Chapter 384 Reason
Jackson remained silent for a long time, his eyes filled with turbulent emotions that eventually calmed down.
He gently brushed Lillian's reddened eye corner with his thumb and said in a hoarse voice, "I should have been the one to find Star. If it weren't for me back then, she wouldn't have had an accident. I owe her and the Price family."
His face was shrouded in a heavy, lingering gloom and guilt.
Lillian had never seen these emotions in him before.
It was as if Jackson was just an ordinary person, capable of feeling helpless and vulnerable.
However, these emotions were all because of Star.
Lillian still felt somewhat upset, but seeing him like this made her feel bad, too.
Unconsciously, Lillian raised her hand and gently brushed Jackson's slightly lowered eye corner as if trying to smooth away the sorrow and worry there.
"But haven't you already found her now? You even let her stay in our other wedding house and kept her existence from me. Did you ever consider my feelings? How am I supposed to feel about this?" Lillian pressed him, her heart tightening with jealousy, grievance, and anger.
Jackson frowned and asked, "What wedding house?"
Lillian replied, "Serenity Haven Manor."
Jackson asked in shock, "How could that be our wedding house? Isn't our wedding house here?"
Although Jackson didn't come back often after they got married, he wasn't so clueless that he didn't know where their home was.
Lillian looked at Jackson in astonishment, not knowing whether to be angry or happy.
She felt happy because it seemed he genuinely didn't know that Lyra had also arranged for Serenity Haven Manor to be one of their wedding houses.
That was why he had no qualms about letting Star stay there.
She felt angry because it seemed he had never taken this marriage seriously. Otherwise, how could he not know that?
Her eyes were slightly moistened, and a hint of a sarcastic smile appeared on her face.
Lillian elaborated, "Serenity Haven Manor is close to the hospital. Grandma considered that I often visit Max at the hospital, so she chose both that place and the Peace Mansion as our wedding houses. I decorated and designed both places. After they were set up, I made a PPT of the houses and sent it to you. A few days later, you had Terry reply to me, saying they were both great and that I could choose whichever I liked."
At that time, Lillian thought she was finally going to have a home of her own. More importantly, it would be a home that belonged to both her and Jackson.
Lillian spent a lot of effort decorating the two houses, even though Jackson never participated once. But she thought back then, 'Jackson's so busy. I can handle it myself.'
Lillian wanted to create the best home to surprise him. She made a PowerPoint and added a romantic line at the end, "You have a permanent residence in my heart."
She hoped to build a home with him that would hold all her youthful joys and future expectations, where they could grow old together and raise their children.
But clearly, Jackson was indifferent to her feelings. He probably didn't even look at the PowerPoint she made. He just had Terry casually reply to her.
Lillian waited for several days and was happy when she received Terry's reply. She thought she had gained his approval.
"What PPT?" Sure enough, Jackson frowned and asked, his expression completely puzzled.
Lillian felt deeply frustrated. She took a deep breath and thought to herself, 'Don't get angry.'
Suppressing the emptiness and bitterness spreading in her heart, Lillian said, "Even if you didn't know Serenity Haven Manor was our wedding house, I saw with my eyes that day. You broke your promise to pick up Star there and even opened the car door for her yourself. You told me you were in a meeting, but you were actually with Star. What was the point of lying and hiding it to me?"
Jackson's expression darkened slightly as he questioned, "You followed me?"
Lillian, enraged by him, withdrew her hand from his eye corner abruptly, her face cold.
