Chapter 769: Sent to Room 866

During the meal, Harrison sat down across from Alex with his tray.

"What's going on with you? Why did that project go to another company?"

Alex said, "That company met our requirements."

"Didn't Gabriel prefer another company?"

"I recommended it to Mr. Lancaster."

Harrison sensed something unusual.

Alex noticed Harrison's intriguing gaze and immediately looked away.

"You've got something going on!"

After Harrison's persistent probing, he finally learned the truth.

"If you want a girlfriend, come to me. I'll introduce you to someone." Harrison put his arm around Alex's shoulder, acting very friendly.

Alex brushed his hand away. "No need, I've realized I'm better off single."

Harrison took out his phone. "Look at this girl, isn't she your type?"

He didn't listen to Alex at all and enthusiastically introduced girls he knew to Alex.

Alex was so scared that he quickly went on a business trip.

Clara was in a bad mood, and the project had issues. This project had been in negotiation for over six months. If it could be secured, the Taylor Group's investment would yield a 200% return.

"Let the subordinates handle this. You just got out of the hospital and are already going on a business trip. How can you recover properly?" Cynthia nagged while helping Clara pack her luggage.

Clara drank the soup Cynthia made. "This project is quite important. I have to handle it personally."

"You're just like your father. Once you start working, you ignore everything else." Cynthia had no choice but to help Clara pack as best as she could.

"When you come back, I'll make you more soup. Your fracture needs proper care. If it doesn't heal well, you'll suffer when you have kids in the future."

"By the way, an elder introduced a potential match for you last time. The man is quite outstanding. You should meet him." Cynthia added.

Clara put down her bowl upon hearing this. "I just remembered I have a video conference. I need to prepare some materials."

With that, Clara quickly walked into the study.

Cynthia sighed.

In City Z, Clara was on the phone while walking out of the airport. Her assistant put the luggage in the taxi's trunk.

At the hotel, the assistant went to check in.

Clara was handling emails on her phone and didn't see the person in front of her, bumping into them unexpectedly.

Clara's heart immediately raced.

'Oh no, if I fall again, my fracture will worsen, and I may not get out of the hospital this year.' Clara thought in mind.

Just as Clara was about to fall, the expected pain didn't come. Someone grabbed her hand, and then an arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her into a firm embrace.

Clara exhaled and quickly stepped back.

"Sorry, I just..." Before she could finish, she looked up and saw a familiar face. Surprised, she said, "What are you doing here?"

The person she bumped into was Alex.

Alex stepped back, maintaining a polite expression. "I'm here on a business trip. Are you okay, Miss Taylor?"

"I'm fine." Seeing Alex come out of the elevator, Clara's heart skipped a beat.

"Are you staying at this hotel too?" Clara asked.

Alex nodded.

"Which floor are you on?" Clara continued.

Alex didn't answer but checked his watch. "I have to go. Please excuse me, Miss Taylor."

Alex walked briskly past Clara towards the door. Clara grabbed Alex's assistant.

"Which floor is Alex staying on?" Clara asked.

Alex's assistant replied, "Eighth floor."

"Which room?" Clara questioned.

Alex's assistant looked at Clara suspiciously.

Clara said, "What are you looking at? Do you think as the heir to the Taylor Bank, I would do something to you?"

Alex's assistant quickly said, "No, I'm just curious why Miss Taylor is asking."

"Just answer the question."

"Alex is in 866, and I'm in 867."

Alex noticed Paxton Allen hadn't come out and turned to see him talking to Clara.

Paxton didn't want to waste time and quickly caught up with Alex after talking to Clara.

Alex didn't ask him anything, and they quickly discussed the day's work in the car.

Gabriel and Sophia were still on their honeymoon. Alex would report important work to Gabriel at appropriate times, like in the morning or afternoon, but never at night.

Clara had found out from Paxton that Alex was on a three-day business trip and had arrived yesterday, meaning that they would leave the day after tomorrow if everything went as planned.

This didn't match her schedule.

"Soren, you don't need to drink for me at tonight's dinner."

Soren Turner was shocked. 'What does Clara mean? Is she dissatisfied with me?'

"Also, if I get drunk, remember to take me to room 866," Clara said.

Soren nodded.

To solve the problem, a dinner invitation was inevitable.

At the dinner, Soren followed instructions and didn't help a single drink for Clara. The other party was a heavy drinker and kept drinking with Clara.

Clara remained silent.

Fortunately, even the best drinkers get drunk eventually.

Following instructions, Soren took Clara back to the hotel and knocked on room 866.

Alex, in his pajamas, was still working. Hearing the doorbell, he thought his delivery had arrived.

He opened the door.

"Alex." Soren looked at Clara helplessly, "Ms. Taylor got drunk while entertaining clients to solve the Inspire Tech Solutions issue."

"Why didn't you take her to her room to rest? Why bring her here?" Alex frowned, his tone indifferent, but his eyes involuntarily showed concern as he looked at Clara, who was hanging her head.

Soren paused, eyes wide with confusion.

Clara had only told him to bring her to room 866, without explaining why.

Soren thought of an excuse and said, "Ms. Taylor always has issues when she's drunk, so she can't be left alone. But it's not appropriate for me to stay with her in the same room. If my girlfriend found out, she'd break up with me."

Soren pleaded, "Please, be kind and look after Ms. Taylor for the night."

Alex's frown deepened.

Soren steeled himself and continued, "Ms. Taylor kept calling your name in the car. I thought you two..."

Before he could finish, he looked both troubled and disappointed as he started to take Clara away.

"Give her to me." Alex said.

Soren's eyes lit up, and he quickly handed Clara to Alex. "Thank you for tonight."

He bowed deeply and then ran back to his room.

Alex supported Clara with one hand, watching Soren run off. He suddenly wondered if he should have been so soft-hearted.

But he couldn't leave her drunk and alone either.

There were cases of alcohol poisoning leading to death due to delayed treatment.

Alex carried Clara inside.

Clara instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck.

Alex placed her on the bed, but as he tried to get up, Clara clung tightly to his neck.

Thinking she was awake, he looked at her, but she had her eyes closed and smacked her lips as if dreaming of something delicious.

Clara let out a soft, spoiled sound and pulled him down forcefully.

Caught off guard, Alex's lips accidentally landed on her beautiful cheek.
