Chapter 497 Blurt Out
Jackson's fingers trembled. For a second, he thought she was awake.
But she wasn't. She just shifted in her sleep, eyes still closed.
Jackson's heart ached, frustration nearly driving him mad.
'Lilian, do you hate me that much? Even in your dreams, you despise me. But I still feel a bit of joy because you dreamed of me.'
Lilian let out a soft, uncomfortable hum, snapping Jackson back to reality.
Lying on her back, she furrowed her brows, turned to her side, and her legs twitched slightly.
Jackson remembered reading that pregnant women often get leg cramps in the second trimester.
He rubbed his hands together to warm them, then gently massaged her legs under the blanket.
Jackson didn't leave until dawn.
As he left, he used his clothes to smooth out his footprints in the snow.
The wind blew, quickly covering all traces.
The next day, Lilian woke up late.
She expected the Price family's pursuit to keep her awake, but was surprised it didn't; Taylor was also unusually silent.
Lilian had a full night's sleep and felt great. She opened the curtains to a pristine white scene.
The sky was clear, and the snow had stopped.
Lilian stretched, but her gaze froze.
She saw a snowman on the neighbor's terrace about twenty meters away, directly facing her window.
The snowman was roughly half a person tall, with a circular head, a bent red knitted hat, a red scarf, and heart-shaped buttons.
In front of the snowman, pink bell-shaped flowers swayed.
Lilian stared, feeling her heart tighten.
When she was a child, Jackson would help her build a snowman every year, always right outside her window.
But he had little patience, and the snowmen he built were always crooked and not as cute.
Lilian's eyelashes fluttered, and she quickly composed herself, opening the window to wave at the snowman.
A knock on the door brought her back, and she closed the window.
She opened the door to find Ambrose standing outside.
"I'm leaving."
Lilian was surprised. "So soon?"
She felt a bit guilty, thinking she had woken up too late and hadn't even had breakfast with Ambrose.
Ambrose's eyes deepened, a smile forming.
"Can I take that as you wanting me to stay?"
He spoke in a low, magnetic voice, his tone rising slightly.
Lilian's ears grew warm, and she quickly shook her head.
"No, I mean, you just got here yesterday. Don't you want to stay a couple of days to see the sights and have some fun? By the way, the weather is clear today, and there might be an aurora tonight."
Ambrose looked at her anxious explanation, his eyes amused.
"I have other matters to attend to. I just took some time to come see you; this isn't a vacation. Besides, you don't seem very comfortable with me here. But hearing you say that makes me happy. At least it means I'm not entirely unwelcome?"
Lilian felt embarrassed, her face growing warm.
She hadn't expected Ambrose to notice her slight discomfort.
She didn't know what to say. Meeting Ambrose's smiling eyes, she suddenly blurted out, "Do you like me?"
Lilian noticed Ambrose's shocked and bewildered expression and realized her last statement.
Her face turned red, and she wished she could slap herself.
The question made her seem arrogant and awkward.
Especially since she was pregnant, it made her seem narcissistic.
