Chapter 729

Jackson withdrew his gaze and looked down.

Sure enough, when he gently patted Logan, Logan immediately reached out and tightly grasped his finger.

Those tear-filled eyes stared straight at him, as if worried he would leave too.

Logan's clear eyes, which seemed to convey a deep sense of reliance, reminded Jackson of when Lillian first arrived at the Frane Mansion.

Both the look and the shape of the eyes were quite similar.

Jackson suddenly looked at Star and asked in a deep voice, "What time was Logan born?"

Star thought he was just concerned about Logan and smiled gently. She twisted her waist and sat down by the hospital bed, leaning closer to Logan.

"Logan was born around 10:30 PM. At that time, Wendy was rushed to the hospital for an emergency C-section. Although he was premature, Logan was very strong," Star kept talking, subtly moving closer to Jackson.

At that time, Lillian was still on her way to the hospital.

Logan was born much earlier than Taylor, not to mention the two hospitals were over an hour's drive apart.

He had personally handled Taylor's burial, and the image of that small, blue, stiff body flashed before his eyes.

Jackson suddenly withdrew his hand from Logan's grasp, dismissing the unrealistic thoughts.

He came back to his senses and noticed how close Star had gotten.

She was almost sitting next to him, her skirt brushing against his black suit pants.

Jackson's handsome face darkened, and he abruptly stood up.

"Jackson?" Star seemed confused and hurt by his sudden reaction, looking up in surprise.

On the hospital bed, Logan, feeling neglected, started crying again.

Jackson's cold gaze fell on Star, and he warned in a stern voice, "Star, Logan is your brother's child. Your brother died looking for you. If you have any conscience left, you should treat Logan well!"

Star bit her lip. "Jackson, you misunderstand me too deeply. I..."

"He's crying!" Jackson interrupted Star harshly, his face darkening.

Star's face turned pale, and she hurried to pick up and soothe Logan. However, Logan was not cooperative, his small hands constantly slapping and scratching Star.

Star was hit several times, and her hair was pulled into a mess.

Normally, she would have lost her temper and handed Logan over to Celine.

But with Jackson standing right there watching, Star had to suppress her irritation and frustration, continuously trying to calm Logan.

Fortunately, Logan, likely tired from being sick, fell asleep with tears still on his face after crying for a while.

Star let out a long sigh of relief, feeling sore and exhausted.

Just as she was about to put Logan back on the bed, Jackson said in a deep voice, "He feels insecure. If you put him down, he might wake up."

Star's movements froze, and Celine quickly stepped forward. "Ms. Price, why don't I hold Logan instead?"

Star glanced at Jackson's stern profile and forced a smile at Celine. "It's okay, I'll hold him. I don't want to wake him by changing hands."

Star wanted to make a good impression, to show Jackson that Lillian wasn't the only one who could act caring.

She adjusted her posture, trying to appear both elegant and gentle while holding Logan.

This made her even more tired. She gently patted Logan and kissed him on the forehead.

Star turned to look at Jackson, expecting to see a look of approval and gentleness. Instead, her smile froze.

Jackson was clearly no longer looking at her. He was sitting on the couch , legs crossed, sending messages on his phone, with a slight smile on his lips.

The glow from the phone reflected in his eyes, illuminating the light in his eyes—a light that seemed to be reserved for just one person.

Star's eyes filled with jealousy, which she quickly hid by lowering her head.

Even if she couldn't have Jackson, she wouldn't let Lillian get it easily.

Jackson was indeed in contact with Lillian.

Half an hour earlier, Lillian had walked out of the hospital quickly.

The night wind was chilly. She had come in Jackson's car and was about to hail a cab when a blue Aston Martin pulled up in front of her.

Mike got out of the driver's seat, walked around the front of the car, and opened the passenger door for Lillian. "Lillian, get in. Jackson ordered me to take you home."

Lillian was slightly surprised. "Weren't you here to bring your girlfriend to the hospital?"

"She's not as important as Jackson's orders. If I don't get you home safely, Jackson will kill me. It's cold out, get in the car." Mike raised his eyebrows at Lillian.

Lillian continued to refuse. "No need. I'll take a cab. Leaving your girlfriend at the hospital must make her feel terrible."

Mike sighed, "How about I call her and break up with her first?"

Lillian didn't hesitate any longer and quickly got into the car.

Even though Mike changed girlfriends so casually, she didn't want to be the reason for a breakup.

As Mike drove away from the hospital, his phone chimed with a WhatsApp notification.

He glanced at the screen and then looked at Lillian with raised eyebrows. "Lillian, see? Jackson is so worried. He's asking if I've picked you up yet."

Mike sent a couple of voice messages to Jackson.

Jackson quickly replied with a voice message, and Mike played it. Jackson's familiar, low, magnetic voice filled the car. "Alright, drive safely and make sure she's safe!"

Mike chuckled and replied jokingly, "Don't worry, I'll make sure your sweetheart gets home safe and sound."

Lillian felt a bit uncomfortable being teased so openly. She looked at Mike. "Mike, I've divorced him, and there's no chance of reconciliation. You should stop joking about it."

Mike smiled slightly. "Come on, Lillian, won't you consider giving Jackson another chance? You don't know, without you, Jackson has been like a walking corpse for the past four months. Right after you left Miracalia, he, a man so self-controlled, was drinking himself into a stupor every day. Once, he got alcohol poisoning. If the servants hadn't found him in time and taken him to the hospital, he might have died in the Peace Mansion. After two days in the hospital, he stopped drinking but turned into a work machine, spending all his time at the company. He only took time off once a week to visit the cemetery for half a day, with no personal time at all. Before you came back, I hadn't seen him smile even once in these past few months."

Mike, being Jackson's good friend, naturally spoke highly of him.

Lillian didn't want to listen, but every word still found its way into her heart.

"Mike, what do you mean by saying that he visited the cemetery for half a day?" She asked suddenly.
