Chapter 617 Return
Deep down, she couldn't just let Clayton off the hook that easily.
No way she wanted to share a brother with Daisy.
"That's all in the past."
Caroline's stone-cold face screamed that she hadn't forgiven Clayton yet.
Clayton bit his lip, shuffled closer to Caroline, and gave her sleeve a little tug.
"Caroline, sis, from now on, I'm your real brother. Whatever you need, I'm on it, no questions asked."
He couldn't even figure out why he was so quick to accept Caroline as his real sister.
Clayton thought, 'Maybe it's 'cause we're actually related? No wonder I always felt like I knew her.'
"Really? Anything I ask, you'll do it?" Caroline asked, eyebrows raised.
Clayton nodded seriously, not realizing he was walking right into a trap.
Caroline thought for a second.
"You called me a bitch and a homewrecker for Daisy back then."
With every word Caroline said, Clayton's head dropped lower, wishing he could just disappear.
Clayton thought, 'Didn't Caroline say she forgave me? Why bring this up again!'
"You even shoved me to the ground to defend Daisy and trashed my name everywhere," Caroline said with a sly grin.
"I'm sorry!" Clayton dropped to his knees, hugging her legs and bawling, "Caroline, I was wrong. I'm a total jerk."
"I'm not gonna do anything to you, so why are you freaking out?" Caroline grabbed his hand and pulled him up.
Clayton felt both guilty and bummed out.
Caroline went on, "I'm telling you this to remind you how you went all out for Daisy. Now do the same for me."
"What?" Clayton was freaked out and waved his hands like crazy. "No way, I can't do that. Daisy's my sister too."
"So, I'm not your sister? Just get lost."
"No." Clayton clung to Caroline's arm. "You're my sister too, my real sister. She's just my cousin."
Caroline tried to shake him off, but Clayton held on tight, not letting go, determined to make peace.
Sharpe pushed Nicholas into the room and immediately saw Clayton clinging to Caroline. Nicholas's eyes were dark with anger.
Paul screamed, There's a murderous vibe! Move!
Clayton, still clueless, kept pledging his loyalty.
"Caroline, from now on, I'm your knight. If anyone messes with you again, I'll take 'em down."
Nicholas gave Sharpe a look, and Sharpe got it, stepping forward to grab Clayton and drag him away from Caroline before tossing him out of the room.
"Sharpe, what the heck?"
Clayton tried to get back in, but Sharpe slammed the door, almost hitting Clayton's nose.
Caroline was momentarily stunned but then felt a warm glow in her heart.
Nicholas's face looked terrible, but his eyes were full of love for her.
"It's late. Why are you still here?" Lisa, sensing the awkward vibe, spoke up.
Nicholas replied, "It's nothing, just passing by."
He leaned over to pick up the already sleeping Josie.
Lisa continued, "You all should go back and rest. There are nurses here; no need to stay overnight."
Paul plopped down on the couch and said, "Caroline, you should go back with Nicholas. I'll stay. Got nothing better to do anyway."
With that, he yawned and then sprawled out on the couch.
Lisa and Caroline had no choice but to head out with Nicholas.
Clayton was still hanging around outside. When he saw Caroline come out, he wanted to approach but was stopped dead in his tracks by Nicholas' icy glare.
Clayton felt pretty bummed out.
"Caroline, you heading out?"
Caroline gave a slight nod.
"Take care on your way."
Before Clayton could finish, a sharp voice cut in, "Clayton, what are you doing?"
Daisy rushed over, shooting daggers at Caroline before switching to a sweet smile for Nicholas.
"Nicholas, Mom and Dad miss you. Can you come visit them tomorrow if you have time?"
Paul, hearing Daisy's voice, jumped up and stormed out.
"How dare you still call them 'Mom' and 'Dad'? You think calling them that makes you a Watson?"
Paul snapped, "No matter how sweet you talk, it won't work. Nicholas is all about Caroline, and you'll never have him."
Daisy, fuming, threw her stuff to the ground and pointed at him.
"You, you..."
She glanced at Clayton and Caroline, and a light bulb went off in her head.
"Caroline, I'm begging you, okay?" She moved closer to Caroline.
Nicholas immediately maneuvered his wheelchair to block Caroline.
Daisy's eyes welled up with tears, looking all pitiful.
"Nicholas, you and I were a thing. Before Caroline showed up, we were so good together. You protected me, cared for me, and even when I got hurt, you were so worried."
"Ever since Caroline showed up, you haven't looked at me for more than three seconds."
As Daisy spoke, tears streamed down her face, making her look truly pitiful.
She then turned to Caroline and said, "Caroline, please, can you give Nicholas back to me? I really need him."
"No," Caroline said coldly, her voice light but firm.
Nicholas's heart did a happy dance upon hearing this.
Daisy's voice abruptly stopped.
She had so much more to say, but it was cut off, nearly choking her.
She continued to look pitiful.
Caroline angrily said, "How can you be so cruel?"
"You haven't even settled the score for separating me from Josie, and now you're slandering me, accusing me of interfering in your relationship with Nicholas, when in fact, you were the third wheel."
"If it weren't for you, Nicholas and I wouldn't have separated, and we wouldn't have had so many misunderstandings."
"You were the one who beat me half to death and forced me to leave the country in disgrace."
"Daisy, you like Nicholas, but I will never give him to you. All the harm you've done to me, I will repay in full."
Linda stood at the door, listening to Caroline's words, and all the things she had overlooked in the past came flooding back.
Back then, Daisy often complained to her about Caroline interfering in her relationship with Nicholas and how Caroline bullied her.
Linda basically gave Daisy the green light to use the family's connections to push Caroline out of the picture.
Linda's body swayed, and she instinctively held onto the door frame.
Little did she know, she had hurt her daughter so early on!
Her daughter had suffered so much injustice and harm back then.
Linda's heart ached unbearably, her red, swollen eyes filled with blood, staring intently at Daisy.
