Chapter 244 Husband and Wife's Mutual Consent
Lillian pursed her lips lightly, saying, "Alright, I do miss that taste quite a bit. It's the taste of my brother in my memories. Thinking that I might never taste it again makes me a bit sad, that's all."
"Heh. The taste of your brother? Is that really all?" Jackson coldly interjected. He never expected that the answer that had troubled him all night, preventing him from falling asleep peacefully, would turn out to be so simple. In the end, it was just his delusion.
Lillian felt extremely uncomfortable. She didn't know what kind of answer he wanted from her by constantly pressing her.
'Could it be that he wanted me to tell him that my emotional breakdown was because she loved him and was too attached to him?' Lilian thought.
She didn't want to be ridiculed again. As their marriage teetered on the brink of collapse, what meaning did love still hold? It only made her appear more pathetic and ridiculous.
"Yes!" Lillian frowned, her expression showing impatience.
Jackson's handsome face turned pale. As he wanted to say something more, Daisy and Martin rushed over with two servants in tow. The servants discovered in the morning that Jeffrey was not at home, causing a commotion.
Just as they were looking for Jeffrey, Jackson's call had come through.
Daisy was anxious, rushing over and glaring at Lillian as if to an enemy. She cursed, "Lillian, isn't harming one of my sons enough for you? Now why you want to harm Jeffrey too? Don't you know how frail Jeffrey is in this cold weather? You let him come looking for you in the middle of the night, what is your intention?"
Being severely scolded, Lilian showed no expression. She kept her head down and remained silent.
No matter what she said, Daisy would still blame her for this matter. Moreover, she felt a bit guilty. After all, Jeffrey had indeed sneaked out in the middle of the night because of her, and now seeing him like this made Lillian feel very uncomfortable.
"Speak up!" Daisy grew increasingly angry, raising her hand to slapLillian.
Jackson intervened. Daisy's hand brushed his face, dislodging his black mask.
He had put on the mask as soon as he got out of the car, and now the wound on his chin was clearly visible.
Daisy was shocked as she asked, "What happened to your face? Were you bitten? Lillian!"
Martin also stared at Jackson's chin with a furrowed brow, saying, "This is outrageous!"
Jackson's expression was cold as he raised his hand to put the mask back on and firmly stood in front of Lillian, speaking coldly, "Mom, do you know why Jeffrey ran out?"
Daisy shouted, "How would I know? It must be because of Lillian again..."
Jackson cut off Daisy's words, "He ran out because he overheard you and your friends' conversation, knowing about my divorce with Lillian. It has nothing to do with anyone else."
Daisy's expression turned terrible as she asked, "Are you saying that all of this is my fault?"
She was furious, and Martin spoke in a deep voice, "It's pointless to blame anyone now. Let's wait for the doctor's diagnosis."
He then sternly addressed Jackson, "And you, watch your attitude towards your mother!"
Seeing this, Lillian didn't want to stay here any longer. She whispered, "I'm going to get some fresh air."
She turned and headed towards the elevator. Jackson turned around and was about to follow but was stopped by Martin.
Martin scolded, "You need to set limits even if you're spoiling her. Your dignity represents the Frane family and the Sar Group. It's not something that can be damaged casually."
Jackson shrugged it off, saying, "Dad, it's just mutual consent between a husband and wife. There's no need to make a fuss."
Martin's face darkened, but Jeffrey's condition was more important at this moment. He held back his displeasure and inquired about Jeffrey's condition.
When Jackson turned around, Lillian had already left. Lillian had made her way to the garden downstairs. She sat on a bench and placed her hand on her belly.
She wasn't certain if the baby in her womb could aid in Jeffrey's treatment, but she had decided that when she went abroad for her delivery, she would ask the doctor to conduct a blood type test. If her child could indeed be a match for Jeffrey, it would serve as a preventive measure for him.
Lillian murmured, "Baby, you want to help Uncle Jeffrey too, don't you? If you can save Uncle Jeffrey, you'll be a little hero as soon as you're born."
"Lillian? Why are you sitting here?"
Lillian was talking softly to her belly when a familiar voice sounded not nearby.
She looked up and saw Barry. He wasn't wearing his white coat. Instead, he had on a long, dark grey coat, which made him look refined and gentle. The light gold frame of his glasses glinted softly in the sunlight.
This was the first time Lillian saw him since she had found out about the Halls' proposal four years ago.
In an instant, she restrained the gentle smile on her face, stood up, and subconsciously took a step back to the side of the chair.
Barry observed her body language, and the smile at the corner of his lips gradually faded.
