Chapter 463 Inopportune Love
Jackson grabbed her shoulder.
Lillian turned around, annoyed. "What now, Mr. Frane? Still not satisfied? Want me to apologize to Star again?"
"No need, I already did."
Lillian sneered and shook him off. "No thanks!"
Her nails scratched his neck, leaving a red mark.
Jackson's face darkened. "Lillian!"
She chuckled. "Sorry, didn't mean to."
Just a moment ago, she refused to apologize when asked. Now, even though Jackson didn't need her apology, she was still intent on pushing his buttons.
Jackson's face turned livid, but Lillian walked away.
Jackson felt a headache coming on and stopped, but then his expression hardened.
"Watch out!"
Lillian heard Jackson's shout and turned instinctively.
Before she could see him, everything went black as Jackson pulled her into his arms.
There was a dull thud and the sound of something heavy hitting the ground.
"The billboard fell and hit someone!"
"Sorry! Are you okay? We'll take responsibility."
Shocked cries and apologies erupted from the crowd.
Protected by Jackson, Lillian glanced down at the heavy billboard lying on the steps.
It was clear it had just missed her, landing heavily on Jackson's back. She heard him grunt in pain.
Lillian lifted her head from Jackson's embrace and looked at him.
Jackson's face was pale, his expression pained, but his eyes were full of concern.
"Are you okay?" he asked.
Lillian felt a lump in her throat, her emotions mixed.
"You're bleeding, sir. I'm really sorry. You should go to the hospital."
The shop owner kept apologizing.
Lillian shook her head, wriggling out of Jackson's hold. She saw that blood had already soaked through the dark fabric of his suit jacket on his right shoulder and back.
"Let's go to the hospital."
In the emergency room, Jackson's shirt was off, revealing fresh injuries on his shoulder and bruises on his back.
They looked as if someone had beaten him with a stick, the marks grotesque and alarming.
Lillian pressed her lips. "Did Grandma do this?"
"Yes," Jackson replied flatly.
"Because of the wedding?" Lillian asked.
She didn't know when Lyra had beaten Jackson, but judging by the injuries, it must have been on the wedding day.
Jackson met her questioning gaze and shifted slightly, turning his back so she wouldn't have to see the bruises and scars. He simply said, "It's because of the wedding, and because I refused to divorce."
Gemma saw him take Lillian from State Court and called Lyra.
Lyra went to the Peace Mansion while Lillian was asleep.
Lyra said forcing Lillian to stay would only push her further away and advised him to let go.
Jackson refused, so Lyra made him kneel and beat him with a stick.
Lillian was silent for a long while, her eyes fixed on Jackson's pained expression. Her voice was tinged with bitterness as she said, "Jackson, why are you doing this?"
Four years ago, Lyra made Jackson marry her; he refused and got beaten.
Now, Lyra wanted him to divorce, and he refused again.
When she was there, he wouldn't come to her.
When she wanted to leave, he pursued her relentlessly.
Inopportune love was destined to be unfulfilled.
