Chapter 327 Selling the House

The time was getting late, and Ethan reminded Emma that it was time to go home.
Emma said, "Josie, we're heading back now. Come over to my place next time to play."
Josie nodded instinctively.
Nicholas asked Sharpe to take the children back.
After Ethan, Emma, and Sam left, the general office suddenly quieted down, with lots of snacks still on the table.
Nicholas looked at Josie's face.
Josie bore a strong resemblance to Nicholas, but there was also a hint of Caroline in her features, though it wasn't noticeable without a closer look.
Ethan, Emma, and Sam, on the other hand, didn't resemble Caroline at all.
Perhaps they took after their father in looks.
Who could the man with the surname "Kelly" be?
Wait a minute!
Something flashed through Nicholas's mind, and he tried hard to grasp it.
"Josie, what are the names of your three classmates?"
Nicholas asked uncertainly once again.
Josie replied, "Ethan Kelly, Emma Kelly, Sam Lancaster."
"Are they triplets?"
"Yes."
Nicholas suddenly held his breath.
After a while, he let out a sigh, and a faint smile couldn't be suppressed at the corner of his mouth.
Nicholas asked again, "Why do two have the surname Kelly, and one has the surname Lancaster?"
Even if one took the mother's surname and the other the father's, there should be a child with the same surname as Caroline.
Josie explained, "Ethan and Emma have their mother's surname, Kelly, and Sam has their father's surname, Lancaster."
Nicholas couldn't help but smile.
They weren't Caroline's children!
Charles and Sharpe returned together, stopping in shock and exchanging glances.
Sharpe asked, "Do I see it wrong?"
Charles replied, "No, the boss seems really happy."
Sharpe rubbed his eyes and looked again, and Nicholas was still smiling.
After all these years by Nicholas's side, they had never seen the boss smile.
Even on the day they developed the special drug, amidst everyone's jubilation, Nicholas remained cold as ice.
Sharpe was curious about what Josie had said to Nicholas to make the usually aloof Nicholas show such a joyful smile.
Josie had no idea why Nicholas suddenly became so cheerful.
She wondered, 'Does Dad also really like Emma, Ethan, and Sam?'
That would be wonderful!
Nicholas suddenly picked up Josie and placed her on his lap.
"I can't lift you, but I can hold you often."
Josie was delighted, leaning against her father's chest.
She wondered if someone would love her in the future.
In the car, Emma grew increasingly angry.
"Ethan, do you think that wicked woman might not be Josie's biological mother?"
Ethan found it particularly strange, too.
In their understanding, mothers loved their children.
But with Daisy, there was no love for Josie, only disdain.
Ethan was coding on his iPad, not even looking up as he said, "We could do a paternity test to see if she's Josie's mother."
Emma's eyes lit up. "Yes, we can ask the godmother to help us with this."
Josie was in a pitiful situation, and they had to help her!
Sam blinked from the side.
"The godmother is very busy; maybe we can ask great-grandmother for help."
Emma remembered how difficult it was even to see Caroline now.
"Alright, let's ask great-grandmother for help."
Now Caroline spent all her time at the hospital, trying to find ways to make money and hardly coming back.
So, Ruth occupied the room Caroline used to live in.
Ruth felt the place was too small and cramped, occupying Caroline's room; she felt quite embarrassed and suggested that Sophia and the children move to the villa under her name.
"Ms. Lancaster, I'm fine living here; this is my own house. When I save up more money, I'll get a bigger one."
Sophia didn't want to take advantage of Ruth; she felt more at ease living in her own house.
Ruth wanted to say something more, but there was a commotion outside; the children had returned.
At ten o'clock in the evening, the children were all asleep, Ruth rested, and Sophia was still busy in the study.
Suddenly, she heard the sound of the door opening, and Sophia frowned.
At this hour, could it be a thief trying to break in?
Sophia cautiously opened the study door, a crack to look outside.
"Caroline!"
Sophia opened the door wide and walked out.
Caroline looked up.
"What's wrong with you? You..." Sophia was astonished to see Caroline's eyes red as if she had been crying, her clothes a bit messy, and two buttons missing from her collar.
Sophia's expression changed.
"Did someone bully you?"
Caroline emotionally collapsed and hugged Sophia.
"Why am I being punished like this? What did I do wrong?"
She was on the verge of breaking down!
Today was the final episode of Caroline's recording for a variety show, and the intensity was high. While others were complaining and resisting, she endured her physical discomfort to finish.
As she was leaving, the producer stopped Caroline, praising her performance and asking her to record two more episodes, offering her more pay.
Caroline agreed eagerly and went with the producer to the office to sign a new contract.
The upright producer she remembered had changed entirely, making inappropriate advances towards her.
In the struggle, her buttons were torn off, and the producer almost assaulted her.
Caroline knew that in this industry, she would sooner or later encounter such situations, especially since she had experienced them before and knew how to handle them.
But when all the pressure accumulated, even the smallest thing she could handle could cause her to break down.
Caroline didn't confide; she just hugged Sophia and cried, trembling all over.
She needed an outlet.
Sophia quietly accompanied Caroline, hugging her, her warm hands soothing her increasingly fragile back.
Half an hour later, Caroline's tears dried up, she sniffed, her voice hoarse.
"Sophia, thank you. I'm going back to the hospital."
"Don't go back so late; stay here and sleep," Sophia was worried about Caroline going out late at night.
After some thought, Caroline nodded.
Late at night, Caroline lay on the sofa, unable to sleep.
She was somewhat regretful; she shouldn't have come back, now making Sophia worry about her.
But at that moment, Caroline truly didn't know where she should go.
The next day, after breakfast, Caroline went to the hospital, and Sophia, seeing her condition improving, felt relieved.
Sophia was eating breakfast while using her iPad.
Ruth caught a glimpse of the content on the iPad.
"Are you selling the house? Are you finally getting a bigger one?"
All three children looked over.
Sophia set down the iPad and explained, "Caroline's mother is seriously ill and needs a large sum for treatment and surgery. I want to help her."
Ruth also liked Caroline quite a bit, and such matters indeed required assistance.
"So if you sell the house, where will you and the children live?"
"Ms.Lancaster, I've reconciled with Gabriel. The children will be sent back to The Lancaster family, and I'll rent a cheaper house for myself. I'll visit the children every day in the future."
"What?"
Ruth's eyes widened in surprise; then joy bubbled up inside her.
Reconciliation was good! It should be reconciled!
Otherwise, the children would suffer too much.
