Chapter 475 For You
Caroline nodded.
The room went quiet. Melissa looked at Caroline and sighed. "Are you two back together?"
Caroline shook her head. "No."
"I can tell Nicholas still cares about you," Melissa paused, realizing she might've said too much. After a moment, she continued, "I recommended you to the school because Nicholas asked me to."
Caroline looked shocked.
Melissa's voice softened. "He felt bad seeing you so worn out from all those gigs, working hard for so little."
"My recommendation helped, but what really got you the mentor job was Nicholas' $50 million donation."
Caroline was speechless, her mind racing.
Melissa stood up, gently patting Caroline's shoulder. "I don't get young people's feelings, but a guy willing to drop $50 million for your future is something. Think about it."
When Caroline snapped out of it, Melissa had already left the office.
She quickly left too.
Caroline was deeply affected. On her way home, her thoughts were all over the place, and her heart was pounding.
When she got to her neighborhood and parked, she saw Nicholas.
Caroline froze.
They stood about 25 feet apart, and Caroline looked at Nicholas with a complicated expression.
Nicholas raised an eyebrow. 'Why is she looking at me like that? Did something happen?'
His brows furrowed, and he quickly maneuvered his wheelchair towards Caroline.
As he moved, Caroline walked over to push his wheelchair.
"Where's Sharpe?" she asked.
"Running an errand." Nicholas asked, "Did something happen to you?"
"No."
Nicholas frowned deeper.
She wouldn't tell him.
They got in the elevator, and Caroline tried to calm down. "Have you eaten?"
Nicholas' fingers twitched. "No."
"Lisa made chicken soup today."
Was she inviting him to dinner?
Nicholas felt a bit excited.
He didn't dare ask, so he just said, "Okay."
When the elevator arrived, Caroline pushed him inside.
Lisa saw Nicholas and wasn't surprised, but she was surprised that Caroline was pushing him.
"Lisa, please set an extra place."
Lisa replied, "Okay."
"Dad, Mom." Josie ran over, hugging Caroline first, then Nicholas.
Nicholas picked Josie up and put her on his lap, and they whispered for a while.
A few minutes later, the family sat at the dining table, and Lisa served soup to Nicholas and Caroline.
Josie was especially excited; her parents were eating with her again.
The last time Nicholas stayed for dinner was to make Josie happy. This was the first time Caroline had asked him to stay.
Nicholas was so happy he drank two bowls of soup in one go.
He felt that Caroline was a bit different today.
After dinner, Caroline checked Josie's homework and then went upstairs with her to practice the violin.
Nicholas stayed downstairs. Listening to the violin, he felt content.
How wonderful it would be if things could always be like this.
Caroline didn't ask him to leave, so he stayed. Lisa poured him a cup of coffee and then went to her room.
Nicholas took out his phone to handle work emails.
Usually, he enjoyed the quiet, being alone with his thoughts.
But now, with the violin sounds around him, it felt comforting. Even the off-key notes sounded like music to his ears.
After an hour of practice, Josie came downstairs and saw Nicholas still there. She ran over excitedly. "Dad, did you hear me practicing?"
"Yes, I did."
"Did I play well?"
Nicholas smiled and playfully tapped her nose. "Compared to your mom, you still have a way to go."
Josie grinned. "Mom is amazing. I'll surpass her one day."
"Good."
"Dad, I'm going to bed now. Goodnight."
"Goodnight."
Josie insisted on doing her bedtime routine alone. She took a bath, dried her hair, and went to bed by herself.
She was used to doing this at The Watson Mansion, but Caroline usually helped her with these things.
Emma had suggested giving her parents more alone time.
In the living room, Caroline and Nicholas sat in silence.
Nicholas looked at Caroline and said, "Don't let some people's words get to you."
He had just asked Sharpe to investigate what happened at school. Someone was spreading rumors that Caroline got in through connections.
She had a lot of pride and must have been hurt by this.
Caroline was taken aback but nodded.
"Want to watch TV?" She tried to break the silence.
"Sure."
Nicholas didn't usually watch TV, but he wanted to spend more time with her.
Caroline picked up the remote and turned on the TV.
Immediately, a couple was passionately kissing on the screen.
Caroline almost dropped the remote.
Luckily, the couple quickly separated, but their loving gazes...
Caroline felt a burning gaze on her.
She quickly changed the channel.
'What kind of romance drama starts off so intense?' she thought.
The next channel was the weather forecast.
Watching the weather forecast was fine.
Nicholas's gaze remained intense.
Caroline sat upright, not daring to move, her heart pounding.
The weather forecast ended, and Caroline yawned.
Nicholas's eyes softened. "It's getting late. You should rest."
He turned his wheelchair.
"Are you going back alone?"
"Yes, Sharpe can't come."
Caroline frowned slightly. "I'll take you downstairs."
Nicholas was pleasantly surprised. "Okay."
The driver was already waiting downstairs. As they exited the elevator, Caroline looked at Nicholas.
"Nicholas."
"What?"
"How many months pregnant is Daisy?"
Nicholas's heart tightened, and his hand clenched. He took a deep breath and answered after a moment, "I don't know."
He really didn't know because it wasn't his child. He didn't need to spend time understanding that.
He wouldn't even think about it.
Caroline asked because she wanted to know if the child Daisy was carrying was Nicholas's.
Previously, she thought it didn't matter whether it was or not.
But now she realized it was very important.
Melissa's words had made her realize something. She hadn't thought it through, but she suddenly wanted to know if Nicholas was telling the truth.
Nicholas looked at her uneasily, with a hint of pleading. "Wait a little longer, Caroline. Can you wait a little longer for me? I will prove to you that I never had any relationship with Daisy."
"Okay," she replied.
