Chapter 462 I'm an Ill-mannered Child

Jackson had always said that Daisy treated Star like her own daughter and would have preferred it if Star had been the one to return all those years ago.

At that moment, he seemed spot on.

Daisy, holding Star, looked both distressed and protective, like she was holding her own child.

Lillian thought about how she had tried to please Daisy for years without ever hearing a kind word and felt utterly ridiculous.

She just couldn't get along with Daisy.

"I'm just sitting here; what could I possibly do to her? She's almost thirty, not a kid. How could I bully her?"

Daisy's face went pale as Lillian bluntly accused her.

She angrily looked at Jackson.

"Jackson, did you see how rude she was to me? She's so sharp-tongued, lacking any grace or sense. How am I supposed to like her? She's rude and nowhere near Star's level!"

Lillian turned her head and looked mockingly at Jackson.

Star was already crying miserably, waiting for Jackson to get angry.

However, Jackson frowned and simply said to Daisy, "Mom, you didn't even ask what happened before blaming my wife. If you want her to respect you, you should at least be fair to her."

Daisy was at a loss for words, her expression darkening further.

Lillian didn't expect Jackson to defend her, but she still turned her head away when Jackson looked at her, not wanting to give him any response.

With Star around, she and Jackson couldn't have a peaceful life.

She had already decided to leave; nothing mattered anymore.

"Mrs. Daisy Frane, please don't let my presence be the cause of any conflict between you and Jackson. I was merely having a casual conversation with Lillian," Star interjected, wiping her tears and reaching out to Daisy.

Her behavior truly matched Daisy's description of her as gentle, modest, and understanding.

"You're crying so sadly; how could it be a normal conversation? Don't be afraid; tell me everything, and I'll stand up for you."

Star anxiously explained, "Mrs. Daisy Frane, Lillian just asked me why I hadn't been in touch all these years. I was just overwhelmed by my experiences and started crying."

However, Daisy became even more furious, slapping the table.

"How is that not bullying? Anyone with half a brain would know that Star must have had no choice but to lose contact. I think you're just trying to rub salt in the wound!"

Daisy glared at Lillian. "Apologize to Star right now."

Lillian stood up and said calmly, "I didn't realize Miss Price was so emotionally fragile. I apologize for my thoughtless question earlier. Is that enough?"

"Is that how you apologize?"

Daisy's anger was far from subsiding as she turned her gaze to Jackson.

Lillian had been on her way out, but Jackson's tall frame was blocking the exit, effectively trapping her.

She looked up at him, and Jackson's eyes, moving from Star's tear-streaked face to Lillian, spoke volumes.

"Lillian, whether intentional or not, it's only polite to apologize when you hit a nerve."

Lillian tightly clutched her bag, worried she might lose control and scratch his handsome face.

Even though she was utterly disappointed in Jackson, she couldn't suppress the fury rushing through her veins at this moment.

She faintly smiled. "I'm an ill-mannered child, not as gracious as Miss Price. I won't apologize."

She forcefully pushed past Jackson, ignoring Daisy's angry accusations behind her.

"What a disgrace, marrying such a wife, it's so embarrassing…"

"Mom! That's enough." Jackson interrupted Daisy sternly.

Daisy finally fell silent, and Jackson looked at Star and said, "Lillian didn't know about your experiences over the years. She was just curious and meant no harm."

Star smiled gently and waved her hands in a fluster.

"Jackson, you don't have to do this. I already said it was my fault. Lillian is still young and grew up spoiled by you. It's normal for her to have a temper. I'm fine, you should go after her. She's pregnant, don't let anything happen to her. It's a good chance for Mrs. Daisy Frane and me to catch up after all these years."

Jackson nodded and turned to chase after Lillian.

"I really don't know what that bitch did to Jackson!" Daisy said angrily while Star looked thoughtfully at Jackson's hurriedly departing figure.

Lillian stormed out of the café, her pace quickening.

Despite her efforts to escape, Jackson's footsteps soon caught up, prompting Lillian to speed up even more.
