait a minute." The person called after her, and their voice, Scarlett, sounded somewhat familiar to Caroline.

Caroline turned around.

The person's voice called out in an astonished tone, "Caroline!"

Caroline looked up and saw a heavily made-up face, and no matter how different the appearance, she could recognize that face at a glance.

For a moment, Caroline couldn't describe her emotions.

"What's wrong?"

Before she could react, a hoarse and magnetic voice came from Scarlett, freezing her in place, her hand clenched tightly.

"Will, I saw Caroline."

The man, who was called Will, had a momentary change in his expression, but quickly regained his emotionless face at an astonishing speed.

Caroline turned to leave, but her hand was suddenly grabbed by someone.

"Caroline!" Scarlett held onto Caroline excitedly, wanting to catch up with her. "When did you come back? Why didn't you contact me? Do you know..."

Caroline felt extremely annoyed, and this annoyance rose to her head, causing a splitting headache. She furrowed her brows tightly, and her voice turned icy cold.

"You've mistaken me."

"I can't be mistaken, Caroline. It's you. You've been gone for so many years, and I..."

"Let go."

Caroline shook off Scarlett’s grip. It wasn't a strong force, but she stumbled and almost fell, finally landing in Will embrace.

Scarlett quickly panicked and scrambled to get up.

"Will, did I make a mistake?"

"Does it hurt? I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you."

Caroline lifted her leg, intending to leave.
She thought that it would be impossible to encounter them when she returned to her home country.

With the city being so big and her social circle being small, as long as she didn't interact with that circle, she wouldn't run into them.

But unexpectedly, fate played out in such a dramatic way.

Just by coming to the hospital to take care of some business, she ended up meeting them.

"Stop." The man's voice, carried a strong sense of intimidation, an oppression felt by someone in a superior position, making it impossible to resist.

Caroline furrowed her brows and stopped in her tracks.

"Apologize."

The man's icy voice, came again.

Caroline had a sudden bad feeling, why was it colder inside than outside?

Scarlett generously said, "No need, I believe Caroline didn't mean to. Caroline, how long will you stay this time?"
Scarlett approached and continued to exchange pleasantries with Caroline, as if they were close friends who had known each other for many years.

But they were indeed old friends, friends who had fallen out.

Caroline knew that she couldn't avoid them any longer. She took a deep breath, closed her eyes, turned around, and opened her mouth, but when she saw the man she remembered, who used to be as noble as a prince, sitting in a wheelchair, all the words got stuck in her throat.

How did he become like this?

His once profound facial features were now covered in a layer of frost, his aura becoming even colder.

"Apologize!" He emphasized these words again.

The once gentle and smiling eyes now resembled two dry wells, deep and cold.
It took Caroline a while to regain her breath.
No matter what this man has become, it has nothing to do with her.
She had to quickly get away from these two people.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to just now. I hope you can forgive me," Caroline apologized sincerely to Scarlett
Scarlett quickly said, "It's alright, it's alright, Caroline, you..."

"I have something else to do, so I'll leave first."

"Hey, Caroline..."

Caroline swiftly walked away, and from her back, she seemed to be running away in despair.
She had known they were together, right?
Caroline, why are you still grieving?

After turning a corner, Caroline saw the back door. She could leave from here, which happened to be the small garden behind the inpatient department. Tears fell uncontrollably from her eyes.

She didn't mean to cry; she just carelessly thought of the past, of her wasted youth, and her emotions inexplicably overwhelmed her.

"Will, I don't know what business Caroline has come back to China for. It's been a long time since we last saw each other."

"She's changed a lot, hasn't she?" Scarlett pushed Will towards the doctor's office. Her eyes flickered, and she couldn't figure out what she was thinking.

Seeing Caroline at the hospital today was beyond her expectations.

It had been six years, six years since Caroline went abroad. She had no idea how Caroline had been living overseas, and no one had the mood to care. Seeing Caroline today, her appearance, her manners, her temperament, everything about her was different from six years ago.

"Will , I will find out where Caroline is living tomorrow."

Will remained cold as ever. "If you want to reconcile with her, that's your business. But you better not bring her in front of me."

As he spoke, there was no hiding the disgust in his eyes.

Scarlett’s skipped a beat and she lowered her head. "I understand. I just wanted to check if she's doing well. After all, she..."

"Shut up!"

Scarlett’s expression changed. "I'm sorry, I won't say anything else."

Will walked in with an air of hostility, startling even the doctor, who thought there might be a medical emergency .

After a while, the two came out of the doctor's office and returned to the hospital room. A pale young girl was lying on the hospital bed, hooked up to an IV.

Will's assistant was guarding here and stood up immediately upon their return.

The little girl woke up and saw her parents. She softly called out, "Daddy, Mommy."

Seeing his daughter, Will's icy expression softened slightly, and there was a hint of tenderness in his eyebrows and eyes.

"Josie , are you feeling better?" Scarlett walked over, the image of a virtuous wife and loving mother, and hugged Josie, the little girl, showing her motherly care by gently kissing her forehead.

...

Emma was waiting at the kindergarten for her godmother to come back. Finally, when they were about to have lunch, Caroline returned.

Emma immediately grabbed Caroline's hand and pulled her aside.

"Godmother, is everything done?"

Sam watched from afar and felt like Emma and Teacher Caroline were up to something important. Emma held hands with Caroline and followed her to have lunch .

"I'm sorry, sweetheart, I didn't succeed."

Emma's heart sank.

How could it not have worked?

She wanted to ask for more details, but when she looked up and saw her godmother's slightly swollen eyes, her expression froze.
