Chapter 424
Jackson stayed quiet on the other end of the line.
Lillian could hear background noise, like a busy crowd.
It didn't sound like his usual work environment.
She got anxious. "Where are you? Is everything okay? Say something."
Then, she heard a clearer announcement. He was definitely at an airport.
Jackson's deep voice finally came through. "Lillian, don't worry. I'm fine. I have an urgent business trip, so I can't try on the suit today."
He was at the airport.
Despite feeling relieved he was safe, Lillian still felt uneasy about him leaving Miracalia. "Is it really urgent? Can't someone else go?"
She gripped the phone tighter, thinking about their upcoming wedding.
Jackson had promised to finish up his work early and spend the days before the wedding with her. But now, he was leaving.
He interrupted her. "Lillian, it's really important, and I have to go. I'm sorry. The suit is tailored to my measurements, so it'll fit. I'll try it on when I get back, okay?" His voice was gentle but firm.
He wasn't staying, but the trip wouldn't be long.
"Do we need to postpone the wedding?" Lillian asked.
"No. I'll be back the day after tomorrow. Our wedding is the day after that. I wouldn't delay it. I have something important to tell you at the wedding, so please wait for me, okay?" Jackson replied with a smile, sounding relaxed but cautious.
Hearing the wedding wouldn't be delayed, Lillian felt better.
She figured the trip must be urgent. Though still a bit unhappy, she said, "Okay, I'll wait. Where are you going?"
But Jackson hung up before she could ask.
Lillian took a deep breath and turned to Molly with an awkward smile. "Jackson has an urgent trip, but his suit measurements should be fine."
Molly looked surprised. "A business trip now?"
Lillian smiled helplessly, feeling down. She couldn't hide her emotions well.
Molly, experienced with brides, could tell Lillian was uneasy about Jackson's trip.
She quickly changed the topic. "Men always avoid trying on clothes. Mr. Frane has a great figure; he'll look good in anything. Don't worry."
Lillian smiled. "Thanks, Molly."
After leaving the Peace Mansion, Molly got into her car and called Gray.
"Did something happen at Star Group? Why is Mr. Frane on a business trip now?"
Molly had gotten close to Lillian and was even invited to the wedding. She was worried and wanted to see if Gray knew what was going on.
