Chapter 763

Jackson threw a punch, and the bear's head hit the car window and bounced back, kissing his handsome face.

Jackson clicked his tongue and continued texting: [Do you have anything planned for your lunch break?]

Lillian: [Know your place.]

Lillian's reply was a blatant reminder to Jackson.

He wasn't even her boyfriend yet, and he was already trying to get her to report her schedule in detail.

Jackson looked at Lillian's cold reply and gritted his teeth.

Jackson: [Alright, what about the afternoon then?]

Lillian never knew Jackson could be so clingy. It seemed like he wanted to schedule breakfast, lunch, and dinner with her for the next month.

She suspected that if she said she was busy in the afternoon, he would ask about breakfast tomorrow.

She bit her lip, and before she could reply, Jackson called her directly.

Lillian answered, and Jackson's low voice came through the phone.

"In a couple of days, it's Mike's grandfather Pax Green's birthday party. Let's go together. There's a small auction tonight. We can have dinner and then go see if we can find a suitable birthday gift for Pax."

Jackson didn't mention that taking Lillian to the Green family party was also about meeting Beck.

He was worried things might change, so he decided not to tell her yet.

This way, if Sean didn't show up, she wouldn't be disappointed, and if he did, it would be a pleasant surprise for Lillian to see Beck.

"Is Pax's birthday coming up?"

Lillian remembered going to Mike's house with Jackson for New Year's when they were kids.

In her memory, Pax was a kind and gentle old man who treated everyone equally with love and warmth.

Lillian didn't mind going to Pax's birthday party.

But...

Lillian refused, "I'll go to the birthday party with my brother."

The Green family should send an invitation to Mystic Meadows.

It would be more appropriate for her to go with Ambrose.

And since she and Jackson were divorced and not back together, it wasn't suitable for them to attend the birthday party together.

On the other end, Jackson fell silent.

Jackson's disappointment and sadness seemed to come through the phone.

"You clearly agreed to let me pursue you," he said in a low voice.

Lillian's heart skipped a beat, and she felt a bit inexplicably sorry.

She bit her lip, trying to remind herself to stay clear-headed and not be swayed by Jackson.

If she went as Jackson's date, it would be like telling everyone they were getting back together.

But she hadn't made up her mind yet and wasn't ready for that step.

Before she could reiterate her stance, Jackson spoke again in a muffled voice, "I understand your concerns and respect your choice. I'll go by myself that day."

Lillian was a bit surprised by Jackson's understanding.

Jackson had always been strong-willed and stubborn, never giving up until he got what he wanted.

But then Jackson added, "Then how about the auction tonight? It's a small event with no important people. We can just go for a walk. You can't refuse me this time."

Jackson's voice was low, as if he would be very sad if Lillian refused again.

Lillian thought for a moment and said, "Alright, I'll go with you, but I have to go home for dinner."

Ambrose was seriously ill this time, and the doctor had prescribed two days of IV drips.

He could be discharged this afternoon, and Lillian had promised to pick him up and have dinner together at Mystic Meadows.

Jackson, hearing her agree to go to the auction, didn't push further and nodded. "Okay, the auction starts at 8:30. I'll be at Mystic Meadows at 8 to pick you up."

Lillian added, "Park your car at the nearby intersection. I'll come over myself."

On the other end, Jackson fell silent.

After a moment, Jackson sighed and asked, "Lillian, am I that unpresentable?"

That sigh was heart-wrenching.

Lillian felt guilty again. Before she could explain, Jackson spoke again.

"Are you interested in Ambrose? Are you afraid he'll find out you're going out with me? Lillian, do you want to be ambiguous with two people?"

And Ambrose would be the legitimate one. He would be the one who couldn't be seen.

Lillian was helpless.

Of course, she wasn't like that. But if Ambrose saw Jackson picking her up, Oberon might find out.

She had been hurt so badly by Jackson before, and she had only been back for a few days. If Oberon knew she was softening towards Jackson...

Oberon would be furious.

Thinking of this, Lillian felt she might be falling for Jackson again. Otherwise, why would she soften just because Jackson knelt for a night?

She was already regretting agreeing to let Jackson pursue her.

However, she wasn't the one who caused this situation.

Jackson didn't understand her, and he even suspected she wanted to be ambiguous with two people?

Thinking this, Lillian was immediately angry and snorted.

"I only agreed to let you pursue me. I haven't accepted your pursuit yet. Even if I agree to be with someone else now, it's none of your business! If you want to pick me up, do as I say. Otherwise, don't come! I can go to the auction myself."

Jackson's gritted voice seemed to come through the phone, and Lillian's eyelashes trembled.

However, after a while, Jackson just said in a frustrated tone.

"Lillian, men can get breast cancer too. If I get it, it'll be because of you."

Lillian was speechless.

But hearing Jackson say that, she knew he had compromised.

Lillian couldn't help but feel a bit happy, a secret satisfaction that Jackson was endlessly accommodating and indulging her.

Lillian's eyelashes fluttered, and she finally said in a soft voice, "See you tonight."

With that, she hung up the phone first.

Just then, the taxi arrived near The Kelly Media building.

Lillian returned to her department and walked back to her desk.

Just as she was about to sit down, Doris came out of Thalia's office and knocked on Lillian's desk. "Thalia wants to see you."

Lillian looked at Doris, who gave her a gloating look and walked away.

Lillian stood up and knocked on Thalia's office door, only to find Anouk inside as well.

She was sitting on the sofa eating a small cake. When she saw Lillian, she smiled and said.

"Lillian, why are you just getting to work? It's almost noon. Is the project department so relaxed and free? If I had known, I would have asked Ruby to arrange for me to join the project department too."
