Chapter 710 Can't Open
Sharpe was out of immediate danger, but he was severely injured with multiple fractures and a brain hemorrhage.
Fortunately, his life was saved, and he was sent to the ICU.
Next, Aragorn was also wheeled out. His condition wasn't good either; his face was as pale as a sheet of paper, and his breathing was so weak that it was almost imperceptible. Only the beeping of the machines assured everyone that he was still alive.
Aragorn was taken to a room, and when Gummidge asked the doctor about his condition, the doctor looked grave and shook his head, "The family should prepare for the worst result."
Gummidge took a step back and almost fell, but Ashley caught her.
Ashley’s eyes reddened, "Doctor, please, you have to save him."
The doctor sighed, "The patient has suffered a severe shock, and combined with the external impact, his condition is worse than before."
Gummidge looked ashen and trembled all over.
Caroline and Nicholas went to see Sharpe outside the ICU. As they were leaving, they passed by the emergency room and stopped.
From a distance, Nicholas saw Gummidge covering her face and crying, while Ashley wiped away a tear with her head down.
Nicholas felt a pang in his heart.
Nicholas remembered when Daisy recklessly crashed into them, Aragorn had thrown himself in front of Daisy to push her away.
Seeing the expressions on Gummidge and Ashley's faces, Caroline could easily guess that Aragorn's condition might be dire.
"Nicholas," Paul came running over, out of breath, "How are you guys?"
Nicholas said, "I'm fine, but Sharpe is seriously injured, and..."
He glanced over there and signaled to Paul, "You should go take a look."
Then he turned to Caroline and said, "Let's go home."
Caroline nodded, "Okay."
Lisa had someone to take care of her in the hospital, and with everything that had happened, Caroline didn't dare to visit Lisa, fearing she would worry.
Caroline called Daniel, and they met him as they left the hospital.
Daniel asked with concern for a long time, and only after confirming that Caroline was fine did he feel relieved. He then turned to see Nicholas's bandaged hand and leg.
Daniel asked, "How are you?"
Nicholas replied, "I'm fine, the injuries aren't serious."
Daniel's eyes turned fierce, "Where's Daisy?"
Nicholas said, "At the police station."
Daisy had driven into Caroline and Nicholas today, and the evidence was conclusive. The hospital had surveillance, and there were many witnesses at the scene; she couldn't escape.
The incident from years ago when she hit Nicholas would also be reopened and re-examined.
Daniel now deeply regretted it; he should have strangled Daisy when she first came to the company.
A video of Daisy's frenzied state at the hospital entrance was posted online, and Daisy became infamous.
Netizens sympathized with Nicholas and increasingly supported Caroline and Nicholas.
Charles's body hadn't fully recovered, and now Sharpe was in the hospital. Without Nicholas's two capable assistants, there was no one to take care of Nicholas at home.
After taking Nicholas home, Caroline was about to leave when Nicholas grabbed her.
Caroline asked in confusion, "What's wrong?"
Nicholas looked at her, sighed after a minute, and said, "Can you stay?"
Caroline said, "Daniel is waiting for me outside."
Nicholas explained, "Charles and Sharpe aren't here, and I'm afraid I can't manage alone."
His leg was injured again, and he definitely needed someone to take care of him.
Caroline questioned, "What about the housekeeper?"
"Some things are inconvenient for the housekeeper to do, and I don't like any woman touching me except you." Nicholas's eyes were earnest.
Caroline hesitated.
Nicholas said, "If you don't want to, then forget it."
He lowered his head in disappointment and turned his wheelchair to go into the room.
Seeing his desolate back, Caroline sighed, "Alright, I'll stay and take care of you for one night."
Nicholas stopped, his back to her, and a slight smile appeared on his lips.
Caroline went outside to inform Daniel. Daniel didn't want to agree to her staying overnight; Nicholas's leg was already healing, and what if he bullied Caroline?
But Caroline insisted on staying, so Daniel had to agree.
Daniel reminded, "Remember, if he dares to bully you, call me."
"Okay, I know." Caroline nodded.
Caroline felt relieved after sending Daniel off.
When she returned inside, Nicholas was instructing the housekeeper to prepare dinner.
Heights Hill Villa wasn't new to Caroline; the last time she was here, she was forced to be his housekeeper. This time, she had a different role, his girlfriend!
The room she used to stay in was still there, so Caroline decided to stay in that room tonight.
Today had been a terrible day. Caroline took a shower and opened the wardrobe to find it full of clothes she could wear.
It seemed Nicholas had prepared in advance.
Caroline changed into loungewear and came out to find Nicholas looking at her with a resentful expression.
Caroline questioned, "What?"
Nicholas replied, "I want to take a shower too."
"Then go ahead."
"The doctor said my wounds can't get wet."
Caroline frowned, thinking Nicholas couldn't possibly want her to help him bathe!
"Help me."
Sure enough, the next moment, she heard him say that.
Caroline turned around, blushing, "Don't shower, just bear with it."
"No, I'm too dirty, I can't stand it." Nicholas frowned, "If you don't want to, then forget it."
There it was again, that phrase that always got to her.
"I'll do it myself then." Nicholas sighed deeply.
"How will you do it yourself?"
"Just a regular wash."
"The wounds will get wet."
"Then let them get wet."
"That will make it worse."
"It's okay."
Caroline was silent.
She felt that being soft-hearted was also a disease that needed treatment.
Caroline felt she was helpless; she worried about Nicholas's wounds getting infected, so she reluctantly followed him into the bathroom.
In the end, she reluctantly helped him bathe.
When they came out, Caroline's face was as red as an apple.
Nicholas changed into clean clothes and looked very pleased.
Even after dinner, Caroline's face was still flushed.
Around eleven, Caroline was tired and wanted to rest, but found that her room door wouldn't open.
She found the housekeeper.
"I accidentally locked the door when I was putting the blankets in. I'll go find the key." The housekeeper hurried off to find the key.
After a while, the housekeeper returned, "I'm sorry, Miss Clark, I can't remember where I put the key in my hurry."
"It's okay, take your time." Caroline said.
The housekeeper searched for a while longer and then said, "I remember now, the key is locked inside."
Caroline asked, "Are there any other rooms? I'll sleep in another room."
"The other rooms are unoccupied and usually locked, with the keys inside."
"Do you have any blankets? I'll sleep on the couch in the living room."
"Blankets." The housekeeper looked down, her eyes darting around, and then she had an idea, "I threw out the old blankets because they got damp from the rain recently, and the new ones haven't arrived yet. The only usable one was just put in your room."
At this moment, Nicholas came out, as if he had heard the commotion.
Nicholas asked, "What's going on?"
The housekeeper quickly explained to Nicholas and then looked anxiously at Caroline and Nicholas.
"It's okay, you go rest." Nicholas said to the housekeeper.
"Okay, Mr. Watson. Good night, Miss Clark."
The housekeeper quickly ran off, leaving Caroline wide-eyed.
