Chapter 647
Three hours later, Jackson, fresh out of stomach surgery, looked up from his papers and asked, "Have they left yet?"
Harry checked his watch; it was almost 10 PM. He knew those two guys in Lillian's room were still there.
"Mr. Frane, this is the third time you've asked. The doctor said you need to rest. You just had surgery," Harry reminded him.
He wanted to say, "You're in a hospital bed, not on a stakeout," but Jackson's intense stare shut him up.
Trying to change the subject, Harry stood up. "How about I go check outside Mrs. Frane's room again?"
Jackson's voice was icy. "The hospital doesn't allow visits after 8 PM."
"Yeah, but Barry's a doctor here, so he gets special treatment. And Ambrose left with Flora but came back an hour later with a snack for Mrs. Frane. He probably stayed to chat because she shouldn't sleep right after eating."
Jackson's face darkened. "Visiting hours are there for a reason. Just because he has privileges doesn't mean he can break the rules and disturb patients."
He suddenly got very angry, thinking it wasn't easy for Lillian to endure for two hours. It was almost ten at night; surely Ambrose and Barry wouldn't want to stay overnight?
Harry quickly stood up. "Of course not! I get it!"
Lillian had been sleeping a lot lately. She was weak but in good spirits.
After Ambrose took Flora home, he brought Lillian a healthy meal. Following Barry's advice, Lillian ate small portions frequently, having two meals in two hours.
Ambrose said he'd wait for her to finish eating so he could take the lunch box back and bring more food the next day. He mentioned Flora had given him this task.
Lillian didn't feel right asking him to leave. And once Ambrose stayed, Barry said he was on duty and not busy, so he stayed too.
When the nurse knocked, Lillian had just finished eating, and Shirley had just cleaned the lunch box.
"What's up?" Shirley asked softly as the nurse came in.
The noise caught Barry and Ambrose's attention, and they both looked over.
The young nurse recognized Barry, a star doctor known for his looks and skills. Ambrose, she heard, was a big-shot CEO, and his presence was intimidating.
Blushing slightly, the nurse gathered her courage. "Ms. Young needs to get enough sleep, per Gabriel's orders..."
Actually, the nurses' station had gotten a complaint from another patient's family about the noise.
The nurse didn't dare ask them to leave directly, so she gently reminded them.
Lillian, leaning against the bed, sighed in relief. "Ambrose, Barry, thanks for taking care of me. Shirley's here, so I'm fine. You should both go home and rest. No need to come back tomorrow."
Lillian glanced at Shirley, who quickly packed the dishes and handed them to Ambrose. "Mr. Kelly, here's your lunch box. I'll handle Lillian's meals tomorrow. I have some free time."
Ambrose took the bag with a warm smile and nodded. "Thanks for all your hard work."
His words made it seem like he and Lillian were closer than they actually were.
Shirley sighed inwardly, smiled, and kept quiet.
Ambrose then turned to Lillian. "Get some good rest."
"Okay," Lillian replied.
Barry chimed in, "Lillian, I'll drop by tomorrow when I have some free time."
Without waiting for her response, he turned to Ambrose and raised his hand. "Mr. Kelly, let me show you out. I know this hospital like the back of my hand. I'm here every day, so I'm very familiar with the maternity ward. You can rest easy. As her senior, I'll take good care of her. You're a busy man; no need to come by all the time."
The two men chatted as they left the room.
Shirley saw them to the door, closed it, and returned to Lillian, who looked noticeably more relaxed. Shirley couldn't help but laugh. "Seems like having too many admirers isn't always a good thing, huh?"
Lillian smiled helplessly and reached out to Shirley. "You’re laughing now, but I signaled to you multiple times for help! Hurry, I need to go to the bathroom!"
Seeing Lillian's urgency, Shirley helped her up and chuckled. "Did you miscalculate? Maybe you should've gone back with Flora. At least you wouldn't be caught in the middle. Honestly, between Ambrose and Barry, I think Ambrose is more suitable."
The Kelly family clearly liked Lillian more, and since Ambrose wasn't really a Kelly, there wouldn't be a mother-in-law like Daisy.
Moving to Seaspring Valley City with Ambrose would be a good way to leave behind the painful memories of Miracalia.
Barry was different. The Hall Family might not be as prestigious as the Frane Family, but they were still wealthy.
When the Hall Family proposed marriage to the Frane Family, Barry was actually paralyzed in both legs.
Amy didn't even inform Lillian before showing up, leaving Lillian no chance to refuse.
Maybe Amy thought Lillian was lucky to marry a paralyzed Barry. Now that Barry had recovered, who knew what Amy was thinking.
If Lilian had actually married into the Hall family, she might have encountered another Daisy.
Lillian waved her hand, smiling bitterly.
Her wounds hadn't even healed yet; how could she think about such things?
Luckily, the hospital was strict, and the nurse came to remind them. Otherwise, she wouldn't have been able to handle it.
What she didn't know was that in the next room, Harry, hearing footsteps in the hallway, turned around, relieved.
"Mr. Frane, they've left," Harry said.
"I have ears," Jackson said coldly, putting down the documents he had been holding all evening and lying down to rest.
Harry was helpless.
'You can hear them, but you keep asking,' Harry thought to himself as his phone buzzed. He looked down and saw a video message from one of his subordinates.
Harry clicked on it and immediately heard a familiar woman's scream—Star.
The video showed a club setting, with Star being pinned to the ground by two servants. A nearly 220-pound woman, dressed like a wealthy lady, was cursing and kicking her.
Harry glanced at it and then looked up. "Mr. Frane, we've got news about Star. Do you want to see the results yourself?"
Jackson, already lying down, didn't even look up, seemingly uninterested, and said coldly, "The club is close to Frane Hospital. She'll probably seek treatment there. Inform them that Frane Hospital will no longer accept any patients from the Price family."
