Chapter 583
Her smile hit him right in the feels, making his heart do somersaults.
Like a dude lost in the desert, about to croak from thirst, finally spotting an oasis.
Jackson whispered, lowering his head, all caught up in the moment, dying to kiss her red lips.
But just as he was about to make contact, Lillian threw up her hand.
His kiss landed on her fingertips, sending a jolt through her.
Lillian pulled back and shoved him away, slipping out of his arms. "You're pushing it again!"
She turned to stare out the car window, totally ignoring him.
He said to start over, but they hadn't even wrapped up this chapter, and he was already trying to jump to the next one. No way it was gonna be that easy!
Jackson, though, noticed her ears turning a bit red, and a smirk crept onto his face.
He patted the three books he was holding and grinned, "Alright, I'll hit the books first. Once I finish these, you can quiz me, and then I'll move on to the next step."
Lillian's lips twitched into a slight smile at his words, but then she thought of Shirley, and her smile vanished.
If Shirley was dead set against her getting back with Jackson, she wouldn't hurt Shirley for him.
Jackson had to clean up his own mess.
But when Lillian got back to Elegance Estates that night, Shirley wasn't there. Instead, she found out Shirley had flown to Celestial Bay for an audition.
This audition was for a big role, and Shirley was all in. She went early to prep and might be gone for three to five days.
Lillian didn't want her drama to mess with Shirley's vibe, so she didn't text her about the Jackson situation.
She figured it was better to wait until Shirley got back from Celestial Bay to talk about it. By then, she and Jackson would have their divorce sorted.
Three days later.
Jackson wrapped up his meeting and left the office; it was already past eight.
Terry trailed behind him, rattling off the next day's schedule.
Seeing Jackson head back to the office instead of the elevator, Terry was confused.
Was he pulling another all-nighter?
A few days ago, Jackson was all about self-care. Now, he was working like a maniac.
At least Jackson was the only one working overtime, not dragging everyone else into it.
But as his assistant, when Jackson worked late, Terry felt the heat. Lately, his top Google searches were all about preventing hair loss.
He followed Jackson to the office door, where Jackson stopped and looked back at him.
"You can head home now."
"Want me to stick around and help?"
Jackson gave him a weird look. "I'm working late 'cause I'm about to take divorce leave and paternity leave. Why are you getting involved?"
Terry was speechless.
Divorce leave?
He had never heard of that.
And paternity leave, wasn't that for women?
But since it involved Lillian, Terry didn't dare ask and just forced a smile, turning to leave.
Jackson went into the office, handled a couple of documents, and then his phone rang.
At this hour, Eulalia usually called to update him on Lillian's day. Jackson answered, "Did her foot swelling go down today?"
Yesterday, Eulalia mentioned Lillian's feet were a bit swollen in the afternoon.
Jackson had asked the doctor, who said if there were no other issues, it was probably hormones and didn't need treatment.
Jackson was worried, but on the other end of the line, after a pause, Star's voice came through.
She sounded urgent. "Jackson, it's me! There's a call from Nimbus City; Wendy fell and her water broke. She's going into labor! What should I do? Can you come with me? I'm freaking out here."
