Chapter 157 Getting Along Like Strangers
Wendy never expected to run into Lillian there. She saw Lillian and Alice looking intimate, and a flash of jealousy crossed her eyes.
Lillian's gaze only paused between Wendy and Jackson for a moment before she calmly withdrew it.
Jackson, on the other hand, never looked at Lillian from the beginning to the end as if she were a stranger to him.
"Jackson, why is Lillian here too?" Wendy asked Jackson in a puzzled tone.
With one hand in his pocket, Jackson coldly replied, "I don't know."
Seeing that neither of them greeted each other, it was obvious that they didn't seem like a couple at all, and Jackson's response indicated that Lillian's presence there was not arranged by him. Wendy relaxed, a bright smile playing on her lips as she provocatively looked at Lillian.
"Alice, that's Mr. Frane and his friend," The blond man standing next to Jackson approached Alice and whispered a few words to her.
Alice nodded toward Jackson. Only then did Jackson step forward and greet Alice in fluent Italian.
As the two conversed smoothly, Lillian listened quietly and learned that Alice's husband and Jackson were business partners.
Through this connection, Jackson introduced Wendy to Alice.
Wendy wanted to join the accompanying team for Alice's tour this time as a violinist.
Alice's tour in the country may not have the same popularity as a top star, but it was indeed a big event in the dance circle.
If Wendy could join the accompanying team, it would be a recognition of her abilities.
This was the condition Jackson had discussed with Wendy before. Wendy would keep the baby in her belly, and Jackson would do his best to help her find resources.
"Wendy, Alice agreed to listen to you play the violin later. Come over and thank her in person," Jackson turned to Wendy and said.
Wendy didn't understand Italian at all. She didn't even understand what Jackson and Alice were talking about just now. At this moment, she hurriedly stepped forward and thanked Alice in English.
However, Alice's reaction was very cold, and she just nodded.
Alice then looked at Jackson and said, "Mr. Frane, you speak Italian very fluently. I didn't expect to find so many people proficient in Italian in New York, just like Lillian. Her Italian is also very authentic, making me feel very comfortable as soon as I got off the plane."
Alice then pulled Lillian to her side, looking curious, and asked, "But do you two know each other? Your accents are similar."
Lillian looked at Jackson, her eyes flickering slightly. Her Italian, just like Jackson's, came from the same teacher.
At that time, it was the Franes who hired a foreign language teacher for Jackson. Lillian, who was eight or nine years old at the time, was very attached to Jackson. As long as Jackson was at home, she would stick to him like a little tail.
Because of this, whatever languages Jackson knew, Lillian knew them all too.
For the first time, Jackson's cold gaze swept over Lillian. His gaze was not cold or indifferent, just politely lingering for a moment before turning back to Alice. "I don't know her. Lillian, are you the accompanying translator?"
Lillian didn't want Jackson to know about her studying abroad, so she nodded before Alice could speak. "Yes, I am the translator. However, Mr. Frane, your Italian is so good that there is no need for me here."
Alice had brought an accompanying translator, but her flight was delayed, so she would arrive on a later flight.
Since Lillian happened to know Italian, Alice was pleasantly surprised. On the way to the hotel, she had temporarily asked Lillian to act as the translator in New York.
Wendy stood aside, completely unable to understand what they were talking about. This made her feel superfluous and humiliating about being overwhelmed by Lillian.
She lowered her head and clenched her fists, full of hatred.
