Chapter 696 Blood Boiling
Alex turned around, feeling a chill run down his spine. "Mr. Lancaster, anything else?"
Gabriel handed him a piece of paper with a list of names. "Check if these people have any ties to Micro Circuit Group."
Alex took one look at the list and everything clicked.
The names were of banks that refused to fund the Lancaster Group. Gabriel's rumors about seeking financing were just a smokescreen for his real plan.
Gabriel had plenty of private assets, and the Lancaster Group had a lot of businesses. He could sell a few to cover the losses.
But he didn't want to do that because selling them might give competitors an edge. If they used those businesses against the Lancaster Group, it would be a disaster.
Instead, by seeking financing, Gabriel could see who might be a threat to the Lancaster Group.
With Keith as an example, and not knowing who their enemies were, they had to be extra careful.
Alex quickly took the list and got to work.
Sophia had just gotten back to Fusion Dynamics Corporation when Jennifer dragged her to the fabric factory.
Sophia drove while Jennifer sat in the passenger seat.
As they started off, Jennifer tried to toss her bag in the back seat. She noticed something under the seat and picked it up. It was a men's tie.
Jennifer asked, "What's this?"
Sophia glanced over, almost losing control of the car.
"It's..." Sophia stammered, her face turning red.
Jennifer gave her a serious look, waiting for an explanation. Sophia got even more flustered.
At the next intersection, Sophia stopped and pulled the handbrake.
She took a deep breath and said, "It's Gabriel's. I brought him lunch today, and we ate in the car. He must've taken off his tie because he was hot and forgot it."
Sophia blurted it all out in one go.
Jennifer laughed.
"Wow, young folks." She rolled up the tie and handed it back to Sophia, clearly not buying the lunch story.
Sophia quickly took it and stuffed it into a box.
The light turned green, and Sophia continued driving, following the GPS.
Jennifer watched her with a smile. In her mind, Gabriel was a good guy. Even though he had hurt Sophie before, it seemed like he had changed, and the kids needed a complete family.
Most importantly, Sophie seemed happy with Gabriel.
Back at the Lancaster Manor, Ruth was on the phone, beaming. "Great job, Clara. I knew you wouldn't let me down. Don't worry, I'll set you up with a fantastic boyfriend."
Clara's sweet voice replied, "If he's not like Gabriel, I'm not interested."
Ruth chuckled, "Well, that's a tough one. There's only one Gabriel. You might end up single forever."
Clara said shyly, "Mrs. Lancaster."
Ruth laughed heartily, "Don't worry, I'll find you someone you'll love."
After a bit more chatting, Ruth hung up. Betty brought her a plate of fruit, and Ruth was in a great mood.
Betty asked, "Ruth, what's got you so happy?"
Ruth pulled out her phone and showed Betty a photo. "Betty, check this out."
The picture was of Gabriel and Sophia kissing in the car.
Betty's eyes widened, then she smiled. "That's fantastic! Mr. Lancaster and Miss Kelly finally made up."
They had all been worried about Sophia and Gabriel's rocky relationship.
Ruth filled Betty in on how she had orchestrated Clara's help.
"Thank goodness Gabriel explained everything. If Sophia had made a scene, I would've had to step in," Ruth said, feeling relieved that her plan had worked out.
Clara had mentioned that Sophia had cried quite a bit.
"Make sure to cook something special for Sophia tonight," Ruth instructed.
Betty nodded. "Got it, I'll let the chef know right away."
Feeling a bit bored, Ruth put on her glasses and picked up her phone, intending to find a suitable wealthy young man for Clara. But as she browsed, she got distracted by diamond rings instead.
Sophia and Jennifer spent the whole afternoon at the fabric factory, overwhelmed by the variety of fabrics.
"It's getting late. Let's head back," Jennifer said, standing up and stretching.
Sophia stretched her neck and agreed.
When Sophia got home, it was just getting dark. As soon as she walked in, she saw Gabriel, who had said he'd be back late, playing with the kids.
"Mommy's home!" Emma was the first to notice Sophia and ran up to hug her. "Mommy, Daddy's back."
"Yeah, I see."
Sophia changed her shoes, and Emma pulled her to join in. "Mommy, come play with us."
It was rare for both Sophia and Gabriel to play with the kids at the same time, so the three children were visibly excited.
The whole villa was filled with the sound of their joyful laughter.
Even though Gabriel was exhausted, he still found the energy to play with the kids.
After dinner, Gabriel read to them until all three were asleep. Only then did he have some free time.
Sophia noticed the tiredness in his eyes and felt a pang of sympathy. "You should get some rest."
"The shower in my room seems to be broken," Gabriel suddenly said.
Sophia replied, "Then use the guest bathroom?"
Gabriel shook his head. "I'm not used to the guest bathroom."
Sophia had a feeling she knew where this was going.
Gabriel asked, "Can I use your bathroom?"
Just as she thought.
Sophia eventually let him use her bathroom.
While Gabriel was showering, Sophia sat on the sofa, trying to read a book but getting distracted by the sound of the water. She couldn't help but think about what had happened in the car at noon.
Her heart started to race.
Could Gabriel be thinking...
She was thirty years old and had her own desires and needs. The thought made her feel a bit excited!
The water stopped, and Sophia's heart tightened. After a few minutes, Gabriel came out in a loosely tied bathrobe, towel-drying his hair. He asked, "Where's the hairdryer?"
"In the bathroom cabinet," Sophia replied, her voice trembling with nervousness.
Gabriel went back in to dry his hair and then came out.
"I'm done," he said, standing at the foot of the bed, not showing any intention of leaving.
Sophia held her book, pretending to read. "Okay, then you should rest early."
"Goodnight."
"Goodnight."
Sophia felt a bit disappointed.
However, after waiting for a while, she didn't hear Gabriel leaving. She turned her head to look.
Sure enough, Gabriel was lying on her bed as if it was the most natural thing in the world.
