Chapter 689

On the other end of the line, Jenny's mom, Chloe, quickly chimed in, "Jackson, Jenny is about to get married. If what happened today gets out, the Lewis family will definitely mock and look down on her."

Jackson's face showed his annoyance as he replied coldly, "Instead of blaming me, you should ask her what she did. Teach her a lesson now before she causes a bigger mess. If she gets kicked out of the Lewis Family after the wedding, it'll be even more embarrassing."

Chloe was clearly taken aback by Jackson's bluntness. She took a couple of deep breaths and then gritted her teeth, saying, "Jackson, it was just a small argument between Jenny and Lillian, a minor spat between girls. Is it really necessary to blow it out of proportion? We're all family. Is it right to make things tough for your cousin over an outsider?"

Obviously, Chloe had already talked to Jenny about it.

Lillian knew Jenny would never tell the truth. Since they were kids, Jenny had mastered the art of making herself look innocent, badmouthing others to the elders, downplaying serious stuff, and playing the victim.

Lillian scoffed lightly. She didn't want Jackson to stand up for her and cause trouble with his family, which would make her feel indebted to him.

Lillian leaned over to grab Jackson's phone, intending to handle the conversation with Chloe herself.

But just as she leaned over, the car suddenly made a sharp turn, making her lose balance. Her fingers brushed against Jackson's jawline and lips as she reached for the phone and she ended up falling onto Jackson's lap.

Lillian lay there, momentarily stunned, until she felt Jackson's thigh muscles tense up, the sensation of his muscles straining against his suit pants, and the warmth quickly spreading to her slightly cool fingertips.

Lillian snapped back to reality and quickly tried to push herself up from Jackson's lap. But the car swerved again, causing her to fall back down.

Above her, Jackson's gaze was heavy, and the scent of his cologne became more intense.

Meanwhile, Chloe continued sarcastically, "Jackson, you need to move on after the divorce. Lillian holding onto small grudges shows that she still resents you and our Frane Family. She won't come back to you, so why bother? I know many kind, understanding women. I can set you up on a date."

Jackson looked down at Lillian lying on his lap, her hair spread out, his eyes dim and contemplative, his heart beating steadily.

He barely heard Chloe's words until her last sentence.

Jackson's voice turned cold as he interrupted Chloe, "No need. I've already met the best. I'm not interested in the women you want to introduce."

He spoke coldly, giving Chloe no chance to plead further, and hung up the annoying call.

At the same time, he reached out and gently helped Lillian up.

As Lillian sat up, Jackson's words "met the best" brushed past her ear, his voice suddenly soft and tender, accompanied by warm breath that seemed to seep into her heart.

Lillian quickly brushed off Jackson's hand and sat back, her ears hidden under her disheveled hair, feeling a bit warm.

She couldn't tell if it was from the awkwardness of the situation or from his words. But Lillian was really annoyed with her reaction.

She frowned and looked up at Terry, about to question him when Terry glanced in the rearview mirror, apologizing nervously, "Mrs. Frane, I'm really sorry. Some sports car was weaving in and out of traffic, almost causing two accidents. I'm sorry, are you okay?"

Seeing Terry's anxious and apologetic eyes, Lillian scoffed, feeling more and more like she had gotten into the wrong car.

Before she could say anything, Jackson coldly reprimanded, "Can't even drive properly? No bonus for you this month!"

Terry trembled. "Yes, Mr. Frane."

What else could Lillian say?

Luckily, the car was now slowly entering a high-end neighborhood.

Soon, the car stopped in front of a three-story villa. Jackson got out, saying to Lillian as he closed the car door, "This is the place. It's cold outside, so stay in the car. I'll go check."

Lillian turned to look at the villa. There were lights on the first floor, but no cars parked around. She wasn't sure if Gray had brought Shirley here.

Lillian adjusted her coat and decided to get out of the car.

Whether Shirley was here or not, she didn't want to stay in this car any longer.

Lillian took a few steps, watching Jackson's tall figure walk into the courtyard. Soon, a servant came out, saw Jackson, and quickly approached, saying something and waving their hand.

Lillian frowned slightly. Sure enough, Jackson quickly turned and walked back.

He shook his head. "The servant said they haven't seen Gray. Apparently, Gray hasn't been here for a while since the paparazzi found out about this place. But he has a penthouse a couple of streets away that he's been frequenting. Let's go check there."

Jackson motioned for Lillian to get back in the car.

Lillian found it amusing. Was Jackson, with his busy schedule, really planning to accompany her all night to find Shirley? Was he planning to check all of Gray's properties?

If Jackson really wanted to help her find Shirley, he wouldn't be running around aimlessly. He would have already instructed his people to search.

She felt foolish for being strung along by him. Did he think she was that gullible?

Lillian said calmly, turning to walk towards her own car, "No, maybe Shirley has already gone back."

Jackson said, "The Kelly Family's driver isn't familiar with the area, and it's rush hour. Let me take you back."

At that moment, a car slowly approached, its headlights flashing. Lillian squinted and saw a familiar face in the driver's seat.

She was slightly surprised and smiled, about to walk over.

Jackson also saw who it was—Ambrose.

Jackson suddenly reached out and grabbed Lillian's wrist as she was about to leave.

Lillian frowned and turned back. "Let go. Ambrose is here to pick me up. There's no need for you to take me back."
