Chapter 580

Lillian's face went beet red. She bit her lip, shoved her chair back, and got up.

"Bathroom break."

She bolted out of there.

Jackson wiped the corner of his mouth, spotting a bit of blood on his finger. Without a word, he grinned and stood up too.

"She's pregnant, might need a hand. I'll check on her. Enjoy your food."

They left one after the other. Anouk turned to Ambrose and said, "Ambrose, see? Even if they live apart, they still dig each other. You shouldn't meddle in their business. Sticking up for Mrs. Frane might just tick her off, and she might not even care!"

Ambrose's face stayed stone-cold. He took a sip of his drink and said, "She wouldn't."

Lillian wasn't that kind of person. He was just trying to make Jackson see all the crap Lillian had to deal with behind the scenes.

If Jackson couldn't handle that, then he had no business chasing after Lillian.

Anouk snorted, "How do you know she wouldn't? Since when did you get so tight with her? I had no clue."

Ambrose poured Anouk a glass of juice. "Just eat your food."

Anouk pouted, "I'm just worried you'll get hurt! Otherwise, who'd bother with you? Grandpa, look at Ambrose!"

She whined to Oberon, who smiled and said, "Ambrose, Lillian's great, but I think she still likes Mr. Frane."

Anouk nodded eagerly. "See, even Grandpa says so. Ambrose, instead of mooning over Lillian, who's got someone else in her heart, why not look at me? I'm pretty too."

Anouk propped her chin and stared at Ambrose, batting her eyes.

Ambrose glanced at her and said, "I've always seen you as a sister!"

Anouk pouted, "But I heard Mr. Frane and Mrs. Frane were like siblings before."

"It's different, Anouk. Don't be silly!" Ambrose shook his head, serious.

Lillian joined the Frane family when she was eight. Even if Jackson treated her like a sister back then, he knew she wasn't his real sister.

But it was different with Ambrose and Anouk.

Ambrose was adopted by Ophelia before Anouk was born. To him, Anouk had always been like a real sister since day one.

So, no matter how Anouk confessed, he always thought she was joking.

There was no chance between them.

Anouk's eyes welled up, and she clenched her fists. "It's not different at all. You're too much!"

She shoved her chair and ran out.

Ambrose shook his head and didn't go after her.

Oberon sighed but kept quiet.

Ambrose wasn't their biological grandson, so if he and Anouk got together, they'd be thrilled.

After all, Ambrose grew up with them and was totally dependable, no question about his character.

But Ambrose clearly had no romantic feelings for Anouk, and that couldn't be forced.

Oberon wouldn't use the debt of raising him to guilt-trip Ambrose.

"Oberon, why isn't Ophelia back yet?"

Flora kept glancing at the door, uneasy since Lillian hadn't returned.

Oberon placed a donut in her bowl and said, "Here, eat this. If Ophelia doesn't come back soon, we'll go find her together."

Flora quickly dug into her food, and Oberon looked at Ambrose and said, "Ambrose, tell me more about Lillian. We all like her a lot."

Ambrose didn't know everything about Lillian, as he hadn't done a deep dive into her life.

What he knew were bits and pieces he picked up because he was interested in her.

He gave Oberon a quick rundown of Lillian's background, and Oberon said sympathetically, "She's had it rough. Take good care of her."

Jackson quickly followed her out. He waited outside the restroom for a long time but didn't see Lillian come out.

Oberon, noticing they hadn't returned, sent Ambrose to look for them.

When Ambrose found Lillian, she was standing under a tree, watching two little birds in the branches.
