Chapter 99 Lillian Born to Be Wild
After having breakfast, Lillian got into the car and Shirley's call came in. She saw a message in the community group and got extremely worried, so she asked for leave from the crew and rushed out.
Lillian met Shirley at a café, but before they could say much, the landlord called with a very unpleasant tone, demanding Shirley to return immediately.
Lillian accompanied Shirley back to the community, only to find that the landlord had thrown all their belongings outside in a mess. Moreover, the landlord refused to refund over four months of rent.
"The house almost turned into a haunted house. It's already a favor to you that I didn't sue you! Renting to people like you is like inheriting bad luck for eight generations! Do you still want a refund? Dream on!" The landlord, a nearly 200-pound fat woman, stood with her hands on her hips, looking fierce.
"What do you mean by 'people like us'?" Shirley was very angry. She understood the landlord's anger and came back with a sincere attitude to resolve the issue through negotiation. But the landlord's rude attitude and insults were unbearable.
"Acting indecently and causing trouble with men, how dare you ask me for anything?"
The landlord looked down on Lillian as if she was something dirty.
She said Shirley could stay, but not Lillian. Shirley exploded and grabbed the fat landlord, dragging her downstairs.
"Do you lack independent thinking? You're blaming the victim, you know? Come with me!" Shirley was strong, and the fat landlord stumbled along, a bit scared, eventually sitting on the stairs crying.
"She's hitting me! She's killing me!" The landlord wanted to scare Shirley off, but Shirley turned around, rolled up her sleeves, and coldly smiled.
"Alright! Did you say I hit and killed you? Today, I'll show you my fighting skills!"
Lillian held her back, looking anxious. "Don't! You are the eight-time champion of martial arts across the globe, a woman who can defeat anyone with your fists! Even your lightest punch could break two legs. Do you remember the last time you were provoked by that thug and he ended up paralyzed? Luckily, you were a minor at the time and didn't leave a criminal record. Please stay calm!"
Shirley turned back, looking puzzled. Was she really that powerful?
Although she hesitated for a moment, she quickly smirked and said, "Let go! I must teach her a lesson today, and someone will take care of the aftermath!"
The landlord was not easy to deceive, but she recalled seeing a few medals and trophies while packing up the girls' things, so it was highly possibly that Shirley knew martial arts.
She swallowed nervously, and her throat was tight.
"Don't scare me! This house is mine, and I don't want to rent it out!"
"You signed a lease agreement. During the lease term, you have no right to evict tenants without the consent of the parties involved." a familiar and clear voice sounded from behind.
Lillian turned around and saw Barry, dressed in a gray suit, walking up the stairs.
Meeting her surprised gaze, he slightly curved his eyes behind the lenses and addressed the landlord.
"I am their lawyer, here to handle this incident."
Barry exuded an elite aura, which combined the rigorous and calm demeanor of a doctor with that of a lawyer.
The landlord's gaze became more uncertain. Shirley, dissatisfied, pulled Barry aside and raised her fist.
"You came too early. Go downstairs first. Let me deal with her, and you can come up later to settle things."
Barry was momentarily speechless and then turned to the landlord. "If an incident occurs, it indicates that the house has safety hazards. Terminating the contract is even more inappropriate. If you refuse to refund the rent, legal proceedings will be the only option."
The landlord's defenses crumbled, and she shouted, "I'll refund!"
Barry looked at Shirley, who said, "As long as the rent is refunded, I'm satisfied. Let's forget about the penalty."
After the incident, it might be difficult to rent out the house soon.
Shirley had planned to renew the lease for another year, thinking that by then, the matter would have passed, and the landlord would not suffer any losses. However, the landlord's attitude was unexpected.
After transferring the money, the landlord stood up to leave, but Shirley raised her foot and leaned against the wall to block her.
"Apologize!"
The landlord hesitated, quickly turned around, and said to Lillian, "I'm sorry."
Shirley put her foot down, and the landlord rushed upstairs and slammed the door shut as if she were being chased by a ghost.
