Chapter 524 A Family

Diana was clutching a bunch of flowers. She was on the mend, still a bit wobbly and looking kinda rough, but that didn't stop her from heading out.

First thing she did when she could go out? Thank her lifesaver, Caroline.

"Miss Clark, thanks for donating your bone marrow to me."

Caroline checked Diana out, saw the genuine gratitude, and took the flowers with a smile. "Your family already paid me. You really didn't have to come thank me in person."

Diana shot back, "My family is my family, and I’m me. I had to thank you face-to-face. You gave me a shot at life."

Caroline, kinda lost for words, asked about her health.

Diana said, "I'm doing better now. Gonna hit the hospital for a follow-up, then just regular checkups."

Caroline nodded.

"Diana."

Linda came back from the restroom, worried about Diana being out alone, so she tagged along.

Seeing Caroline, Linda smiled gratefully too. "Miss Clark, thanks a ton for saving her life."

Caroline said, "No need to be so formal. I took your check, so we’re square."

Linda remembered what Daniel had said and felt more and more that giving the check was a mistake.

She wanted to explain but didn’t know where to start.

"I appreciate your kindness, but I got stuff to do, so I won’t walk you out."

Caroline was politely showing them the door.

Her cold vibe made Linda feel a bit off, though she couldn’t figure out why.

"Mom, Diana." Clayton showed up.

Linda quickly shook off the weird feeling.

Caroline glanced at them, seeing the family of three chatting and laughing as they got ready to leave. But Diana pushed Linda’s hand away and walked over.

"Miss Clark, got time? I’d like to treat you to a meal."

Caroline repeated, "I appreciate it, but no need for a meal. You don’t owe me anything more. Like I said, we’re good."

Her blunt words left Diana stunned.

Caroline knew she might’ve been a bit harsh, but she really didn’t want anything to do with the Wolfs.

Seeing Diana standing there awkwardly, Linda walked over, feeling sorry for her, and took her hand.

"If Miss Clark’s busy, then forget it. Diana, what do you wanna eat? I’ll take you."

Diana had no choice but to nod. "Okay, Miss Clark, we’ll be going now."

"Alright, bye."

Caroline looked down after speaking.

She suddenly felt a bit sad, for no reason.

Maybe she was just too envious of Diana.

Linda’s obvious motherly love for Diana showed in the way she looked at her, how she was always careful and protective, and in her consistently thoughtful tone, all of which made Caroline envious.

Caroline brooded, 'But it doesn’t matter. I’m just never gonna have that kind of pure motherly love. But I could give Josie lots and lots of love.'

Thinking of Josie, the sadness in Caroline’s heart immediately disappeared, and the emptiness was quickly filled.

"Caroline."

Just as Diana and the others reached the door, they saw Paul, and Diana’s face lit up with surprise.

Paul saw them too.

"Aunt Linda." Paul greeted Linda politely, then gave Diana a nod, polite but kinda distant.

"Paul, you here to see Caroline?" Linda asked, looking puzzled.

"Yeah," Paul admitted straight up. "I'm here to pick Caroline up from work."

Linda frowned a bit at that.

"You and Caroline..."

"Aunt Linda, Caroline is Nicholas's future wife. I'm here on behalf of Nicholas to pick her up."

Linda paused, couldn't hold back. "Daisy's about to give birth, Paul. You should tell Nicholas to be with Daisy and stop bothering Caroline."

Before, because of Daisy, she had a bad impression of Caroline, but after Caroline donated her bone marrow to Diana, her opinion of Caroline had improved a bit.

But this messy situation needed to end. She really hoped Caroline wouldn't get hurt by Nicholas.

Paul wasn't happy. "Aunt Linda, you should tell Daisy to let Nicholas go. Nicholas really doesn't like being a sucker."

Linda asked, "What do you mean?"

Paul didn't want to say more. The Wolfs always protected their own, and no matter what, they'd stand by Daisy.

"Mom, I'm hungry." Diana, sensing the tension, quickly spoke up.

Hearing Diana say she was hungry, Linda immediately dropped everything and left with Diana and Clayton.

Diana looked back at Paul longingly but only saw his back.

Even just Paul's back made her heart race for a long time.

In the car, Linda noticed Diana's slightly flushed cheeks and her somewhat happy eyes, and she instantly got something.

'Could Diana have fallen for Paul?' Linda wondered.

Linda didn't ask right then and there. She planned to observe more to see if Diana really had feelings for Paul.

"Caroline, I'm here to pick you up from work on behalf of Nicholas." Paul sat down on the bench next to Caroline and crossed his legs.

Caroline didn't look up, finishing her lesson plan.

"I have a car. I can go home myself."

Paul chuckled. "I know, but Nicholas already went to pick up Josie, so he sent me to get you."

Caroline looked up at him. "Why did he pick up Josie?"

"To go out for dinner. Caroline, are you done? If you are, I'll take you there."

Caroline parted her lips but stayed silent.

She felt like she was being controlled by Nicholas.

Paul dropped Caroline off at the restaurant and left. Nicholas and Josie were already seated at the table. Josie waved her hands excitedly when she saw Caroline.

"Mom, we are here."

Caroline walked over and asked, "Where's Lisa?"

Nicholas replied, "She didn't want to come."

Caroline knew Lisa didn't like going out. Lisa still had to take special medication every day to prevent a relapse.

Since Caroline received the Wolfs' check, bought a house, and paid off her debts, it had become easier for her to afford Lisa's medication.

The three of them sat in the restaurant, creating a very warm scene.

Not far away, someone took a photo of them and sent it to Daisy.

"Daisy, is this Nicholas? I saw him having dinner with a woman and a child. They look like a family."

Daisy was sitting on the couch, eating fruit. When she saw the message from her friend, her face darkened.

She opened the photo and zoomed in. The apple in her hand was thrown away.

"Daisy, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?" Mia asked, concerned, as she saw Daisy's sudden change in expression.
