Chapter 446
The diary restoration was like artifact restoration.
Some names were changed, parts about Jackson were deleted, and some content was added.
So, Jackson didn't notice anything off.
But after finding out the truth, Jackson reviewed the diary while Lillian slept.
He could tell which parts Lillian had written about him and which were added to mislead him.
For example, the part shown at the wedding:
"Today is the 1069th day of loving Kevin. It snowed. It snowed on my first day at the Frane family. Because of you, I love snow. Because of love, I want to see you every snowy day."
Jackson used to think of the night he had brought Lillian to the Frane family. When he went downstairs to see the doctor off, Kevin had sneaked into Lillian's room.
When he came back, he saw Kevin running out, crying, "Jackson, Lillian bit me!"
He used to be jealous, thinking Lillian and Kevin were a quarrelsome couple.
But now, he understood Lillian had had feelings for him from the start.
Jackson spoke for a while but got no response, so he turned his head and asked, "Lillian, are you listening?"
Lillian slowly turned her head. "Where's the diary? Let me see it."
Jackson loosened his grip on the steering wheel. He had brought the diary.
Since Wendy was in the hospital, he still needed to ask her for clarification.
Jackson opened the drawer, took out the diary, and handed it to Lillian. Then he asked, "Why did you bury it back then?"
Lillian held the diary, her eyes showing mixed emotions.
When she had written it, she was not yet eighteen. It was full of a young girl's thoughts, both bitter and sweet.
She was afraid of anyone discovering it.
One night, guests came over, and a servant had an accident. She went upstairs to serve tea.
She overheard Martin and the guests discussing Jackson's marriage.
They mentioned several well-known girls in Miracalia. The guest said, "These girls come from good families, with excellent character and appearance. But Jackson already has a beautiful girl by his side, so he probably won't be interested."
Martin's voice was stern. "Are you talking about Lillian? If the Frane family hadn't taken her in, she would have died. She should be grateful and wait for the Frane family to arrange her marriage and help Jackson's career. If she has any designs on Jackson, the Frane family won't tolerate it! And Jackson sees her as a sister."
"That's hard to say. Keep an eye on it. If it happens, deal with it."
Lillian, terrified at seventeen, was afraid of being sent away and never seeing Jackson again.
She was also afraid the Frane family would arrange an engagement for her, and she wouldn't be able to refuse.
She ran back to her room, wanted to burn the diary, but couldn't.
She cried all night, then buried the diary on the mountain.
At seventeen, Lillian knew Jackson didn't belong to her.
Their statuses were too different, and she didn't have the right to love him.
But later, how did she get so confused?
Thinking about Daisy's dissatisfaction at the wedding, Jenny's curses, and the guests' ridicule, Lillian felt that even if the wedding went smoothly, she wouldn't fit into his world.
Lillian caressed the diary for a long time before opening it.
Jackson thought she was going to check its authenticity, but she suddenly rolled down the car window.
With the cold wind blowing in, she tore the diary apart and threw it out the window.
