Chapter 745
Lillian had no idea how she managed to finish that meal.
The atmosphere was so strange throughout that she never found the right moment to ask Jackson.
When they left the private room, the front desk staff even gave Lillian a participation prize—a giant white teddy bear.
Lillian struggled to take it, and Jackson reached out to help.
The stuffed animal, which was too big for her to hold, was easily carried by Jackson, looking like a cute accessory next to his tall and upright figure.
His aura was dignified and extraordinary, but the sight of him in a sharp suit holding a cuddly teddy bear was so incongruous that it drew the attention of passersby.
Being with him always made her feel immense pressure.
Lillian took a step to leave quickly, but Jackson stood still and asked the front desk staff.
"Have our contest photos been posted online?"
"They have, sir. People might already be liking and voting for you."
"Where exactly can we check the voting results?" Jackson asked in great detail.
The staff was a bit surprised. Their restaurant was high-end, frequented by wealthy and high-status couples.
Money was never an issue.
There were rarely guests so concerned about the results and prizes of such promotional activities.
Especially the man in front of her, who clearly had an extraordinary aura, was supposed to care little about that. His commanding presence was unmatched among all the customers.
That such a man would care about a contest?
Jackson tapped the counter lightly, bringing the staff back to her senses.
"Please wait a moment, I'll show you where to check."
The staff took out her phone and opened Twitter, explaining it to Jackson in detail.
Lillian took a few steps, then turned back to see Jackson still talking to the staff.
She hesitated but walked over and tugged at him. "Let's go, stop asking."
These promotional activities were often just gimmicks, rarely offering any real surprise prizes.
Jackson nodded slightly to the staff, indicating he understood, and then followed Lillian.
Jackson said seriously, "Since we participated, I must win a prize for you! No one peeled more or better than I did, and even if they did, they couldn't have done it with as much care."
He even did the plating.
Lillian turned to look at him, seeing Jackson's competitive spirit, and her heart inexplicably started to race again.
She found this side of Jackson somewhat endearing.
Especially with a giant teddy bear under his arm.
From head to toe, walking down the street, he looked like someone trying to woo a girl.
Lillian quickly looked away, "Yes, yes, you're the best. You'll definitely win. Go for it!"
Jackson's thin lips curved slightly. Of course, he would win.
He would check the voting results when he got back and have Terry instruct the staff to secretly vote for him.
He didn't just want to win; he wanted to win by a landslide.
To show Lillian his capabilities.
What Jackson didn't expect was that with thousands of employees at Star Group, Terry's mobilization would crash the restaurant's small website server.
But that's a story for another time.
Leaving the restaurant, Jackson looked at Lillian.
"Didn't you say you had something to ask me?"
Lillian stopped, unsure if she should ask directly.
When it came to Taylor, she always found it hard to stay composed.
She took a deep breath, then looked up at Jackson and said.
"Last night, Mike told me on the way home that you visit the cemetery every week. Who are you visiting?"
Jackson hadn't expected Lillian to ask this.
Last night, after Mike safely dropped Lillian off, he called Jackson to inform him, but he didn't mention letting anything slip.
Jackson was silent for a moment before saying, "Just as you think, I go to see our Taylor."
Almost instantly, Lillian's throat tightened.
Her face turned pale, and her eyes reddened.
"Why didn't you tell me? You can't do this."
She was Taylor's mother. But she had never visited her baby.
She always thought Taylor was stillborn and treated as a stillbirth.
When she woke up, Jackson never mentioned visiting Taylor.
When she asked where Taylor was, Jackson just remained silent, telling her to rest and not think about it.
Lillian's emotions spiraled out of control, and Jackson panicked.
He stepped forward to hug her but realized he was still holding the teddy bear.
He had to use one arm to pull her into his embrace, his voice low as he comforted and explained.
"I'm sorry, it's my fault. I didn't tell you on purpose. You were too heartbroken then, and I wanted you to get through the grief quickly."
Taylor was so small and lifeless that even he couldn't accept it.
How could Lillian?
So Jackson hid the fact that he had arranged Taylor's burial, not wanting her to see and break down further.
When Taylor was buried, he considered telling Lillian.
But by then, Lillian had postpartum depression and was in poor health, so he thought it wasn't the right time to tell her.
"Why didn't you tell me! I don't even know where Taylor is. You made me look like a ridiculous mother! Taylor will blame me for never visiting him!"
Lillian buried her face in Jackson's chest, clutching his shirt, her tears quickly soaking through.
Jackson patted her back, "No, he won't. I told Taylor everything. He's so good and understanding. If he blames anyone, it will be me."
"Take me to see him, take me!"
"Tomorrow..."
"No, I want to go now!" Lillian shook her head, pulling away from Jackson's embrace. She wiped her tears, gradually calming down.
Jackson looked at her, meeting her still-red and sorrowful eyes. How could he refuse her?
He nodded, "Okay, we'll go now. But you can't cry anymore. I don't want Taylor to blame me for messing with you when he sees you for the first time."
Lillian's nose tingled again, worried Jackson might change his mind, she quickly nodded.
"I won't cry." Lillian then realized they were still at the restaurant entrance.
This restaurant was in the busiest part of Miracalia, with many people passing by and looking over.
Thinking about how she had just cried in Jackson's arms, Lillian felt embarrassed.
Jackson stuffed the giant teddy bear into her arms, "Don't worry, the bear is covering you. No one can see."
Lillian buried her tear-streaked face into the plush toy, feeling as if Jackson had warmed her cold heart.
