Chapter 582
Lillian whipped her head around and spotted Jackson strutting down the hallway.
Jackson's eyes were sharp and icy, giving off this vibe that screamed "don't mess with me."
Lillian felt a pang of guilt, but she was more freaked out about what Jackson might do to Ambrose.
She quickly stepped up, grabbed Jackson's arm, and blurted out, "It's nothing, I've just been out for a bit. Let's head back."
Jackson looked a bit taken aback but also kinda happy that Lillian's tiny hand was clutching his arm.
Her hand looked so delicate against the dark fabric of his suit, her nails turning a cute pink from the pressure.
But the big deal was, she was pulling him closer, not pushing him away.
All his anger, suspicion, and irritation just melted away because of her gentle touch.
Jackson never thought a woman could mess with his emotions like this, but he was cool with it.
He turned his hand to hold Lillian's and, feeling pretty generous, glanced back at Ambrose and said, "Mr. Kelly, you should head back too."
When they got back to the private room, Anouk was already there, sitting in Lillian's old seat, chatting with Oberon and Flora.
Jackson seemed to have a thing about seating arrangements. Seizing the moment, he yanked Lillian to sit in his old seat next to Oberon.
He plopped down on Lillian's other side and quickly told the waiter to switch the tableware.
By the time Ambrose walked in a moment later, the seats were already shuffled around.
Lillian felt super embarrassed by Jackson's childish antics and couldn't even look at Ambrose.
Later, Oberon swapped seats with Flora, who had been eyeing Lillian, making her feel all kinds of awkward.
After finally wrapping up the meal and leaving the private room, Oberon's assistant was waiting outside and handed a bag to Oberon.
Oberon took it and handed it to Jackson, saying, "Jackson, got a little something for you. Take it home and give it a good look."
Jackson took it, seemed like a few books, and raised an eyebrow, nodding. "Thanks, Mr. Oberon Kelly. I'll check them out."
Oberon then warmly said to Lillian, "Lillian, Flora and I really like you. Flora sees you as her own kid, which is just amazing. We'll be hanging around Miracalia for a bit, so you gotta come see us often. If you ever feel down, don't hesitate to tell us. We've got your back."
Lillian saw Oberon and Flora to their car. Flora still held her hand, teary-eyed, not wanting to let go.
Lillian added her on Facebook and promised Flora could video call her anytime she missed her. Only then did Flora agree to leave.
Jackson drove Lillian home. In the car, Lillian, curious, asked him, "What gift did Mr. Oberon Kelly give you?"
Jackson picked up the bag beside him and pulled out three books.
Lillian glanced at them and then burst into laughter.
"How to Be a Good Husband"
"Essential Qualities of a Good Man"
"How to Take Care of Your Wife"
"What are these? Seriously, who writes these books?" she asked, laughing.
Jackson's gaze lifted from the books, his deep eyes locking onto the smiling Lillian beside him.
His eyes sparkled and he guessed, "Maybe Oberon wrote them himself?"
Lillian chuckled. "Let me see. He is something else."
She reached for the books, but Jackson didn't let go.
Jackson gently tightened his grip on the books, causing Lillian to lose her balance and tumble into his arms.
She lifted her head from his chest, her eyes a bit dazed, and met Jackson's deep, endless gaze.
He looked at her with such love, his deep blue eyes clearly reflecting her small face.
The air grew thin, and Lillian froze.
Jackson's Adam's apple bobbed slightly, his voice dry. "Lillian, it's been a long time since you smiled at me like that."
A relaxed, light-hearted smile.
