Chapter 461 Refuse
"I want to leave him, but he won't let go! I've made up my mind, and I see through your intentions. Instead of provoking me, why not help me?"
It was clear Star hadn't expected Lillian to divulge such details. Her stirring of the coffee came to a jolting halt.
"Help you?"
"Use the Price family's power to get me out of Miracalia. Jackson won't divorce, and a lawsuit won't help. Once I'm gone, you can get close to Jackson. When you two develop feelings, I'll bring up the divorce again. He won't be so stubborn then, and the court will see the marriage is over. It's a win-win, Miss Price. Will you help me leave?"
Lillian reached out her hand to Star.
She wanted to leave without dragging Barry down like last time. She figured the Price family would be happy to see this happen.
Star's eyes locked onto Lillian's outstretched hand, but after a prolonged moment of hesitation, Star's eyes darted away.
Finally, she smiled helplessly. "Lillian, you misunderstand me. Jackson and I were engaged since childhood. We talked about everything back then. I always played the role of his bride. We even wore bride and groom outfits and took pictures.
"Girls give their hearts away early. Honestly, I saw Jackson as my future husband since I was a kid and looked forward to marrying him.
"So, in that critical moment, I gave up my chance to escape for him.
"All these years, I've endured torment, always thinking of Jackson. I believed he would come to save me one day, and that's what kept me going.
"But when I came back and found out he was married and has a baby, I kept telling myself we had missed our chance. Although it was regrettable, I never thought of ruining your relationship.
"Lillian, I can't agree to your request, and I can't help you."
Lillian withdrew her hand, slowly clenching it into a fist.
She looked at Star's flawless performance, cold sweat seeping from her palm.
Star was more composed than she imagined. She claimed she didn't want to interfere, but every word expressed her deep feelings for Jackson.
Lillian thought ,'Every word feels like a stab to my heart. How could this not be considered interference?'
Star's refusal was merely a sign of caution.
She knew that if Jackson ever found out it was the Price family that facilitated her escape, his disgust for her would only grow.
But Lillian was sure that even if Star didn't want to get involved, she wouldn't tell Jackson about her plan to escape.
Lillian was also betting that Star would eventually be unable to refuse her proposal.
"Since you remember everything and didn't lose your memory, why didn't you inform your family to bring you back? Why was there no news from you all these years?" Lillian asked.
Lillian found it strange beyond measure. Star had been no child when the incident occurred, around eleven or twelve years old.
Yet, as the topic was broached, Star's face drained of color, turning an ashen shade in an instant.
She lowered her head, and tears suddenly rolled down.
Lillian frowned, her heart racing.
This was a familiar scene.
Sure enough, she heard footsteps behind her.
Lillian turned around and saw Jackson striding quickly towards them, with Daisy following behind him.
"Star! It really is Star, my child! You're finally back. You've suffered all these years; why are you crying? Lillian! What did you do to Star?"
Daisy was very excited to see Star.
She quickly overtook Jackson, rushed to Star's side, and hugged her.
