Chapter 620 Delivering Items
'Diana and Mia?' Caroline thought to herself, feeling a bit uneasy.
Caroline clutched her phone tightly, her mind racing.
'Is Diana still hanging with the Wolfs? Linda's super protective of her; they must be tight by now,' she mused, feeling a pang of jealousy.
But then, thinking about Mia, she got worried about Daniel and Linda. 'Last time, Mia almost got Daniel killed. If Diana teams up with Mia, could it be trouble for them?' Caroline wondered.
Mia had been totally booted from the high society scene. She went to the party all happy but left in total disgrace.
As soon as she got home, she went on a rampage, smashing everything in sight.
Then she called Diana.
Diana didn't pick up at first. It wasn't until the third call that she finally answered.
As soon as the call connected, Mia exploded, "Diana, you bitch! What the hell was that? You promised to help me, but then you just laughed with those people and ignored me, right?"
Diana weakly replied, "I didn't, I just couldn't find a chance."
Mia gritted her teeth. "Don't forget about your adoptive parents. I can ruin their lives anytime!"
Diana went silent, biting her lip, her face pale, and her hatred for Mia growing.
"Then I'll spill that you deliberately lost Caroline. At worst, we'll both go down!"
Mia suddenly regretted telling Diana the truth that day, realizing it gave Diana leverage.
Her tone softened, "As long as you remember our deal, I won't harm them."
"Linda isn't giving you much cash now, right? If you need money, you can come to me."
Diana coldly replied, "Not for now, I'm hanging up."
And with that, Diana hung up the phone.
She felt completely drained, collapsing onto the bed.
Every day was torture now. Every night, she dreamed of her adoptive parents getting into trouble and Linda being disappointed in her.
In the evening, Diana prepped some fruit for Daniel.
When she got to the study door, she found it slightly open. She raised her hand, about to knock.
"Yeah, I think Mia was involved in Caroline getting kidnapped by those traffickers back then."
Diana froze, standing quietly at the door, listening to Daniel's voice inside.
Daniel was on the phone with Nicholas.
After hearing Daniel's words, Nicholas shared his thoughts.
"We can confirm Mia colluded with the traffickers to kidnap Caroline, but we don't have enough evidence to nail her."
The study was dimly lit, with just a desk lamp on. When Daniel turned around, he noticed a shadow blocking the light coming through the door.
'Someone's at the door!' Daniel thought, alarmed.
He ruled out the possibilities one by one. 'It couldn't be Linda; she always knocks and comes in directly. It couldn't be Clayton either; he's been coming home late recently. Nor could it be a servant; they wouldn't dare eavesdrop. So it has to be Diana.'
"I've already found some evidence on my end. How about you?"
Nicholas raised an eyebrow at Daniel's words.
He got the hint and stayed silent.
Daniel deliberately raised his voice.
"Great, with this evidence, we can definitely expose all of Mia's dirty deeds."
The shadow vanished in a flash. Daniel slowly walked over and shut the door tight, then explained to Nicholas on the phone.
"Someone was eavesdropping just now."
"Who?"
"Diana."
Nicholas asked, "You think she's in cahoots with Mia?"
"Yeah."
Daniel said this on purpose to test Diana, wondering, 'When she heard I had evidence, would she run to tell Mia? Would Mia make a move again?'
If they could spook Mia into acting, they might finally catch her and bring her down for good.
He could sue Mia for bribing Ivan to hurt him, but Mia would never admit to kidnapping Caroline.
Nicholas continued, "I've tracked down Jared's whereabouts. Interpol's on his tail now."
As long as they nabbed Jared, Mia would have no way out.
Diana put the fruit back in the kitchen and went to her room.
She clutched her wildly beating chest and thought, 'Does Daniel really have evidence? Does that mean Mia's about to get what she deserves?'
Diana looked at the nightstand, where two photo frames sat. One was a family photo with the Wolfs, and the other was a photo with her adoptive parents.
She picked up the photo with her adoptive parents.
"Dad, Mom, I will definitely protect you."
On the back was a photo of Paul.
It was a pic she found on Paul's Facebook and had printed out.
"Paul," Diana whispered Paul's name sadly.
Diana didn't tell Mia what she had overheard, pretending she didn't know a thing.
The next day, Linda caught Clayton, who was about to dash out, and shoved a bunch of stuff into his hands.
"Mom, what are you doing? I don't need all this at school." Clayton was caught off guard by Linda's sudden fussing.
Linda casually said, "These aren't for you."
Linda's words totally killed Clayton's buzz.
Linda said, "These are for Caroline. Drop them off for her at school."
She pointed to a thermos. "This is some nutritious soup I had the chef make early this morning. These are snacks the pastry chef made yesterday. I didn't know what she likes, so I had them make a variety."
Clayton pouted. "Got it."
"And don't eat them on the way."
Clayton felt like his heart was bleeding.
He could never hold a candle to Caroline in his family’s eyes.
But thinking that Caroline was his sister, Clayton somehow felt the imbalance and jealousy in his heart fade away.
Caroline had suffered so much and endured so many grievances. 'Daniel and Linda should pamper her a bit more,' Clayton thought.
He had even bullied her before, so he had to make it up to her.
With this thought, Clayton felt completely at ease and willingly helped Linda take things to Caroline.
When Caroline arrived at work, she saw a pile of stuff on her desk and asked, "Wesley, whose are these?"
"Yours," Wesley blinked. "Clayton just brought them over. He said his mom specifically had the chef make them for you and that you should eat the nutritious soup quickly, or it won't taste good."
Wesley enviously leaned over and asked, "Why did Clayton suddenly bring you food?"
Caroline thought for a moment and said, "Clayton is my newly recognized brother."
Wesley thought they were close and didn't think much of it. Looking at the food, the faint aroma was very tempting.
"Smells so good. Miss Clark, can I share?"
Caroline agreed, "Sure."
