Chapter 668 Picking Up Trevor
"Mr. Watson, we're sure Daisy didn't get close to any guy during that time," Sharpe said, giving Nicholas the lowdown on the investigation again.
Nicholas's eyes drifted over to Charles in the hospital room.
Someone had already reached out to Daisy, offering to help her sue Trevor's biological dad, Nicholas, but she turned them down.
Seeing the internet blow up in her favor, Daisy felt a lot more relaxed.
"I don't think you can stay happy for long!" she muttered. She was determined to make sure Caroline and Nicholas wouldn't have a good life while she and Trevor were stuck in misery.
Caroline also saw the online chatter, along with messages from Daniel, Linda, and Clayton.
Daniel: [Caroline, don't stress. I got this. Those fake accounts are toast!]
Linda: [Caroline, ignore the online drama. Daisy's just using the kid for attention. It's sad, really.]
Clayton: [Caroline, someone at school talked trash about you, so I gave them a piece of my mind.]
Caroline felt a warm glow as she held her phone, her palms a bit sweaty. She started typing out her replies.
Caroline thought, 'Daisy's playing the victim card to get sympathy and make the public go after Nicholas, hoping he'll cave and admit Trevor's his kid? If that's her plan, it's pretty weak. Blood ties aren't that easy to fake.'
Even knowing this, the online hate still got to her. The insults aimed at her and Nicholas were brutal.
Nicholas wheeled himself over. "I think I know who Trevor's dad is."
Caroline looked up, surprised. "Who?"
Meanwhile, Daisy was at home, feeling smug as she posted more sympathy-seeking photos and texts. Trevor's lips were purple, and he was crying weakly, not as loudly as before. But Daisy didn't notice, too busy soaking up the sympathy and replying to comforting messages.
The doorbell rang, and after a while, Daisy finally got up to answer it.
"Who is it?" she asked, annoyed. She opened the door and saw Paul, immediately looking behind him.
"Where's Nicholas?"
Paul replied coldly, "Nicholas sent me to pick up Trevor."
Daisy got even more excited. "Has Nicholas finally accepted Trevor? Why can't he come to pick us up himself?"
She ignored the fact that Paul didn't mention picking her up.
Paul was almost disgusted by Daisy's shamelessness. He rolled his eyes. "Didn't you hear me? I'm here to pick up Trevor, not you."
Daisy's face fell. "Why can't you take both of us? I'm Trevor's mom; I need to be with him! If you can't take me, then you can't take Trevor!"
Trevor was her bargaining chip. Keeping him close was her only way back to Nicholas.
Paul couldn't deal with Daisy's craziness. He pushed her aside and walked in.
Seeing how weak Trevor was, Paul was furious. "Daisy, you don't deserve to be a mom. Trevor's in this state, and you haven't taken him to the hospital. You're too busy taking photos for sympathy!"
Paul finally saw how selfish and vicious Daisy really was. Without another word, he picked up Trevor.
"Let go of my child! Don't take my child away," Daisy yelled, trying to grab Trevor back.
Paul had brought bodyguards. Two of them held Daisy back while Paul carefully carried Trevor away.
Trevor was already foaming at the mouth, but Daisy was too wrapped up in her schemes to notice. She just saw him as a pawn.
Paul was shaking with anger.
Half an hour later, at the hospital, the doctor looked seriously concerned.
"This child hasn't been properly cared for, and his condition has worsened. Regular meds won't cut it, and stronger ones are too much for a kid this small."
Paul, anxious, asked, "So what do we do? Just let him die?"
Trevor was so young and looked so pitiful. Even if he wasn't Nicholas's son, he was still a little life.
'That vicious woman, Daisy!' Paul cursed inwardly.
"The child's condition is temporarily stabilized," a female doctor said, holding Trevor as she walked over.
Paul looked up and found the female doctor somewhat familiar.
He couldn't dwell on it and asked again, "You haven't said what we should do."
When Paul got anxious, his expression turned a bit fierce.
The female doctor couldn't help but look at Paul, then froze for a moment.
'It's him!' she thought.
"The only solution now is a heart transplant, but the child is too young. Even if we find a matching heart, there could be complications during surgery, and post-surgery rejection is also very dangerous."
The doctor said a lot, and Paul summed it up: even if Trevor had the surgery, the chances of it working were really slim.
"Christina, please handle the admission procedures for them."
The female doctor, Christina, nodded and said to Paul, "Follow me."
'It seems he doesn't recognize me? That’s for the best,' Christina mused, feeling relieved.
Feeling guilty for once kicking Paul due to a misunderstanding, Christina did her best to help with Trevor's admission procedures. She also took them to the children's ward, thoughtfully spoke to the nurses, and gave Paul some extra instructions.
"If there are any issues the nurses can't solve, you can come to me."
Paul found Christina's service overly attentive and thorough.
He wondered, 'And her gaze seems a bit odd? Could she be interested in me?'
Christina noticed Paul seemed tired and thought he must be exhausted from worrying about Trevor's condition, so she comforted him.
"Don't worry too much. Although your son's condition is serious, it's not entirely untreatable. As the child's father, you must stay positive and optimistic."
The more Paul listened, the more something felt off. "Wait, my son?"
Christina looked puzzled. "Is there something wrong?"
"He..."
"Miss Mitchell," a nurse interrupted, pushing a cart into the room.
Christina nodded, "Make sure to give the child formula to supplement his nutrition. I have other things to attend to, so I'll be leaving. If you have any questions, you can find me in my office."
With that, Christina put her hands in the pockets of her white coat and walked away.
Paul was silent.
He screamed in his heart, 'I ain't Trevor's father. If Daisy finds out the doctor misunderstood, she might falsely accuse me of being Trevor's dad!'
