Chapter 517 Promise

Jackson, however, didn't look at Star. He gently patted Lillian's back, which was heaving slightly with anger, and said, "Pregnant women shouldn't get angry. Even if we get divorced, I won't fight you for Taylor's custody. You are and will always be Taylor's mother! You don't need to worry about what she said."

Lillian felt somewhat comforted by his words, but Star's words just now were simply outrageous, and how could Lillian not be angry?

She turned her head away, protecting her belly, not wanting to look at Jackson.

Even though he explained quickly, Lillian still felt uncomfortable inside.

The weariness on Lillian's face was particularly obvious. Jackson felt that the little progress he had made on the plane to ease the situation was instantly destroyed by Susan and Star.

Jackson's eyes were filled with irritation as he frowned and looked down at Star.

Ignoring her swollen cheeks and pitiful appearance, he said in a deep voice, "Star, I don't like you. I once regarded you as a sister, and I still do. We will never be together. What you said just now was simply ridiculous!"

Star shook her head, looking heartbroken.

"I don't believe it! Jackson, you clearly promised my mom before that you would marry me."

"Mr. Frane, you are a man of your word; have you forgotten what you promised? Give her an explanation," Lillian sneered coldly, not wanting to get entangled with them any longer.

She shook off Jackson and walked away quickly.

Jackson glanced at Harry, who immediately followed Lillian.

Jackson stood still, then slowly squatted and gazed at Star's tear-stained face, his eyes reflecting exhaustion.

He said, "The circumstances under which I made that promise are clear to your parents. Later, I also explained it clearly with Lillian."

"If I had known it would lead to your greed and harm to my wife and child, I would never have agreed!"

"Star, I owe you, but my wife and child don't. I've been trying to make amends all these years, but everyone has their limits. Don't push my limits any further, making me feel that my feelings for the Price family all these years are a joke!"

Star was deeply shocked, her face pale, and tears silently flowed.

Her lips trembled as she grabbed Jackson's coat.

"Jackson, believe me, believe my mom, there must be a misunderstanding, and Lillian wasn't even hurt, right?"

Jackson stared into her pitiful eyes and pulled his coat out of Star's grasp.

A sense of emptiness hit Star, followed by deep pain and confusion.

Jackson leaned in slightly and said in a low voice, "Star, you better truly know nothing about this, or I won't show any mercy. Don't make me regret bringing you back; I'd rather you had died sixteen years ago!"

Jackson's cold, deep voice was right by her ear. Star's body froze, her arms weakened, and she collapsed.

Jackson stood up, didn't look at her, and walked past Susan without looking back.

It wasn't until his figure completely disappeared at the end of the corridor that Star let out a cry of fear.

She crawled up and threw herself at Susan. "Mom, Jackson..."

She wanted to say that Jackson felt so unfamiliar, so terrifying.

Just now, he seemed like a different person, entirely protective of Lillian, with no patience left for the Price family.

But Susan tightly gripped her hand, forcefully reminding her, "Star, let's go home."

Susan's hand was also ice-cold, her palm full of cold sweat.

But Star found solace in it, holding Susan's hand, wrapping the blanket around her, and weeping softly on her lap.

"Mom, you'll protect me, right?"

In the car.

Jackson had just gotten in and was about to instruct Harry to drive when Lillian said, "Let's go to State Court first."
