Chapter 534
When Star reached out, Jackson stood up straight, avoiding her movement and pulling his hand away from her grasp.
"Wipe your face." He handed Star a wet tissue.
Star touched her face and felt the tear stains, then sat up awkwardly.
She wiped her face clean, as if fully awake now, and said anxiously and guiltily, "Jackson, where's my dad? Is he okay?"
Jackson frowned slightly, a flash of irritation and impatience in his eyes. "He fell ill and is resting in the next room."
Not long after the police left, Dominic also fainted.
That was why Jackson was held up.
Star looked anxious and tried to get out of bed, but fell back onto it weakly.
Jackson said in a deep voice, "You should rest first. Your dad's condition has stabilized. The nurse will notify you when he wakes up."
Star nodded obediently, her eyes filled with helplessness, and she cried, "Jackson, my dad is sick, and I have no idea how to handle my mom's funeral. Can you please take care of it? Just for Henry's sake, okay?"
She bit her lip, and seeing Jackson remain silent, she sobbed again, "I know my mom did terrible things, but she's dead now. Shouldn't her sins be forgiven? My mom wronged Lillian, but she never wronged you. She always cared for you..."
Star wanted to convince Jackson to agree because if he did, this matter would be completely in the past for him.
Susan's cause of death would also be covered up. Star didn't want to be criticized for having a murderer as a mother.
But Jackson interrupted her, asking coldly,"Harming my wife and child, in your eyes, doesn't count as hurting me?"
Star froze, waving her hands helplessly. "No, that's not what I meant. I'm sorry, I didn't consider your feelings. I was being unreasonable.
"I just think my mom died with guilt and remorse. I only hope you can forgive her."
Jackson's expression was cold. "I won't forgive. The most I can do is not take it out on others."
Star nodded despondently. At this moment, Dominic's voice came from the doorway. "Star, let's keep your mom's funeral simple. I'll handle it. I can manage, so let's not trouble Jackson."
Star quickly got out of bed and went to support Dominic. "Dad, you're awake? Are you okay?"
Dominic looked much older, his back hunched, and his hospital gown hanging loosely on him.
He shook his head reassuringly at Star, then looked at Jackson with a long sigh. "Jackson, I have one last request. Can we keep Susan's cause of death a secret? Star has just been found after being missing for years, and the rumors about her are already terrible. If Susan's cause of death is exposed, how will Star live and find a partner?"
Star cried, "Dad, I'm not afraid. I can bear it. Their insults give me some comfort."
Jackson's expression was impatient. "This matter won't be widely publicized."
Star was delighted, thinking Jackson still cared about her feelings.
But the next second, Jackson said coldly, "The two companies are deeply collaborating. If this gets out, it would be too detrimental to the partnership."
Star's secret joy was instantly doused like a bucket of cold water.
She didn't dare show her disappointment and looked up at Jackson gratefully.
"Jackson, thank you. No matter the reason, you preserved my mom's reputation."
