Chapter 780
"Speak up!"
Seeing Shirley remain silent for a long time, Gray impatiently frowned and said.
Shirley suppressed the bitterness in her heart and smiled at Gray.
"Mr. Flores, it's good that you don't hate me out of love. I can't bear that."
Her nonchalant attitude made Gray's face instantly darken. He angrily grabbed Shirley's wrist.
He wanted to ask Shirley if she had no regrets at all after breaking up with him, if she was so indifferent, and why she was in such a hurry to go on blind dates.
But just as he was about to speak, there was a knock on the door.
"Mr. Flores, the doctor is here. We're coming in."
Shirley quickly got off the bed and away from Gray.
The doctor then pushed the door open and walked in with a medical kit.
Shirley quickly stepped back a few steps, standing by the sofa to make room for the doctor.
The doctor approached, "Mr. Flores, lie down. I'll listen to your heart first."
He reached for the stethoscope and was about to bend down when Gray stopped him.
"No need for that. It's not an internal injury."
"Isn't it vomiting and diarrhea?" The doctor looked puzzled.
Gray glanced at Shirley, "I'm about to get examined. Do you want to stay and watch?"
Shirley didn't mind; after all, she had seen it before.
If the doctor had come a bit later, she might have already pulled down Gray's pants herself.
But now that the doctor was here, it felt a bit awkward with three people in the room.
She hesitated for two seconds before saying, "I'll wait outside."
With that, she pulled the maid out of the bedroom with her.
After the door closed, the doctor still looked puzzled.
"Mr. Flores, what's really wrong?"
Gray looked at the doctor and waved his hand, "Nothing's wrong. Just come closer and do as I say."
The doctor's expression instantly stiffened, and after hearing Gray's instructions, his expression became even more indescribable.
Outside, Shirley and the maid waited quietly. Shirley was a bit anxious, so she sent the maid away and pressed her ear against the door to listen.
Unfortunately, she couldn't hear anything, either because the door was soundproof or because Gray was holding back his pain for the sake of his pride.
As she hesitated whether to push the door open a crack to peek inside, someone suddenly tapped her lightly on the back.
At the same time, someone leaned close to her ear and whispered.
"Are you eavesdropping on secrets?"
Shirley clutched her chest in fright and turned to see Lillian looking at her with a gossiping expression.
Shirley breathed a sigh of relief, "Shh."
"Did you really do something to Gray? Broke his bones? How did it get so serious that you had to call a doctor?"
Shirley smiled bitterly. She wished it were just broken bones; that would be easier to deal with.
At worst, she could let Gray break her bones too.
She pulled Lillian to the end of the hallway and asked, "What exactly happened?"
Lillian, seeing her full of questions, found it amusing.
"You're asking me? I went with you to the blind date, but you left me there and disappeared. I had to deal with your date.
"I checked the restaurant's surveillance and found you. When I arrived, I saw you hanging on the railing. Before I could say anything, you jumped from the third floor. I'm lucky I don't have a heart condition, or you'd be visiting me in the morgue now."
Shirley was dumbfounded, "I jumped from the third floor?"
She knocked on her head, unable to remember anything.
Lillian, seeing her confused look, flicked her forehead. "Yes, luckily you fell into the pool! You should drink less in the future; it was terrifying."
This time she fell into the pool; next time, who knows, she might run naked on the street?
"No wonder I woke up in pain. Did you save me? Lillian, thank goodness for you."
Shirley moved to hug Lillian, but Lillian raised her hand to block her, looking complicated.
"No, it wasn't me. Gray jumped in after you and pulled you out."
"What? You must be mistaken." Shirley was stunned, instinctively doubting.
She couldn't believe that Gray, with his face full of hatred, would jump into the pool to save her.
It seemed too surreal.
"I saw it with my own eyes, absolutely true. Although Gray has a bad temper and isn't very clear-headed, he has a good heart. I can't deny that. When you jumped, he reached out to grab you but missed, and without hesitation, he jumped in after you."
Lillian recalled the incident at the Sivan Mansion.
Wendy and she fell into the pool simultaneously, and Jackson saved Wendy, leaving her behind.
That time, Gray jumped in and saved her.
In this regard, Gray seemed better than Jackson.
"Shirley, if you haven't moved on, you should talk to Gray today."
Maybe Gray wasn't as heartless towards Shirley as it seemed.
Since she heard that Gray jumped from the third floor to save her, Shirley's mind had been blank.
She instinctively nodded, and at that moment, the bedroom door opened.
Shirley quickly came to her senses and ran over, anxiously asking. "How is he?"
The doctor looked extremely serious. He glanced deeply at Shirley, then at Lillian, who had followed.
He sighed heavily and said to Shirley.
"It's serious. I'm afraid from now on... Ms. James, don't ask. Mr. Flores doesn't want me to tell anyone. If you really want to know, ask Mr. Flores yourself."
The doctor left with a sympathetic look, carrying his medical kit.
Shirley stood there, frozen, her face pale, her mind blank again.
"Shirley? Are you..." Lillian, seeing her expression, spoke with concern.
Shirley turned around, forced a smile, and quickly said. "It's okay. I'll go check on him. I think you're right; I should talk to him."
With that, she pushed the door open, slipped inside, and closed the door.
Lillian, thinking about the doctor's words and Shirley's reaction, found it increasingly strange.
She leaned against the door, just like Shirley had, and listened intently.
As she listened, a shadow loomed over her from behind.
Jackson's voice, with a hint of amusement, sounded in her ear.
"Lillian, eavesdropping is a bad habit. If you want some excitement, we can create some ourselves."
