Chapter 584
Jackson's brow furrowed a bit, and his lips got all tight.
"Jackson? You even listening?"
Star didn't hear a peep from him and started freaking out; there was some noise like something got knocked over on the phone.
Jackson's voice came through, deep and serious, "How did Wendy fall? Is the doc there yet?"
"Doc's probably on the way."
"The doc will handle it..."
Jackson flipped a page of his document and signed it, but Star cut in, crying.
"Jackson, my dad's been really sick lately. He just fell asleep after an infusion, and the meds knocked him out, so I can't wake him. Otherwise, I wouldn't have bugged you."
Jackson tapped his pen on the desk, his voice icy, "Star, what Wendy did before, like wrecking my wedding, is unforgivable. You and Susan begged me to keep that kid. I've been more than generous to the Price family, even letting Lillian get hurt. And how did your mom repay me?"
He had kept the Price family's kid, but Susan had sent people to hunt down and kill Lillian.
Jackson's voice was cold and deep, full of hate.
Star seemed scared by his harsh tone, letting out a loud thud.
"Ms. Price, are you okay? You still have a fever."
The servant's voice came through, followed by the sound of the phone being picked up, and Star's pleading voice was clear again.
"But my mom paid with her life, Jackson. The baby Wendy's carrying is Henry's only bloodline left in this world! You were the last person Henry saw before he died. Henry died looking for me, but without your call, he wouldn't have died! We both caused his death. Now his kid is about to be born, Jackson, even if it's to make up for it, you gotta do this with me!"
Star's voice pierced through the phone, full of stubbornness and agitation.
Jackson suddenly gripped the phone tight, remembering Henry's eyes as he passed away.
Those eyes still wanted to live. Henry wasn't even thirty and should've had a great life ahead.
Jackson had once promised to take care of his kid.
"I'm really scared. What if the baby can't be born? The baby's already underdeveloped and premature."
Star's panicked voice continued. Jackson closed his eyes, and when he opened them again, his voice was dry and tense.
"Star, once this kid is born, you should go abroad ASAP."
Star's panicked voice abruptly stopped.
She had agreed to go abroad before, but she had been hospitalized due to burns these past few days.
Probably because she got burned while saving Lillian, Jackson had visited her several times and saw that she was indeed running a fever repeatedly, so he hadn't brought up going abroad again.
Star had been secretly pleased, thinking her plan had succeeded and that Jackson no longer intended to force her to leave.
But now he was urging her to go abroad again.
Star bit her lip, swallowed her sobs, and responded, "Okay, once the baby is born safely, my dad will have some comfort, and with a baby to keep him company, I can leave here with peace of mind."
Jackson breathed a sigh of relief, then pushed back his chair and stood up.
"You should head straight to Nimbus City."
Jackson grabbed his hanging suit jacket and walked out.
When he reached the parking lot, Eulalia's call came in. Jackson immediately answered, asking about Lillian's condition.
"Mrs. Frane's foot swelling has improved a lot. This afternoon, she even went to see Mrs. Flora Kelly and then met with Mrs. Lyra Frane. They walked around the park for quite a while, so she might be a bit tired. She just fell asleep in the living room while watching TV. Should I wake Mrs. Frane?"
Eulalia's voice was low, afraid of waking Lillian.
Jackson instinctively lowered his voice too. "Don't wake her. Let her sleep in the living room. Just cover her with a blanket."
"She's covered."
