Chapter 535

Jackson said flatly, "I have something to do."

He was about to leave when Star chased after him. "Jackson, I can't go to work at the company before my mom's funeral."

Jackson stopped in his tracks and looked back at Star.

Star was about to remind him to take care of his health when she heard Jackson say, "You don't need to work at Star Group anymore."

Star was stunned, her expression turning to panic. "Why?"

She stared at Jackson. His eyes always carried a cold detachment when looking at others, but they softened slightly when looking at her.

Star had always thought she was special, but now she realized Jackson's eyes were truly indifferent.

He still harbored doubts about her.

Even without any evidence, even though Susan had completely cleared her of suspicion before she died, Jackson still had reservations about her. Could things never go back to the way they were?

This made Star extremely flustered, and tears began to fall again.

Jackson, however, remained emotionless. "I'm very busy. Following me around, you won't learn much. At Star Group, you're just doing trivial tasks.

"Even if Susan's matter is covered up, there will always be people who know the truth. During this time, there will be no shortage of rumors in Miracalia.

"I suggest you consider going abroad to study after the funeral. Discuss it with your family. If you're interested, I can help with the arrangements."

With that, Jackson didn't linger and quickly left.

His tall, cold figure disappeared, leaving Star in disbelief, unable to accept it.

He actually wanted to send her abroad.

She looked at Dominic. "Dad, he wants me to leave? Does he never want to see me again? He..."

Before she could finish, Dominic's hand lashed out, striking her across the face.

The unexpected blow sent Star sprawling to the floor. Her ears rang, her head spun, and the metallic taste of blood filled her mouth.

She looked up to see Dominic glaring down at her coldly, cursing, "Idiot! Who told you to be a smart aleck?"

Dominic stepped forward, and Star hurriedly scrambled back. She clung to the hospital bed, crying and trying to explain. "It was all Lillian! She must have been deceiving me from the start. She never intended to leave. She was tricking me!

"She had people ready to meet her abroad, waiting for us to make a move, then informed Jackson, planning everything herself. That bitch is too cunning."

Dominic approached, grabbing Star by the throat.

Star was pushed onto the hospital bed, her eyes filled with terrified tears. She whimpered, trying to pry Dominic's hand off, her legs kicking beneath the bed.

Jackson was held up by the morning rush hour traffic.

When he arrived at Elegance Manor, Lillian and Shirley had just finished their gathering and were coming out.

Shirley said she had something to do and had to leave.

Nathan and Barry were both vying to take Lillian home when Jackson's car suddenly stopped in front of Elegance Manor.

Jackson got out of the car and walked briskly towards Lillian.

His expression was grim, his eyes scanning the white teddy bear in Lillian's arms and the "Happy Divorce" sign in Nathan's hand, his gaze icy.

Lillian frowned slightly, her eyes momentarily falling on a scratch on Jackson's neck.

A thin, red line marred his skin, unmistakably the mark of a woman's nails.

Lillian found it amusing. 'Is he trying to cheer me up now because he couldn't cheer up Star?'
