Chapter 49 Unexpected Joy
After Sophia finished delivering the documents, it was almost time to go home.. All the elevators were occupied, and she didn't want to wait for a long time, so she decided to take the stairs down from the fifth floor.
To her surprise, she bumped into Sam.
"Sam, we meet again," Sophia said with joy on her face. She wanted to get closer, but the bodyguard immediately stood guard, staring at Sophia with a warning in his eyes. Worried that she might scare Sam, Sophia approached him cautiously.
"I've learned a few more hand gestures recently. Can you see if I'm doing them correctly?" she said, demonstrating sign language with her hands. It was still clumsy, but better than the last time, Sam thought to himself.
"So, what do you think?" Sophia asked.
Sam didn't say anything, but due to their previous interaction, he was more willing to be close to Sophia. He gestured to David, saying, "Don't worry, she won't harm me." David didn’t believe it. Sam put on a serious face and David immediately backed off and stood silently to the side.
Sophia happily skipped over. “Can I talk to you in private for a moment?” she asked again.
Sam nodded and took the lead down the stairs. David hesitated, unsure whether to follow or not. After a second thought, since they were in the boss’s company, nothing should go wrong. He obediently stayed where he was.
It took two more floors for Sophia and Sam to stop.
"Sam, have you missed me?" Sophia's smile grew brighter. Sam did not respond, but there was a hint of sparkle in his beautiful eyes compared to the last time she saw him
"Can I hug you?" Sophia asked. Sam hesitated for a moment, then nodded. Sophia gently embraced Sam, feeling immensely excited.
This was the second time she had hugged him, it had been a while since she last saw him and she missed him every day.
Perhaps sensing Sophia's excitement, Sam's emotions were also stirred up. He slowly stretched out his small hand and hugged Sophia's neck. Sam’s reaction almost brought tears of joy to Sophia’s eyes. “Sam, I am sorry,” she could not help herself and a tear fell on Sam’s shoulder.”
Sam was puzzled. Why was she apologizing?
"Sam, if you're not happy in the future, tell Auntie, okay? If someone bullies you, tell Auntie too. Auntie will protect you."
Sam released Sophia and gently pushed her away, leaving her no choice but to let go reluctantly. He gestured, asking, “Why are you so good to me?”
Sophia had been learning sign language in her spare time. Although she wasn't fluent yet, she could still understand most of it through guesswork. “I will tell you the answer to this question when you are willing to confide in Auntie about your feelings, can we exchange secrets then, okay?
Sam didn't ask further.
Afraid that he might have some thoughts about not wanting her near him anymore, Sophia quickly added, "For now, you just need to know that I love you very much, even more than your father."
Sam became even more curious, with his round and bright eyes wide open.
Sophia was afraid that she couldn't resist telling him that she was his mommy.
She quickly hugged Sam again and said, "Let Auntie hug you some more."
Sam stayed still without resisting.
In fact, he quite enjoyed being hugged by her. She had a warm feeling, and he liked it a lot.
Ethan, secretly amazed, watched the heartwarming scene between mommy and Sam. Why was mommy so gentle with Sam, even saying that she loved him more than his daddy?
He had seen mommy being gentle but distant with kids from other families, but it wasn't the same with Sam.
Humph, it's almost more than the attention she gives to Emma.
Ethan furrowed his delicate brows, pondering: was mommy just feeling sorry for Sam?
Vaguely, he felt that there was something similar between Sam and mommy.
Sophia didn't want to leave Sam, but the bodyguard would surely come looking if they stayed for too long. If Gabriel found out, that scumbag would find a way to stop them.
To avoid this trouble, Sophia whispered in Sam's ear, "If you want to see me in the future, you can come to the design department at the company."
Sam neither nodded nor shook his head, but then he heard David's voice.
Reluctantly, Sophia watched Sam leave.
Wait, just wait a little longer, Sam. Mommy will definitely make you happy.
...
After Emma finally managed to send Larry away, she sneaked back to the general manager's office. However, she didn't see Ethan and Sam there, but instead encountered a handsome uncle.
The two stared at each other in surprise.
"Whose child are you?" Gabriel's sternness dissipated halfway when facing the child. Emma was not the least bit intimidated and answered with a hint of modesty, “I am my mommy’s child.”
This response... caused Gabriel's mouth to twitch.
As he looked into the other person's beautiful big eyes, he inexplicably felt a fatherly affection welling up inside.
"Take off your mask and let me see." He wasn't a nosy person, but at this moment, he just wanted to see what this little girl looked like.
Somehow, he found her adorable.
"You're being impolite." Emma became unhappy.
"Huh?" Gabriel raised an eyebrow, being lectured by a child for the first time, which was rather amusing.
"My mommy said that I shouldn't play with impolite people, nor should I reveal my true face to strangers. Otherwise, if strangers see how cute I am, they might take me away and I won't be able to see my mommy." Emma spoke with clear and logical sentences.
Gabriel silently praised the parent for educating her so well.
He softened further and said, "I am not a bad person."
"My mommy said that bad people don't have 'bad person' written on their faces."
Gabriel: ...
For the first time, he was rendered speechless by a child's answer, which reminded him of Sophia, who was just as sharp-tongued.
Refusing to admit defeat, he said, "Did your mommy tell you not to run around?"
"No! That's why I have to go back now and find my mommy. Goodbye, uncle." She was quite reasonable.
After speaking boldly, she turned around and left.
Since Ethan wasn't here, she better leave quickly. The way the uncle looked at her felt like he was eyeing a piece of meat. He wouldn't really take her home, would he?
Emma ran fast and disappeared in an instant.
Gabriel shook his head gently, feeling bored with himself for trying to entertain a child.
But if Sam were as lively and adorable as him... Gabriel's heart clenched at the thought of Sam.
Well, he would cancel his social engagement tonight and go back to the old house to accompany the child.
...
Sam finally found Ethan in the stairwell, and later, found Emma in the parking lot. They finally reunited.
Sam wanted to invite them for a meal, but Ethan and Emma said they wanted to go home and eat with their mommy.
"Next time, we'll invite you to come play at our house. My mommy is really good at cooking," Emma said sympathetically, patting Sam's shoulder as he looked saddened after the rejection.
Sam immediately nodded in agreement.
After Emma left, Ethan and Emma happened to run into Sophia when they returned, and the two little ones immediately clung to her.
At night, while mommy was busy, Emma played games while Ethan pondered about what he had seen today.
